Chapter 309: The Masochistic ’Hero’

Rael stepped out of the Soul Realm and coughed, getting Maria’s attention.

"I’m not usually one to kink-shame... but what the fuck?"

Maria turned to him with a raised brow. "You’re the man I saw earlier. You did seem a little unique with those fancy clothes of yours."

She took her hand away from the man’s head and approached Rael, stopping right before him.

Maria leaned in slightly, her massive breasts filling his view.

"Say... do you want to have sex with me?"

Rael tilted his head, trying to process what he had just heard.

"Thanks for the offer, but I’ll have to pass," he said plainly.

"Pity..." Maria mumbled, letting out a sigh as she straightened her posture and walked over to her throne before sitting down.

"Hector, get out of here," she said softly.

In the next moment, the bald, buff man ran away on all fours, causing a shiver to run down Rael’s spine.

"That’s creepy," Rael remarked. "What exactly did you do? Charm magic?"

A faint smirk appeared on her face. "Mmm... Maybe. I’m more surprised that you’re not reacting to my charms in the slightest."

If anything, Rael felt like his skin was being pricked every time he met eyes with her.

But aside from that, nothing.

After all, Zafira’s beauty far exceeded this woman’s.

Nevertheless, Rael picked up one of the prop chairs and placed it in front of her.

He looked her up and down for a few moments, almost as if he was evaluating her.

She manipulated others, and even created a makeshift cult.

It was funny in a way, but still...

Rael crossed one leg over the other and met her gaze. "Why were you chosen?"

"Chosen? What do you mean?" Maria replied without missing a beat.

But just like with Primordial Sight, his Soul Reading skill allowed him to tell apart lies.

And when he focused further, he could even hear her surface thoughts.

[How does he know about my hidden scenario...? Is he one of them too?]

She closed her eyes with a smile.

[I thought the arena was only going to open up in a month...]

Rael raised a brow.

"What’s the arena?"

The moment he uttered those words, her eyes widened as her previous composure all but vanished.

"You can read minds?" she asked, startled. "I knew I should’ve just not gone outside today."

Rael tapped the hilt of his sword. "Answer my question."

Yet instead of replying to him, she suddenly narrowed her eyes, causing the prickling sensation from earlier to intensify severalfold.

And that was when he felt something trickling down his nose.

He reached up and wiped it away, and just as he thought, it was his own blood.

Yet when he glanced at his HP, it seemed like it hadn’t gone down in the slightest.

"I see you need a little pep talk," Rael said as he stood up and unsheathed his sword.

Then without warning, he thrust his sword straight through her shoulder blade.

-633!

It went clean through, but instead of a scream, what he heard was slightly beyond his expectations.

"Aahhh~"

Rael’s brows twitched. A masochistic seductress. Fucking hell...

It was like finding all ends of the rainbow at once, just... in the form of her.

"Hmm?" She reopened her eyes, her cheeks blushing. "Are you not going to continue~?"

"Woman... just answer my question." Rael tried to reason with her.

But upon noticing this wasn’t going anywhere, he took matters into his own hands.

"If you tell me about the arena, I will stab you again... wherever you want."

Her eyes lit up immediately.

"I got a scenario that starts in exactly, uh... 12 days. For some reason, I’ll have to face the other chosen heroes inside an arena," Maria explained, sounding half-confused herself. "At first, there were 12 of us, but now there are only 11. It’s a team-based arena fight, basically..."

She let out a sigh. "We’ll be fighting in teams of 3... and I’m feeling a bit uneasy since the teams will be randomized. I could get the team with only 2 people, and then I’ll end up getting killed."

"Sounds rough," Rael said dryly. "So theoretically... what happens if there are only three people left out of the currently remaining 11?"

Maria fell into thought for a moment as she rested one arm beneath her breasts, lifting them up as if to show off.

"I’d say those 3 people would be thrown into the same team."

"I see..." Rael muttered.

So if my sister really is among these people... then I should go with that option.

But as it stood, he was sure the system made a typo when it wrote heroes instead of villains.

Since the last Chosen One he killed, and this woman before him both seemed off in the head.

Yet unlike the other idiot, Maria seemed like a good asset if used properly, so he decided to keep her along for the time being.

After all, he knew just how well mind manipulation skills worked.

Rael gently pulled out his sword from her shoulder blade and sheathed it.

"Thanks for the information."

Just as he turned around, prepared to leave, she suddenly tackled him, pinning him down with surprising force.

Maria got on top of him and placed her hands on his chest, her expression becoming sadistic.

"Now now..." she mumbled. "You didn’t think you could leave without going through with your word, hmm~?"

She leaned in closer, her blood dripping onto his formerly stainless white tunic.

"So what do you say we—"

Rael pushed her off and, without wasting a beat, shot her a wave.

"See ya later."

With that, he entered the Soul Realm, vanishing from sight.

She simply stared at the ground where he just stood, puzzled, and also angry.

"I know you’re listening!" Maria yelled at the top of her lungs. "I saw your face! You won’t be able to run away from me for long!"

"..."

I guess I got a stalker now.

Rael stepped off the platform and walked into the empty streets.

And since it had been a while since he last checked, he pulled out the piece of parchment and held it in front of him.

Soon, the compass appeared, yet it seemed to have somehow shattered.

And once he focused more on it, a frown appeared on his face.

<Base Location Compass is unresponsive!>

<Pointing toward the last known location...>

The compass needle spun uncontrollably before settling on a single direction, east.

Rael grumbled in unease.

Well, shit.
