Chapter 50: Chapter 50 – Still the Brother on the Road_1
Chapter 50 -50 – Still the Brother on the Road_1
When the city is steeped in an air of dread due to a horrifying crime, a certain high-rise corner is oddly calm and serene.
This is a spacious platform overlooking a corner of Zhennan Region’s Mountain. The mountain view is open and expansive, with thin clouds scattered across.
Two people sit facing each other on the platform. To the left is an elderly man of small and stooping stature, his face lined as if carved by a chisel. He wears grey-brown clothes, his appearance simple and unadorned.
To the right is a tall figure cloaked in black. An eerie bronze mask conceals his face. It’s none other than the Divine Envoy who once appeared on Hidden Forest Mountain.
He’s now pulling out a brocade box from his sleeve and pushing it in front of the elder.
“I heard that the Black Mountain Village Elder is advancing into the Fifth Realm, so here’s a small token of my sincere respect,” the Demon Race Divine Envoy speaks politely.
The elder opens the brocade box to reveal a somewhat wilted black lotus, distinguished by three golden stripes on its body that shine with a mystical glow.
“The Dark Sea Golden Lotus…” the elder chuckles lightly, “Lord Divine Envoy, you went to a lot of trouble for this gift.”
“I just happened to come across it and thought it would make a nice gift, so I picked it up,” the Divine Envoy says nonchalantly.
He is indifferent to how many lives were claimed by this ‘casual’ act of his.
“I’ll take the gift back to the elder. He will surely like it,” the elder nods, “Due to Lord Divine Envoy’s actions, Kaoshan City is now heavily guarded and I can’t return for the time being. However, I’ve only to stay here and they won’t find me no matter how intensely they search the city. You can rest assured.”
“To be honest, I initially prepared a scapegoat to successfully mislead the government office for a while, but he did not fall into the trap,” the Divine Envoy also chuckles, “However, the imposed lockdown on the city won’t last long. There are many merchants in Kaoshan City and it will open in a maximum of seven days. It’s no major inconvenience.”
“I must tell you, we Black Witches have increasingly difficult days in the Southern Region. Resources for breaking through the Fifth Realm like this are indeed hard to come by. No Sixth Realm Great Witch has emerged from our village for many years,” the elder sighed before saying, “This time I represent the seventeen united Black Witch Villages of the Southern Region, seeking a way to survive.”
Upon hearing this, the Divine Envoy also sighs deeply, “Who would have thought that the descendants of the Supreme Witch God would have to struggle so much to survive in the future?”
The elder can only reply with a bitter smile.
Certainly, a Witch God has existed in this world, but only in the legendary Ancient Era, maybe tens of thousands of years ago or even longer. Their Witch Clan, after all, are humans, their lifespan less than that of the demonic race.
No one remembers the glory days of the Witch God anymore.
“We just want to survive,” he shook his head, “Not to mention the conflict with White Witch Village, Sanjue Valley’s extermination of us becomes increasingly ruthless. If not for this, we might not have considered allying with you, the demonic race. Even so, many village elders still worry…”
“Worried about what?” the Divine Envoy asked.
“Worried that you’re ultimately from the demonic race,” the elder said, “If your plans come true, will you annihilate all humans?”
“Ha-ha,” the Divine Envoy laughed, “In the times when the Human Clan had its Saints, were we, the demonic race, annihilated? Even if the gods return, the Human Clan will still exist. Humans will still be ruled by humans.”
“When that time comes, things like the Nine Heavens and Ten Lands should be eradicated. The Human Clan… they might as well change their name to Witch Clan.”
“All seven Demon Kings agree with this. Before the gods return, all friends who have helped us will be gifted a new world after their return,” the Divine Envoy spread his arms out as if embracing an imaginary new world.
The elder, however, retained his calm complexion. He didn’t quite buy into the Divine Envoy’s impassioned speech but merely listened attentively. He then continued, “This also concerns the second worry of the elders from each village…”
“They’re worried that your… gods, are fake.”
…
[Shu]: “Dark Sea Golden Lotus?”
[Fifty Eight]: “That’s right. After my investigation, it appears that it was taken by a Demon Race Envoy… But there are not more traces to follow.”
[Shu]: “If I can get this Dark Sea Golden Lotus, I could break through the third level of the Five Elements Realm today! Do not relax your investigation. I’m going to ask other sect members if they can assist near Kaoshan City.”
[Fifty Eight]: “I’ll definitely do my best.”
[Fifty Nine]: “What? Dark Sea Golden Lotus! In just a few days senior has found what Master Sha needs. Impressive!”
Seeing [Fifty Nine] pipe up again, Chu Liang ignores him.
He just waits patiently for Sha’s reply.
The reason he asked in the Soul Realm Space is that he had contemplated it for a while.
The Dark Sea Golden Lotus is primarily used in alchemy, medicine, or aiding cultivation. It holds little value for the monsters.
And for a Demon Race Divine Envoy to suddenly commit such a crime to obtain this object, it certainly won’t be just for play.
Those who need such a object for cultivation mostly belong to the evil sects practicing sorcery, witchery, poison, or similar arts. Considering the Divine Envoy’s purpose for this trip … and his previous behavior.
He might be again trying to win people over using gifts, employing a strategy of robbing Peter to pay Paul.
Perhaps these demonic creatures from foreign lands are just used to giving stolen items as gifts.
His traces are long gone, but the people he’s in contact with could potentially leave a trail. Even in the shadow realm, there still exist networks of relationships.
Shortly after, he receives a response from Sha.
[Shu]: “I’ve asked other sect members. There indeed is one near Kaoshan City, but they cannot directly assist you and have no knowledge of this matter. However, they did offer some information – to inquire about news in Kaoshan City, you can go to Second Lady Gu’s tavern.”
As expected.
The reliable information must be from the underworld.
Even though it’s merely a lead to investigate the news, it’s still better than being completely clueless.
[Fifty Eight]: “Second Lady Gu’s tavern? Alright, I will be on my way to conduct the investigation.”
[Shu]: “Your hard work in this matter will not go unnoticed. Once I make my breakthrough, you will be rewarded accordingly. Regardless of the outcome of this, I am grateful for your help.”
[Fifty Eight]: “Master Sha, do not stand on ceremony; it’s all part of my duty.”
[Fifty Nine]: “Six six six.”
After putting away the Soul Summoning Order, Chu Liang immediately informs Yun Chaoxian.
“I’m going to probe for some information. You wait for me here and don’t move.”
The situation at the location is unknown and it’s not advisable to take Yun Chaoxian there. If some Underworld King Sect-related material was inadvertently revealed, it would be hard to explain.
Yun Chaoxian curiously asks, “To probe for information? Where?”
Chu Liang replies, “I asked a friend for some channels, it’s quite secretive, so it’s better if I go alone.”
“Okay,” Yun Chaoxian nods, adding, “You should thank your friend very much.”
Chu Liang chuckles.
No need.
