Chapter 182: It’s clearly not good for me.

Meanwhile, Anna woke up alone in bed with no sign of Daniel anywhere.

For a moment, she blinked at the empty space beside her, then stretched lazily under the covers. A small part of her was relieved. The other part? Still a little curious.

How does that man even wake up this early? she thought, frowning slightly. He’s usually the one refusing to move in the morning... especially after—

Her lips curved into a wicked grin. Not after I gave him blue balls.

With that thought, she slipped out of bed, humming to herself as she headed for the bathroom.

It was the weekend, which meant no shooting schedule, no camera lights, and no endless retakes. Her part of the film was almost complete anyway — the rest would continue with the remaining cast.

So, for once, she had the entire day to herself.

Mariam wasn’t around that morning, but the rest of the staff took good care of her. By the time Anna came downstairs, she was greeted with the warm, sweet scent of breakfast.

A full plate of golden pancakes waited on the table, stacked high and drizzled with syrup — her favorite. She remembered mentioning it to Mariam once, casually, and couldn’t help but smile at the thoughtfulness.

"Perfect," she murmured before diving in, savoring every bite until she was full and satisfied.

But even as she enjoyed her quiet morning, her thoughts began to drift — uninvited — back to him.

Daniel.

She sighed, pushing her plate away and tapping her fingers on the table."Why do I suddenly... want to see him?" she muttered under her breath, then immediately shook her head. "No, absolutely not."

After what she’d done to him last night, the last thing she expected was to be thinking about his infuriatingly handsome face. He deserved it, she reminded herself. Every bit of it.

Still... there was something she couldn’t quite shake.

Her mind wandered back to their last conversation, the one about DarkKnight_07. An online fan who’d messaged her, wanting to be friends. She had told Daniel about it, half-expecting a reaction.

But instead... nothing. Just silence.

She frowned, leaning back in her chair. "Wasn’t he jealous at all?" she whispered, puzzled. "Or... did I miss something?"

Her thoughts were still racing when a voice broke through her trance.

"Madam, your friend is here."

Anna blinked, lifting her head toward the maid standing by the door. After a brief pause, a smile spread across her face.

She had decided to invite Betty over since the house was unusually quiet that morning. No shooting, no phone calls, no drama — just her thoughts for company, and she needed a distraction.

Betty wasn’t just her assistant anymore; she had grown close like a younger sister. Usually, Anna’s driver picked her up for shoots, but this time, she wanted some proper girl time.

"Send her in," Anna said, straightening in her seat.

"Big Sis, you’re so rich!" Betty gasped the moment she stepped inside, her wide eyes sweeping across the enormous mansion.

The high ceilings, the chandeliers, the endless marble floors — everything looked straight out of a movie.

She had only ever seen such houses on screen or in magazines. Standing in one felt like a dream.

"Not me," Anna corrected with a small, teasing smile. "It’s my husband’s house."

Betty chuckled, following Anna into the living room.

"Come, have a seat," Anna said, gesturing toward the couch before sitting beside her. "Do you want pancakes? I just had some they’re amazing."

Betty shook her head quickly, a shy smile tugging at her lips.

"I already had breakfast with Shawn before you called me," she said.

Anna raised an eyebrow, her tone playful. "Shawn? Just when did your brother Shawn get demoted to simply ’Shawn’?"

Betty froze, her cheeks turning crimson. She looked down, fidgeting with her fingers as she tried to hide her blush.

"He... he doesn’t like me calling him that," she murmured softly. "And I get it. He isn’t really my brother, after all."

Anna’s brow lifted higher, curiosity sparking in her eyes. There was something different about Betty, something she hadn’t noticed before.

Betty, on the other hand, seemed lost in her own world. Just the mention of Shawn’s name was enough to send her heart racing.

She could still remember that night — the one she’d tried so hard to forget.

It had been after she passed her entrance exam. Feeling on top of the world, she’d decided to celebrate... with Shawn. And since it was her first time drinking, she hadn’t realized how quickly the alcohol would hit her.

One thing led to another, and before she knew it she’d kissed him.

Her brother, or rather, the man she’d always called her brother.

She thought it had been a mistake — a drunken blur they’d both ignore the next morning. But fate clearly had other plans.

The second time she got drunk, it was with Anna — and that time, she’d confessed. Out loud.

And after that... things between her and Shawn changed completely.

He wasn’t cold anymore. He wasn’t distant. In fact, he looked at her differently like she wasn’t a kid anymore, but someone he couldn’t quite stop thinking about.

Betty’s blush deepened just remembering it.

I really should stop drinking, she thought with a groan. It’s clearly not good for me.

Anna, meanwhile, watched her friend’s bashful expression and smirked knowingly. Whatever was going on between Betty and Shawn, it was definitely getting interesting. 𝙛𝒓𝓮𝙚𝔀𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝒐𝒎

"Anyway," Anna said after a moment, leaning back against the couch. "There’s something I need to know."

Her tone shifted light, but edged with intent. It was enough to pull Betty out of her flustered haze.

Anna’s gaze locked onto her, serious now. Despite them managing to expose Kevin as one of Daniel’s secret informers who also conveniently doubled as a manager — something about the whole thing still didn’t sit right with her. There were too many loose ends.

Betty seemed to realize exactly what she was referring to. Her expression straightened, and she gave a small nod.

"Oh, about that," Betty said quickly, lowering her voice a little. "I already talked with Shawn. He said he’ll get back to you soon."

And that was how long had Daniel been searching for Kathrine, and why had he never once questioned her about secretly asking Shawn to help find her sister?
