Rebirth: I Am Not the Movie Queen This Time-Chapter 612 - 610: Imprisonment
After the servant saw the two of them come down, they went to the kitchen to get them some food. The meal was quite sumptuous, but it was just the two of them throughout; Housekeeper Jacob never appeared.
Wan Chuchu and Ming Wan didn’t mention him, focusing solely on enjoying the food. Wan Chuchu even discussed the gold-rimmed tableware they were using with Ming Wan in Chinese, expressing disdain. 𝗳𝗿𝐞𝕖𝘄𝗲𝕓𝗻𝚘𝚟𝕖𝐥.𝚌𝕠𝕞
After the meal, Wan Chuchu suggested they take a walk around the castle. Since they were already staying there, it was the perfect opportunity to appreciate this century-old castle. Actually, she wanted to take this chance to observe the castle’s internal structure.
Ming Wan agreed readily without much thought.
It had to be said that this castle indeed matched the mafia’s boss’s lair; the interior was incredibly luxurious. The corridor was entirely carved with golden wood, very grand, as if walking on a golden avenue.
"The murals here have a very Renaissance style, so exquisite," Ming Wan remarked while carefully observing the dome’s decorations.
Wan Chuchu agreed, "Yes, such remarkable architecture. Is this castle inherited by the Andrew family, or did they buy it after they made their fortune?"
Ming Wan smiled but didn’t directly answer her question, saying, "There are many such castles in Europe, reportedly more than twenty thousand in a single country of D alone."
Wan Chuchu made a knowing gesture and said "Oh."
When the two of them walked into the library on the first floor, they ran into Housekeeper Jacob. Ming Wan nodded at him calmly.
Jacob smiled and said, "Some areas in the castle are currently under renovation, which is somewhat dangerous. If the two misses are bored, why not take a walk outside in the garden? The scenery is actually prettier there than the place you strolled this morning."
He was stopping them from wandering further in the castle. Looks like there are secrets in the castle, secrets they don’t want the two of them to know.
Wan Chuchu noticed his final words; it seemed their every move in the morning was being monitored. Wan Chuchu recalled finding a surveillance device in Ming Wan’s room yesterday; clearly, the people here have bad intentions from the start.
Being rejected like this, Ming Wan appeared gentle but has a strong sense of pride, unable to tolerate this. She said lightly, "I’m tired," and then turned around and headed back to her room straight.
Wan Chuchu followed her inside, comforting her, "Why bother with people like this? We’ll be leaving tomorrow, maybe never seeing them again, so don’t let it get to you."
While speaking, she began searching the room’s items again. Ming Wan was incredulous; had they placed another surveillance device in her room?
Indeed, Wan Chuchu found a more hidden surveillance device under the curtain behind Ming Wan’s bedhead.
Ming Wan angrily swept the pillow off the bed onto the floor, "I can’t stay here for another moment. We need to leave immediately!" she said, as she opened her wardrobe to pack her clothes.
Wan Chuchu stopped her, saying, "Your brother suggested we stay here tonight to avoid retaliation from Lillian if we leave. Tomorrow, after attending the wedding, he’ll send someone to pick us up."
"I want to leave now!" Ming Wan became stubborn, finally showing the temper of someone pampered like a princess.
Wan Chuchu sighed, "The people here also won’t let us leave. If we force our way out, Jacob will just bring people to stop us, and if things get out of hand, we might even be kept locked up. This way, at least we can still move around freely."
Ming Wan retorted sharply, "Freedom? Haha, told to leave after taking a few steps in the castle, monitored while walking outside; where is the freedom?"
Seems she also heard the hidden meaning in Jacob’s words just now, but what’s the use of getting upset like this?
Wan Chuchu said, "Alright, keep your anger for when Andrew comes back, then question him like this, ask him what he means? Ask how he really sees you!"
Ming Wan was amused by her words, finally sitting on the bed in defeat, waving her hand weakly, "I want to think for myself first, you go out."
Wan Chuchu shrugged her shoulders and turned to leave her room.
Looking out from the window, there was a large, neatly manicured lawn nearby, with a big fountain in the middle. Beyond the lawn stretched endless forests, as far as the eye can see.
Roz Manor seemed like an isolated island, surrounded recklessly by monotonous, endless woods.
Ming Wan leaned against the windowsill, feeling like the girl statue in the fountain’s center, trapped here, unable to go anywhere.
Since Wan Chuchu left, Ming Wan stood in front of the windowsill, stubbornly waiting for Andrew to come back and give her an explanation.
Or maybe when Andrew returns, she’ll coldly throw a sentence at him, "I’ve had enough," and leave without looking back.
But she stood until her legs were sore, until they were numb, yet saw no trace of Andrew returning. Instead, just before dinner time, amidst the dim light outside, she saw a flashy red sports car pull up below the castle, with a stylish red-haired woman in it.
As soon as the woman parked the car, many people rushed out to welcome her, even leading the way was Housekeeper Jacob.
Ming Wan’s eyes shifted, wondering who this woman was. Judging by Jacob’s respectful attitude, this woman was probably not someone simple.
She couldn’t help but smile wryly, it seemed Andrew had never told her much about his family; even upon coming here, she hadn’t met a single family member or friend of his, yet suffered insults from his fiancée. She was like a canary, trapped here by Andrew.
Perhaps it was indeed as Wan Chuchu said, Andrew just regarded her as his mistress!
This was her own doing!
Ming Wan touched her face, feeling a bit of moisture. She felt very sad, sad enough to want to cry, but she couldn’t bring herself to do it; this place was a cage trapping her, monitored from the shadows.
Suddenly, she saw outside the castle, the woman and Jacob both looking in her direction; the woman even pointed at her window. Ming Wan instinctively stepped back, as if realizing something, and immediately went to the bathroom to wash her face, carefully applying skincare products again.
A little while later, her door was knocked on. Ming Wan’s back tightened instantly, her face showing a noble and proud expression.
"Come in."
The door opened, and it was Wan Chuchu who entered. Ming Wan sighed in relief, albeit a bit disappointed.
Wan Chuchu said softly, "Andrew’s sister came."
Ming Wan was stunned, asking, "The one who just arrived is his sister?"
"Yes."
Ming Wan’s eyes shifted, not asking Wan Chuchu how she knew it was his sister.
"Why did she come? Isn’t his family staying at another manor? Is she here to mock me too?" Ming Wan’s tone turned sharp.
Wan Chuchu raised her eyebrows slightly and said, "Water will try to contain soil, soldiers will block generals, right? Also, who knows whether Andrew will come back tonight or not."
"What? If he doesn’t come back, what... what are we going to do?" Ming Wan asked in shock.
