CEO Ex-Husband, Don't Bother Me-Chapter 149 - 134: What Don’t I Know About You
True, Sean Donovan had helped her get into the Donovan Group in the first place, but she was fully capable of handling her current job. She wasn’t succeeding because of him, so she wouldn’t be quitting.
So when Julian said that, she simply gave him a cool reply. "Thanks, but I’m quite happy with my current job. I don’t want to change."
Julian gritted his teeth in frustration, but there was nothing he could do. He just kept driving in silence.
The car stopped in front of her new apartment building. The moving truck, being slower, hadn’t arrived yet. Naomi Shaw picked up Joy and glanced at Julian, who was about to unbuckle his seatbelt and get out too. "We just moved in today, so it’s going to be a mess. I won’t invite you up. You can take Dylan and go ahead."
’She had finally thought moving to a new place would put her in a good mood, but he’d completely ruined it. First helping with the rent, now helping with the move... her head was about to explode.’
Julian shot her a glare. "You think you can carry all that stuff from the trunk by yourself?"
Before she could say a word, he had unbuckled his seatbelt and gotten out. Dylan turned to look at her. "Mom, I want to stay with you and Joy! I don’t mind if it’s a little messy!"
Naomi sighed in resignation and ruffled Dylan’s hair. "Alright."
The moment she stepped out of the car with Joy, Julian draped his overcoat around her. Frowning, he then took Joy from her arms. "You take Dylan and go on up. I’ll carry the things!"
He had already pulled everything out of the trunk—two large bags plus a computer. Naomi clutched his overcoat tighter and bent to pick up one of the bags, but he swept them all up with one hand. Cradling Joy in his other arm, he strode into the building. Looking at her own empty hands, she took Dylan’s and jogged after them. "Here, let me carry one..."
’She didn’t want to be accused of abusing him, after all.’
Carrying Joy with one arm and the bags with the other, Julian kept walking without looking back. "Stop questioning a man’s strength. Want to see if I can carry you up at the same time?"
To a man who had fought his way through hails of gunfire, a few bags and a small child were a piece of cake. Her fretting, as if he were made of paper, was nothing short of an insult!
Unable to argue with him, Naomi gave up. She took Dylan’s hand and followed him inside. Her building was a mid-rise with an elevator, and she lived on the 10th floor, so she walked right up to the elevator and pressed the call button.
He glanced at the indicator, saw the elevator would be a while, and suggested with a straight face, "Why don’t we take the stairs?"
"Why would we take the stairs when there’s an elevator right here? I live on the 10th floor!"
’She protested, completely baffled. It’s one thing for me, but what about Dylan? What about *him*? He’s carrying all that stuff *and* Joy. Climb ten floors?’
"Haven’t you seen the news lately? All those elevator accidents."
With that, he headed for the stairwell. She stood there, a headache forming. ’It was true there had been accidents in the news, but were they really going to be that unlucky? Besides, if she lived on a lower floor or if they weren’t carrying anything, climbing ten flights would be one thing. But look at them—loaded with bags, not to mention two children.’
Dylan, holding her hand, tilted his little face up to her and blinked. "Mom, climbing stairs is good exercise. Let’s just go with Dad. It’ll be a workout!"
Naomi glanced at Dylan, reluctantly abandoned the elevator, and started up the stairs after Julian with Dylan in tow. ’Fine, we’ll walk. But could you at least go a little faster? Are you a snail? And he keeps turning back every few steps to smile at me. He’s a psycho! And carrying a child in one arm and all that stuff in the other to climb ten floors... Is he trying to show off his strength? What’s the point?’
Other than the four of them, the stairwell was completely deserted and quiet. As Naomi climbed one step at a time, she kept glaring up at the unfazed man above her, grumbling angrily in her head.
Julian glanced back at the panting Naomi. Her fair face was flushed from the climb. He couldn’t help but stop on the landing between flights, waiting for her with a smile. "Only three floors and you’re already like this? You have less stamina than Dylan. You’re seriously out of shape..."
He was teasing her, but his tone was filled with affection. The truth was, he’d suggested the stairs simply to spend more time with her—to be with her in this quiet space, undisturbed. With their two children by their side, she was always right where he could see her just by looking back.
"Obviously..."
Naomi replied, out of breath, and leaned against the wall to pant. ’Having two children had taken a huge toll on her body. How could she be expected to keep up with a growing boy?’
’She had to be crazy, following him up the stairs just to be tortured like this.’
Just as she was resting, she got a call from the moving company. They’d carried everything up to the 10th floor, they said, but no one was home. Frustrated, she told them she’d be right there, then shot Julian a glare before taking Dylan’s hand and heading for the elevator. Julian simply chuckled to himself and, still holding Joy, continued up the stairs.
Inside the elevator, Naomi jabbed the button for the 10th floor and fumed to Dylan, "Your dad is a psycho!"
"He just wanted to spend more time with you!"
Dylan said in Julian’s defense. Naomi froze for a second, then simply pressed her lips together and didn’t say anything else.
On the 10th floor, the movers were waiting just as they’d said. Apologizing, Naomi took out her key and opened the door. But once it was open, she froze. The entire apartment was spotless. When she had viewed it yesterday, the place had been a mess that needed a thorough cleaning. She had been mentally preparing for a full day of hard work. 𝚏𝕣𝐞𝗲𝐰𝕖𝐛𝐧𝕠𝕧𝚎𝚕.𝐜𝚘𝗺
"Dad hired someone to clean it last night!"
Dylan explained. She remained stunned for a long moment before a mover’s voice came from behind her. "Excuse me, could you let us through? We need to get this stuff inside. We’ve got another job to get to!"
