Reborn as a Mechanist with a God-Tier System-Chapter 253: Class Promotion [2]
"..."
Leon blinked. ’Is this the dilemma of choosing a Class Specialization?’
One thing he realized immediately was that the ADE manifestation didn’t show him detailed explanations of the 3 Class Specializations, it just told him the information in a bland and unbiased manner.
This meant the interpretation was up to his own intelligence.
It was up to him to look at the 3 Class Specializations, analyze their abilities and enhancements, and decide which one was best for him and his style.
Leon’s brain whirred. ’What made Ren Nora choose the more obscure Code Phantom Class Specialization during his D Rank Promotion instead of the more popular Mindbreaker Class Specialization?’
From the beginning in Leviathan Quay when he finally learned about Class Specializations, Leon already began noticing a trend since then that he called Specialization bias.
Of the 5 Ascended Classes in Neo-Tokara, Ascended tended to favor certain Class Specializations more than others.
These Class Specializations were like the face of every Class.
For example, the Gene Augur Class which was the first Class that actually introduced him to the concept of Class Specializations all the way back in Community G in the Wastes.
Fighting Parasite with his D Rank Artifact was still one of the most harrowing combat experiences in Leon’s memory mostly due to how weak he was then as an F Rank Mechanist.
Parasite introduced Rose Bishop as a D Rank Artifact of the Bioforger Specialization.
Then, Leon didn’t understand what Bioforger meant but now he knew.
He also knew that the Bioforger Specialization was the least popular and favored Specialization among Gene Augurs who managed to Ascend to D Rank.
Most D Rank Gene Augurs prefer either the Mutator Specialization that enables them to mutate combat limbs, claws, and even acid glands, or the Beastframe Specialization that enable them to merge animal and human traits in powerful Beastframe forms.
Compared to the Bioforger Specialization of the Gene Augur Class, the other 2 Class Specializations represented dominance, power, and mutation.
And to most Gene Augurs, these traits were everything they needed.
Leon’s greatest impression of the Beastframe Specialization was Major Lawrence of the rebel army and Major Agakin of Leviathan Quay.
Both were powerful and acclaimed Gene Augurs of the Beastframe Specialization.
As for the Mutator Specialization, Leon had an impression of it through Major Roshfield and Colonel Bam-Bam of the Gene Army in Leviathan Quay.
He still couldn’t forget the Colonel’s ultimate Mutation- King of Skull Island.
But that’s the thing. Till today, besides Parasite’s D Rank Artifact, Leon had never met a D Rank Gene Augur of the Bioforger Specialization.
His guess was that this was because compared to the first 2 Specializations, Bioforgers are more of a support type Class Specialization.
And in the world of Neo-Tokara, no Ascended wanted to be support, everyone wanted to be the main man.
Compared to their other counterparts in other Specializations, Bioforgers are less strong physically but they have the ability to create and grow organic weapons, and to even create symbiotic bio-drones.
To most Gene Augurs, this was weak but to a Mechanist who was used to thinking outside the box like Leon, this was actually the greatest Gene Augur Specialization at D Rank.
After all, from all that he read in the Freegrid Collective’s records through Ren Nora, Leon knew that Beastframe Gene Augurs and even Mutators have limits to their signature abilities.
The same rule applies for Bioforgers, but unlike the first 2 Specializations, Bioforgers have the important factor of versatility.
To Leon, this was the most important element.
When given preparation time, Leon believed that a Bioforger could kill any Gene Augur of the two other Specializations by creating the right bio-constructs.
They may be less strong physically, but Bioforgers have the versatile ability to be useful and dangerous in any given terrain and battlefield. It was harder to counter their abilities than other Specializations.
This same misconception or misjudgment also applied for the other Classes.
Among NetRunners, majority of the D Rank NetRunners that Leon have met choose mostly the Mindbreaker Specialization due to their clear offensive and psionic abilities and the ability to create hallucinations.
In comparison, the abilities of a Code Phantom NetRunner seem a bit underwhelming offensively and yet, Ren Nora already proved that a Code Phantom could become the greatest D Rank NetRunner in the world.
The unique ability catalogue of a D Rank Code Phantom NetRunner made them by far the most mobile Ascended at D Rank.
For example, if Major Kai was a Code Phantom and not a Mindbreaker, no matter how more powerful the General was, General Murphy would have never been able to corner him so thoroughly with Purgatory active.
And also, during the past 13 days of the war, Major Ceres of the Federation Army proved the importance of the least favored Cyber Saint Specialization.
The abilities of a Cyber Saint made Leon think back on Talia’s Trial.
Then, she was required to join a team of cybersecurity experts to protect a hidden military base of the Synth Order during a war for 60 hours till reinforcement comes.
If that military base had a single Cyber Saint, he/she would have singlehandedly increased the survival chances of every soldier in that military base by at least 80% because the cyber defense would have been rock solid.
The abilities of a Cyber Saint also made Leon think of the unforgettable invasion of Leviathan Quay.
If the Geneforge City didn’t just have high-ranking Gene Augurs and they actually had a single Cyber Saint, the D Rank Code Phantom NetRunner of the Federation Army would have never been able to infiltrate silently into a Megabase without being detected.
And if she was unable to infiltrate, the sabotage that resulted in the city shield’s destruction prematurely would have never happened.
And if the city shield wasn’t sabotaged, keeping it intact, the beast tide would have never had the opportunity to infiltrate and deal so much damage to the city.
The rest of the invading forces would have never been able to infiltrate too.
At the very least, with the existence of a single Cyber Saint, Leviathan Quay would have resisted and lasted long enough with the upper hand during the invasion till reinforcements arrived from the other Geneforge cities.
All this showed that every single Class Specialization had its use depending on your style.
Leon had no intention of jumping on the Specialization bias train, he would rather take his time to think and break down the 3 Class Specializations.
He could not judge this about Quantum Shapers since he’d only met 1 D Rank Quantum Shaper so far.
As for Cyber Gladiators, Leon believed they were the only Class where this dilemma and bias of Class Specializations wasn’t as predominant simply because all 3 Class Specializations of D Rank Cyber Gladiators are combat-oriented.
All of this knowledge was why Leon didn’t rush to decide on his Class Specialization.
If he jumped on the Specialization bias train, Leon would have chosen the Cannon Master Class Specialization immediately because it looked like the coolest and strongest Specialization of the 3.
But he didn’t rush.
Instead, he took his time to analyze every single Class Specialization, their corresponding abilities, and their accompanying blueprints.
