Reborn As A Ghost: Time To Build My Undead Army!-Chapter 1350: Abandoned City
-----
The Snowdragon flew through the skies, rapidly approaching the abandoned ruined city. The sky above the city seemed to be slowly clearing, there were very few clouds, and the sun was strong in here, making the place feel a bit arid, and indeed, it quite was, as they noticed a desert in the distance past the city. It seemed that whatever this Nightmare Realm was, it had manifested as a huge landscape with several different-looking sections.
"it's really a big city!" Alma said. "B-But it's ruined? Why…"
"I don't know, well, this is a Nightmare Realm, our nightmares turn into reality," Nyx explained. "Someone that's here has been dreaming about a big city… and in the Nightmare Realm, this city was twisted."
"T-Twisted?" Alma muttered, trembling a bit. "Will there be evil stumps?"
"S-Stumps?" wondered Francis. "What do you mean?"
"Evil trees!" Alma cried.
"N-No? I don't know… I hope not!" said Nyx. "Calm down, even if there are, I'm here and I'll save everyone."
"You will, Nyx?" Alma wondered. "Are you strong?"
"I am!" Nyx nodded.
"She can turn into a giant dragon! Isn't that awesome?" Asked Francis.
"She can?! No way!" Alma said. "Really? For real?"
"Yep!" nodded Nyx. "Anyway, let's go down! Snowdragon mama, please!"
"Raaarrr!"
The Snowdragon seemed happy to be called "mama", as it descended quickly after reaching the floor.
The ground was like that of a modern city, slightly paved, but mostly cracked and broken down, eaten away by time, there was a lot of dirt and grass growing from every crack.
There were also large trees everywhere, growing from the cracked paved floor, and also from every building they could find, which were also ruinous looking, covered with green moss.
Despite how it looked so dreadful, the city also evoked a strange feeling on the girls, something that was both nostalgic and depressing.
A civilization that had once progressed and prospered, they could see through the streets, as they walked, the phantoms of people walking.
The giggles of children playing, of busy cars moving around, of people talking, laughing, buying, and running to their jobs.
It was indeed a very busy and big city.
These things weren't there anymore, only imagined by the girls' own minds, as they recalled memories of the cities they'd seen or where they had lived.
"This place is completely abandoned…" Fran said. "Is it just me or… it's kind of weird? Like… sad… but also nostalgic? I don't know…"
"Yeah… I feel something similar," Alma nodded. "Hm…"
"I have only seen big human cities like these just this week so… I am not that nostalgic…" Nyx looked around. "But I can tell it was once a nice place…"
As they walked around, enjoying the view and relaxing, Alma slowly calmed down, looking around, realizing she was having a very fantastical adventure.
She was still processing what had happened to her, or her grandmother, but she knew this wasn't normal, this world and everything…
She was a child, so it was very hard for her to understand some very complex things sometimes.
But she was trying, a bit…
"Um, Nyx? Fran? I… I wanted to say that I'm sorry…" Alma muttered.
"Huh? Why?"
"What happened?"
The two girls glanced at her, as Alma fidgeted with her fluffy pink hair a bit, sighing.
"I was kind of afraid, and I said rude things, maybe… I-I didn't intend to be rude or mean… I'm sorry…" Alma sighed. "You seem like… g-good people…"
"You don't need to apologize, it's ok," Fran nodded. "I was also like you when Nyx found me a couple of hours ago… but I've calmed down a bit! It's hard to even.. comprehend what's going on, right? Whew… not even I am so sure if what Nyx's saying is the truth completely… it's so hard to believe."
"Yeah, right?" Alma nodded, smiling lightly. "But Nyx seems so honest about it… I-I want to trust her… well, nobody has been genuinely friendly with me before, so I don't want to fumble this… um, this opportunity I mean."
"Opportunity?" Nyx asked.
"To be… Um, friends? No? Sorry, it was dumb…" Alma muttered, looking elsewhere. "Never mind it…"
Nyx and Fran looked at one another and giggled, patting Alma's shoulders.
"Yeah, sure!" Fran nodded. "I also didn't really have any friends… so I'm glad you wanted to be my friend too, Alma."
"R-Really?" Alma muttered, blushing a bit. "Thank you… Um, it's awkward I guess."
"I was already planning to make you my friend, so this doesn't change much!" Nyx also said. "Let's become friends forever, okay? It makes me feel bad that there are people out there that never had friends when they were kids… So I will become everyone's friend if needed! And I'll always be there for them! And I'll help too! And do everything I can!"
Nyx felt some sort of responsibility within her little brave heart, these children in front of her that suffered through their childhoods, compared to her own, made her feel really sad.
She wanted them to also be happy like her, to smile, and love their childhood like she did… So she was going to become the friend they never had and try to make them as happy as possible.
"N-Nyx…" Alma giggled. "Heheh, you're too energetic…"
"Yeah she's a bit crazy," nodded Fran.
"I-I'm not crazy! I'm saying the truth!" Nyx pouted again, her cute tail wagging around angrily.
"I believe you!" Alma smiled. "Thanks for being so nice! I-It truly feels like I'm dreaming… Maybe it's still a dream at the end? A dream where I finally make friends… it's nice. A dream I wouldn't really want to wake up from."
"It feels the same to me…" Fran nodded. "Even more with all these fantastical things…"
"I already said it wasn't a dream, geez!" said Nyx, crossing her arms. "Anyway, I can feel the presence nearby, so let's hurry, friends!"
"Yeah!" Alma nodded. "B-But I can't do much if a monster shows up though… Do I hide?"
"The Snowdragon will protect you," said Nyx. "I can also summon these guys!"
FLUOSH!
Several Phantom Dragons emerged, making Alma gasp.
"They'll be there for you, don't worry."
"A-Ah… geez, thanks… They're a tiny bit scary though…"
"Don't worry, they're all good friends too!"
