Rebirth: Regaining Joyful Moments-Chapter 1130 - 1132: Playing Chess
"Uncle asked me to wait another two years. I think that’s fine too. We can get married directly then, skipping the engagement part," Pei Yicheng said while peeling shrimp.
Xu Nianhua: "..."
Brother Yicheng, aren’t you dreaming too beautifully?
Will her parents really let him skip the engagement and go straight to marriage?
...
"I ate way too much." Xu Nianhua touched her round belly, feeling like she’d stuffed herself today!
"Then let’s walk it off inside."
Pei Yicheng parked the car by the roadside and went for a walk with Xu Nianhua. 𝒇𝒓𝒆𝒆𝙬𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝒎
"Nianhua, didn’t you promise me something and forget to give it to me?" Pei Yicheng asked as he escorted her to the door, the streetlight casting a shadow over his eyelids.
"What?"
Xu Nianhua replied blankly, trying hard to remember, but really couldn’t recall what she had forgotten.
Pei Yicheng handed her the book.
Xu Nianhua instantly remembered and said, "The book, the signed book is kept for you."
"Wait a moment."
Xu Nianhua hugged the book and went inside. Jiang Wanru watched her run upstairs for a while and then come back out with another book, knowing this book was for Pei Yicheng.
"What do you think, should we invite him in to sit for a bit?" Jiang Wanru craned her neck to look outside. In the moonlight, Pei Yicheng and Xu Nianhua stood facing each other, presenting a truly beautiful scene: the man handsome and spirited, the woman fair as a flower.
"No invite," Su Jinrong said with pursed lips, with a hint of annoyance. Seeing Pei Yicheng, he felt like his family’s treasure was about to be taken away.
The yard.
"I’ve kept the signed book for you long ago." Xu Nianhua stuffed the book into his hand, holding onto it and instructed, "Read it when you get back."
Looking at her flushed cheeks, Pei Yicheng didn’t refuse, hugged the book to his chest, and said, "Okay."
"Then go home and rest early. Drive slowly and be careful on the road," Xu Nianhua advised, reminding him.
Pei Yicheng glanced towards the house and asked, "Should I go inside and greet Uncle and Aunt?"
"You’ve had a long day. It’s fine to say hello next time," Xu Nianhua thought for a moment and pulled Pei Yicheng into the house.
"Yicheng is here?" Jiang Wanru, seeing them coming inside, greeted warmly, "Yicheng, come in for a cup of tea and some fruit."
"Hello, Aunt, hello, Uncle," Pei Yicheng greeted.
Seeing the book Pei Yicheng held, Su Jinrong said, "Yicheng, it’s still early. How about a game of chess?"
Xu Nianhua was about to say that Pei Yicheng had just returned from a business trip and needed rest, but Pei Yicheng had already agreed.
Soon, the chessboard was set up with Su Jinrong and Pei Yicheng seated opposite each other.
Xu Nianhua served tea and presented fruit, chatting with Jiang Wanru while watching the two play chess.
Xu Qinghe loved to play chess, and Xu Nianhua knew a little bit; mostly just the rules of knights moving in "L" shapes, bishops diagonally, rooks on straight lines, and cannons jumping. As for the rest, she was just as clueless.
Which of the two was better at chess, Xu Nianhua didn’t know either. After watching for a while, she found it boring. As they finished one game and started another, she couldn’t help but say, "Dad, don’t you always say you should sleep early and get up early?"
"Nianhua, if you’re tired, go upstairs to sleep. I’ll play a few more games." Although Su Jinrong won a game, he suspected Pei Yicheng was letting him win.
"It’s fine, you go upstairs first. If it gets too late, let Yicheng stay at home, there are plenty of rooms," Jiang Wanru said. She understood Su Jinrong’s personality; once he started playing chess, there was no stopping him.
