Chapter 139: The Overlord’s Dominion (3)

"We’re done for!"

Investigator Sabrina’s voice trembled as she spoke, her eyes locked on the distant battlefield. Even from afar, the pressure was suffocating. She and her leader could barely stand as the monstrous aura spread across the city like a storm.

Their bodies refused to move, instincts screaming at them to flee. But deep inside, they knew there was no escape.

On the other side of the sky, above the trembling streets of Stargaze City, Igaris raised a single hand.

"You chose not to surrender. Now, you will pay the price." His voice was calm, cold, absolute.

The moment the command was given, it was as though the world shifted.

The Towering Mountain King let out a low, thunderous laugh that echoed like an avalanche.

"Ha ha ha! At last! Master has summoned us again! It is time to show him our worth!" the colossal beast bellowed, each step it took shaking the foundations of the city itself. Buildings quivered. Windows shattered. Roads cracked beneath its impossible weight.

Above, wings split the skies as Serynthia, the golden-feathered Semi Dragon, flared her burning wings.

"I have been waiting for this moment," she said with a smirk as flames spiraled around her sleek body. "I will test my new technique on these weaklings."

She swept down like a meteor, flames trailing behind her in a blazing arc. The wind howled in her descent.

Below, a squad of enforcers noticed her too late. They tried to scatter, shouting and scrambling in panic.

"Retreat! Everyone fall back!"

But they never made it.

"Boom!"

The ground erupted in a violent blaze as Serynthia landed with explosive impact. Fire and wind twisted into a devastating vortex, consuming everything nearby. Screams were swallowed by the roar of flames.

When the smoke cleared, nothing remained.

Only scorched earth.

Ashes danced in the wind, and where once stood trained officers, there was only silence and soot.

Igaris and Evernight stepped into the battlefield like the arrival of judgment itself.

Without a word, Igaris shot forward, his body becoming a streak of pure momentum. He descended upon the commander of the law enforcers like a falling meteor.

"Bang!"

His fist connected squarely with the man’s abdomen.

The impact was bone-crushing. The commander flew backward like a ragdoll, crashing through several lamp posts before slamming into a public bus. The vehicle crumpled under the force. Blood sprayed from the commander’s mouth as he slumped, half-conscious, in the wreckage.

Igaris landed gently before him, his presence like a towering mountain.

"Tell them to surrender. Now," he said, voice calm but undeniable in its weight.

Across the battlefield, Evernight moved with silent grace. Her white hair flowed like silk as chains of dark light slithered through the air behind her, summoned from her outstretched fingers.

"Judgment Chains."

The dark bindings coiled like serpents, striking fast. In an instant, the investigative squad was trapped, their movements sealed by a cold, divine force. Their limbs froze, their weapons fell to the ground, and their eyes widened in fear as the chains tightened.

Just then, flames lit the sky.

"Phoenix Descent, Second Movement: Blazing Phoenix."

Shirley arrived with a roar of heat, her body cloaked in a majestic blaze. Her golden hair flowed with the fire as her boots struck the earth like divine wrath.

Her entrance was violent and beautiful.

Blazing essence flared out from her form, melting stone and turning the air crimson. Anyone who dared move toward Igaris found themselves incinerated mid-step. Screams were cut short by heat that devoured armor and flesh alike.

Shirley’s eyes burned with passion, her gaze focused only on the man ahead.

She would not remain a shadow behind Igaris.

She would not be a pampered queen watching from the sidelines.

This was her empire too.

And she would help build it with fire, fang, and fury.

Evernight glanced at Shirley with an amused smile tugging at the corners of her lips. Her expression seemed to say she was watching a young girl eager to prove something to the world. Yet behind those calm, celestial eyes was a quiet approval. She was pleased. Shirley did not carry the fragile mindset of a pampered princess.

She had the fire of a queen ready to rule beside her king.

But what role she should chose? Her heart was still in conflict. But something told her if she didn’t reslove it quick, her role might be snatched away from his life.

As Evernight wondered, the commander before Igaris still refused to yield.

He spat blood to the ground and sneered. "Hmph. You think you can bite a chunk out of the Empire and walk away unharmed? Dream on, brat. These thousands of troops are nothing. The Empire will send more. Stronger. You’ll be crushed like a bug. And we will never surrender to you."

However, Igaris remained calm, his face unreadable, as if the man’s rant was less than the wind.

"Commander," he said slowly, his voice carrying like thunder veiled in silk, "I gave you a choice. You refused it."

His eyes began to glow.

"Now I will do what I wished to avoid."

A platinum light surged from his body, a divine glow neither warm nor cold. It was commanding. Pure. Unyielding.

The air trembled.

The commander’s eyes widened. "W-what are you doing? Stop. Stay back. Don’t come any closer!"

But the light was already inside him.

It slipped past skin and armor. It crept into his nerves, then deeper, until it reached the very core of his being.

The Architect’s Eyes pulsed as Igaris exerted will over the man’s soul. With his innate ability, Infinite Acquisition, Igaris had already seen through the weaknesses of the man’s mind. Now, he reshaped it.

Chains of platinum light, invisible to most, bound the man’s will like threads binding a puppet’s limbs.

Then silence.

And after a moment, a heavy thud.

The commander dropped to all fours, head lowered in reverence. His entire body trembled. Not with fear, but with devotion.

"I see now," he whispered.

His voice grew louder with every word.

"Thank you for showing me the path. I will obey. I will serve. My sword, my soul, my life. They all belong to you. Glory to the Overlord."

Around him, the other officers looked on in horror and awe, unsure of what they had just witnessed. A Legendary Rank officer, broken not with brute force, but with power that touched the soul. novelbuddy-cσ๓
