Rebirth: Regaining Joyful Moments-Chapter 1129 - 1131: Skipping the Engagement
"Do you have time for an internship?" Xu Nianhua frowned, looking at Xu Nian’an, "Second brother, earning money is important, but your studies are even more important right now. We can’t afford to lose sight of the bigger picture."
"Don’t worry, I won’t let it affect my studies."
Xu Nian’an reassured her repeatedly, reminding her not to overwork herself, before getting in the car and heading back to school.
Days flowed like water; the June weather was intensely hot.
"Yicheng, is that you back?" Xu Nianhua stepped out of the school, spotting a familiar Jeep. She thought she might be seeing things.
But who else could be standing next to the Jeep if not Pei Yicheng?
In a beige casual outfit, with hands tucked into his pockets, he looked just like the boy-next-door.
"Nianhua, I’m heading home first." Su Xi proactively let go of her hand, saying, "I’ll inform your parents as well."
She knew Pei Yicheng had been on a business trip, already gone for nearly a month. When these two met, how could they not have a meal together?
"Thanks." Xu Nianhua waved to Su Xi, walking towards Pei Yicheng with a light step. She hadn’t noticed the tenderness in her eyes, too busy every day to miss him. But now, seeing Pei Yicheng, she realized it wasn’t that she hadn’t missed him; she had just hidden all her longing away.
"Yicheng, when did you get back?"
Xu Nianhua looked at him with sparkling eyes.
"Just came back." Pei Yicheng tousled her hair, looking at her indulgently, "I’ll take you to have something tasty today."
"You’ve messed up my hair." Xu Nianhua grabbed at her hair. With Pei Yicheng ruffling it, her ponytail almost came undone.
"Then let it down; it’ll look nice." Pei Yicheng earnestly appraised, really tempted to remove her hair tie.
Xu Nianhua quickly moved away, opened the car door, and got in neatly, with her hands on the window, her big eyes asking, "Yicheng, what delicious food are you taking me to eat today?"
"Your beloved seafood feast."
Pei Yicheng’s words made Xu Nianhua’s smile even brighter. She loved seafood, especially shrimp, her absolute favorite.
When they reached the restaurant and were waiting for the food, Xu Nianhua found out Pei Yicheng had just returned by car and hadn’t even been home yet.
"Yicheng, how about we eat early and go home early to rest?" Xu Nianhua was worried he couldn’t physically handle it, having traveled such a long way and not having slept the night before.
"Don’t you want to see me?" Pei Yicheng raised an eyebrow.
Xu Nianhua blinked her eyes, saying, "But I’m more concerned about your health."
Pei Yicheng gave her a meaningful look, saying, "Don’t worry, my health is perfectly fine."
The food was served.
All sorts of seafood, not a single dish that Xu Nianhua didn’t love.
As they chatted, the conversation naturally shifted to the topic of engagement. Xu Nianhua looked at him suspiciously and asked, "Yicheng, you’re not the type who gets easily persuaded, are you?"
Pei Yicheng was the sort of person who, once he set his mind on something, would see it through, just like the wholesale market he had mentioned. At first, Xu Nianhua thought Pei Yicheng was just talking, but now he even had the design drafts ready and had found investors, which made her admire him greatly.
To build a wholesale market, how much investment would that take? She had no idea how Yicheng managed to convince them.
"Uncle and Auntie are your own parents; how could I not listen to them?" Pei Yicheng’s words were respectful, but Xu Nianhua felt there was more to it.
Sure enough, Pei Yicheng’s next words made Xu Nianhua understand why he chose to compromise at this time.
