Rebirth: Revenge of the abandoned heirress-Chapter 43: Terified friend
Chapter 43 - Terified friend
That afternoon, Frank brought Jazmine Harrison to a nearby restaurant.
"You look upset," he observed, swirling his wine glass.
"It's nothing," Jazmine replied absently, her mind still tangled in thoughts of those two mysterious groups from Hong Kong.
Frank raised an eyebrow. "Why did you bring me here? You could have just sent that invitation to Fashion Week through my secretary."
"Why would I miss a chance to take my darling to dinner?"
Jazmine shot him a sharp glare. "You're back at it again? Was the previous beating not enough?"
Unbothered, she picked up a piece of sweet and sour chicken, placing it neatly into her mouth.
Frank smirked. "I have a favour to ask."
"If my little flower wants me to—"
"You seriously forgot your last beating."
Jazmine's tone dropped several degrees, her gaze turning frigid.
A shiver ran down Frank's spine. He sank into his chair like a frightened kitten, visibly wilting under her stare.
"Better," Jazmine commented, satisfied.
Then, in a calm, matter-of-fact tone, she continued, "My father wants to meet you."
Frank's easy-going demeanour immediately vanished. His expression sobered as he straightened in his seat. "And... do you want me to meet him?"
Jazmine's lips curled. "I do. But I won't stop you from offending him if you feel like it."
Frank's gaze flickered with mischief. "Got it."
His tone was smooth, but there was a wicked gleam in his eyes.
As dinner continued, the conversation drifted to recent happenings in their lives.
However, Frank's unease slowly became obvious.
His fingers twitched slightly against the table. His lips parted a few times, like he wanted to say something but couldn't quite get the words out.
Poor kid.
Had she scared him too much?
Jazmine finally sighed and set her fork down.
"Spit it out," she ordered. "What is it?"
Frank hesitated for only a second before inhaling deeply and blurting it out in one breath, as if he needed to muster all his courage to say it.
"Your marriage with David Anderson."
The air around them shifted.
Jazmine's fingers stilled against her glass.
Frank immediately cringed, his chair edging backwards as if preparing for his imminent execution.
Seriously?
Did he think she was some kind of tyrant?
She hadn't threatened to kill him—well... maybe once. Or twice. Maybe more than a few times.
But he wouldn't be stupid enough to believe she'd actually do it... right?
"Go on," Jazmine said, her voice eerily calm.
Frank swallowed. "Ever since you told us David went to Vietnam, I've been... worried."
His tone was dead serious.
"I know you don't like people interfering in your personal matters, but I won't stop pressing you. Even if you beat me to death."
Jazmine arched an eyebrow.
That was bold of him.
"And what do you want to know?" she asked, surprisingly submissive.
There was no point hiding it forever.
But how had he guessed?
She had been so careful. Had she slipped?
Was she that easy to read?
"Are you... happy?"
His voice was gentle, but there was an edge of urgency to it.
The sincerity in his gaze made it impossible for Jazmine to be mad at him.
For the first time, she let her guard down.
She told him everything.
How David intended to ruin her company.
How she had been countering his plans.
Frank was stunned.
A long silence settled between them.
Then, finally, he spoke.
"Have you told your grandfather?"
"No."
"Why the hell not? You should divorce him immediately."
"That's exactly why I haven't told him," Jazmine countered.
"If I divorce him, David will know that I'm onto him. Then he'll drop all pretenses and come at us openly."
"With the Anderson family's influence, we can't fight him yet."
Frank gritted his teeth.
"Why the hell would he even do this to you?"
"I wish I knew."
She really wished she had known in her past life.
But David never gave her an answer.
And this time, she didn't care.
If he hated her, so be it.
But if he dared to come for her or her people, she wouldn't just sit and watch.
Frank exhaled, rubbing his temples.
"Is there anything I can do to help?"
Jazmine shook her head. "Your father may be rich, but he can't rival David. The Andersons are on top. I don't want to drag you into this mess."
"How can you just shrug this off?!"
"You loved him your entire life, didn't you?"
Jazmine tilted her head. "Then... would you prefer if I was crying?"
"At least show some grief! Your indifference is giving me creeps!"
She smiled and lifted her glass.
"Look into my eyes," she teased. "Tell me—what do you see?"
Frank stared.
"I—I see coldness. No... it's calmness before a storm."
Jazmine's smile widened.
"I see something sharp... hate? No... something darker. Wait, is it..."
His breath hitched.
"Vengeance?"
Jazmine burst out laughing.
"Would you stop being dramatic?"
After dinner, as they walked out of the restaurant, Jazmine turned to him.
"Are you going to tell Amelia?"
"Of course," Frank grinned. "She's going to be thrilled."
"Thrilled?"
"She hated David," he snorted. "She curses him behind your back all the time. And don't you remember? She once planned to feed his d*ck to her dog."
Jazmine sighed. "That sounds like her."
She barely took another step before she bumped into someone.
"Sorry," she muttered, bending down to pick up the woman's handbag.
It wasn't her fault—the woman had suddenly stopped in her tracks.
But the moment Jazmine looked up, her expression darkened.
Caroline Anderson.
A smug smirk spread across Caroline's lips.
"Could my cousin not keep you satisfied?" she sneered. "That you're already hunting for new men?"
Laughter erupted from the group of women behind her.
"How shameless."
"She can't even wait a month after her wedding?"
"Poor David," one mocked. "To have a wife like her."
Frank's face twitched.
He was ready to snap—but Jazmine raised her hand, stopping him.
Her eyes gleamed with amusement.
"Sister Caroline," she said sweetly, holding out the purse.
Caroline smirked.
But the moment she reached for it—
Jazmine let go.

The purse hit the ground.
The contents spilled across the pavement.
Caroline's iPhone landed screen-first, shattering instantly.
Her face twisted in fury.
Jazmine smiled.
Checkmate.
