Possessed No More: The True Star Returns to Claim Her Throne-Chapter 67: Gathering
Riley Perry deliberately asked him, "You’re taking me to meet your friends? Aren’t you worried your future girlfriend will get angry, Mr. Sinclair?"
Cole Sinclair: "Girlfriend?"
For some reason, his first reaction to her saying the word "girlfriend" was rejection.
’How could someone like me ever get a girlfriend?’
’Wouldn’t that just be ruining someone’s life?’
"I won’t have a girlfriend."
Riley Perry smiled, revealing two deep dimples. ’This man is so stubborn. Fine, no girlfriend, huh? I’ll remember that.’
"Have you sworn off love and relationships, Mr. Sinclair? No wonder the Sinclair Group became number one in the country. I finally see how."
Cole Sinclair felt there was an odd undertone to her comment. He sensed she was mocking him, but he didn’t know how to argue back.
"I’ve said it before. As long as you behave, I can extend the contract. I don’t plan on getting a girlfriend, so you won’t be a problem."
He thought Riley Perry would be happy to hear that, but she immediately changed the subject. "Is this outfit appropriate for meeting your friends?"
"It’s very pretty. Why wouldn’t it be appropriate?"
"By the way, I have a vacant villa at The Azure Pavilion. It was just sitting there, so I had Secretary Donovan handle the transfer this afternoon. The documents are on the coffee table. Take them. This way, you’ll have a house in Dragonspire that’s truly your own."
’Even though she’d refused before, she was still with him,’ Cole Sinclair thought. ’As long as she behaved, what was one house? It was truly nothing.’
The house she bought this afternoon was for her family, not exclusively for herself.
Sure enough, Riley Perry saw the document folder on the coffee table. The transfer procedures were already complete; she just had to pick up the property deed in a few days.
After looking through the documents, Riley Perry looked at Cole Sinclair, her enchanting, almond-shaped eyes filled with mirth. "Mr. Sinclair, what am I to do? I don’t think I can ever leave you now!"
’Heh, this guy... Gifting a property worth hundreds of millions just like that, and he still claims he has no feelings for me?’
’I’d like to see how long he can keep up this tough act.’
Cole Sinclair glanced up at her. Seeing her genuine happiness, a deep sense of satisfaction welled up inside him. "I’m glad you like it."
...
In a private suite on the eighth floor of The Grand Banquet.
Ethan Page was lounging on the sofa, the top two buttons of his pink shirt undone to reveal much of his chest. His right arm was casually draped over the back of the sofa, a cigarette held between two fingers of his left hand. With a roguish smile on his face, he gave off the air of a refined scoundrel. "Hurry up and ping Colt. See where he’s at. Don’t tell me he bailed on us halfway here."
Morgan Fisher was settled back in the sofa, slowly rolling a string of emerald-green beads in one hand. "What’s the rush? He’s definitely on his way. He’s not that petty."
Julian Fuller swirled the red wine in his glass before tilting his head back and downing most of it. "Petty or not, he actually told me not to bring a date. I asked if he was serious, but he didn’t answer. What do you guys think he meant by that?"
Ethan Page’s interest was suddenly piqued. He sat up straight on the sofa, leaning forward and wiggling his eyebrows at Julian Fuller. "You’ve been around. Analyze this for us. What’s our dear Eldest Master Sinclair up to?"
Swirling the remaining wine in his glass, Julian Fuller scoffed. "If you want to know what Colt is thinking, you’ll have to wait until we see him."
A disappointed look crossed Ethan Page’s face as he leaned back against the sofa again. Just then, the suite door was pushed open, and Cole Sinclair walked in, hand in hand with Riley Perry.
Although Cole Sinclair had said Riley Perry didn’t need to change, he had ultimately asked Henry Hayes to deliver a qipao for her.
He could never forget how stunning she looked on their second day together, wearing that jasmine-patterned dress. So, today he had gotten her an exquisitely crafted modern qipao. It lacked traditional frog buttons, featuring a cluster of moonflowers on the left shoulder instead. From the waist down, two playful peacocks were embroidered on the fabric. The skirt fell to her mid-calf. The qipao itself was a pale gold, while the embroidery was a richer golden-yellow, creating a look that was both coquettish and elegant, and exceptionally accentuating her aura.
The reactions of the three men in the suite validated Cole Sinclair’s taste.
Julian Fuller’s eyes lit up instantly. "Colt, where did you find such a stunning beauty? I’ve never seen anyone so gorgeous in my entire life!"
’And her figure is even better! People used to say the number one beauty in Dragonspire was that lady from the Valentine Family, but compared to the woman before him now, she doesn’t even come close.’
’No wonder Colt snatched her up right away. Who wouldn’t be completely smitten?!’
Julian Fuller might be a philanderer, but he respected the bro code. A brother’s woman was for glancing at, not staring at. "Colt, aren’t you going to introduce us?"
Ethan Page also averted his gaze, sighing internally at his brother’s good fortune.
The four of them had grown up together. As designated heirs to their families, they shared similar childhood experiences: being forced into an elite education arranged by their families, starting their studies at four or five years old with never a day of rest.
This was the main reason they could remain friends despite their vastly different personalities.
Cole Sinclair led Riley Perry to a seat on the sofa, then began the introductions. "This is Riley Perry. You can just call her by her name.
"These three are all my childhood friends, closer than real brothers.
"Ethan Page, the young master of Evermore Jewels. His dad is addicted to fishing and is always taking days off, so he’s the one running Evermore Jewels.
"Julian Fuller. He owns most of the clubs and bars in Dragonspire, including The Grand Banquet Club.
"He’s also the heir to the Fuller Family.
"Morgan Fisher. His family is in the pharmaceutical business. He’s the director of the largest private hospital in Dragonspire, which his family owns entirely."
Speaking of which, he remembered what Riley Perry had said during their chat in the car earlier: ’Every domineering CEO has a doctor friend. Do you have one, Mr. Sinclair?’
’Well, Morgan Fisher is his doctor friend.’
Julian Fuller: "She looks a little familiar, but I can’t remember where I’ve seen her." ’How could I have forgotten such a beautiful face? That shouldn’t be possible!’
Riley Perry smiled. "I’m an actress with Stardust, but I’m just an unknown Z-lister. It’s perfectly normal that you don’t remember me, Mr. Fuller."
Just then, the bracelet on her wrist flashed again, and the small, child-like voice echoed in her mind, ’Master, this guy is hopeless! You and he already did... *that*... and he still hasn’t even made you his girlfriend!’
’When did you wake up?’
Leo fell silent. It had woken up around noon but had shielded its five senses to avoid seeing things it shouldn’t. It had only just unblocked them upon entering the club. After all, it was still young and a bit curious. This was its first time in a place like a club, so naturally, it wanted to have a good look around.
’And then I discovered that Master’s partner here seems a bit... lacking.’
’Stay out of my business with him,’ she replied. ’Anyway, he’s handsome, incredibly rich, and I don’t have to get emotionally involved. I couldn’t be happier.’
Leo was Riley Perry’s bonded artifact, a Spirit Sword. It had gained sentience when she ascended to the Nascent Soul stage.
