PERFECT REINCARNATION : Being Invincible in Another World-Chapter 86: The Wager
Aurelion had just came back from the exploration of the Gloomfang Hollows, the long journey still weighing on his body. Dust from the dungeon roads clung faintly to the hem of his cloak and the leather of his boots, and although he had returned victorious, the exhaustion of battle and travel had not yet left him. The moment he stepped through the castle courtyard, a rushing Knight Guard came straight to Aurelion, his armor clattering lightly with the speed of his approach.
"Your Highness," the guard said while bowing quickly, still catching his breath from the run. "His Majesty, King Aurex, has summoned you to the Royal Quarters immediately."
Aurelion paused for a brief moment. He had only just returned from the dungeon and had expected at least some time to rest before dealing with the affairs of the court. Yet hearing that the king himself had called for him, he could already guess the reason behind the summons. News inside the palace moved faster than arrows, especially when it involved the Crown Prince leaving the capital and entering a dungeon. So, he was expecting to be praised after completing his last night’s bet.
Aurelion, tired he was, complied with the summon and quickly moved his way towards the Royal Quarters. The corridors of the palace were quieter than usual as evening slowly approached. Lanterns hung along the stone walls, casting warm light across the long hallways while the faint echoes of servants moving about somewhere deeper in the palace filled the silence.
He entered the room, pushing the humongous doors. The heavy doors creaked slightly as they opened, revealing the private chamber of the royal quarters beyond.
Aurex sat quietly upon the high-backed throne within the royal quarters, the chamber around him lit by the soft glow of evening lanterns that cast long shadows across the polished stone floor. Unlike the grand throne room used for public audiences, this chamber was reserved for private matters of the royal household. The throne itself was carved from deep obsidian stone, its back rising tall behind him and etched with ancient patterns that spoke of the kingdom’s long lineage. Aurex rested one arm along the armrest, his posture relaxed but composed, the quiet authority of the seat settling naturally around him. The large doors closed slowly behind Aurelion with a heavy thud, sealing the room in silence.
"... You are not worthy to be the Crown Prince." The first words he heard in that room. "Huh... " He reacted. "... What happened so suddenly?" Aurelion asked, surprised by Aurex’s sudden declaration.
"...I have heard about your mischiefs, over and over again." Aurex said with a serious look. "I have warned you before for it too, that you need to be more responsible." He flicked his hands. "The court has been constantly pestering me about it too." He added. Aurex’s expression remained stern, his gaze unwavering as it rested upon Aurelion. It was clear that this was not a sudden outburst but a frustration that had been building for quite some time.
"As the Crown Prince, you are too childish. I thought of it over and over again but I really think you need to leave your identity as a Magician and pursue Aura with all your focus." Aurex let his inner thoughts slip out.
For a brief moment, the room grew quiet again. Aurelion stood still where he was, the faint fatigue from the dungeon still lingering in his body, but his mind now entirely focused on the conversation before him.
AHH, I SEE. SO, THAT’S THE PROBLEM WITH HIM. HE IS JUST IMPRESSED BY HEARING MY ACHIEVEMENT AND FINDING EXCUSES TO MAKE ME LEAVE MAGIC AND PURSUE AURA. SIGH. I THOUGHT WE WERE ALREADY OVER THIS. The realization settled in his mind almost immediately.
"... I see, Father. So that’s the real issue. So from now on, I shall prove to you that I have the abilities and intelligence to back up the throne." Aurelion lifted his head. "... I shall depart next month and am gonna rule my independent territory which should be enough for you to rest your mind." He paused then added. "... Nevertheless, our previous conversation of me proving Rowan’s strength also stands." Aurelion tackled with his pride. Then he smiled wickedly and said "...Father, My dear Father. There is a twist though, I will achieve all of this only with my magic abilities."
"WHAT— HOW DARE YOU ABANDON AURA AS AN ETERNAL" Aurex roared.
"... Who said anything about abandoning? The world doesn’t know anything about my swordsman skills either way. I shall prove the whole world my brilliance as a magician. It can also serve as a gift from my side to congratulate her." Aurelion said.
FATHER TRIED TO BE SLICK, DID HE FORGOT I AM FAMOUS FOR MY TRICKERY. 𝐟𝗿𝐞𝚎𝚠𝐞𝚋𝕟𝐨𝚟𝐞𝕝.𝕔𝕠𝚖
So, guys. That’s the gist of it. He tried to make me leave Magic, so in rebellion, I simply left Aura. Well, Of course only in front of World that is. I hope now, you understand the reason behind it.
And now coming back to the timeskip, Like I said before it’s been seven years. So Seven years ago, I left the capital with little more than a title and a stretch of land that most people in the court considered useless. The territory they granted me sat on the outer edge of the kingdom, a place of scattered villages, untamed forests, and roads that barely deserved to be called roads at all. Well, this was Father’s way of making me work for it and thinking I’ll come back crying to castle.
At first, even the locals were unsure what to expect from a Crown Prince who chose to rule them directly rather than hide behind officials. I spent the early years traveling through the region myself, learning the land, speaking with the people, and understanding what the territory truly needed rather than what the court imagined it needed. We rebuilt roads to connect the villages, strengthened the local militia to keep bandits away, and opened trade routes that slowly brought life back to the markets. I also established an Imperial academy where those with magical potential could train without needing noble blood or Imperial. Of course, it was not a grand transformation overnight, but over time the land began to prosper. What was once dismissed as a forgotten frontier gradually became the kingdom’s most stable and popular region, and through those years, I learned more about ruling people than any palace lesson could have taught me.
Well, various things happened in meantime, don’t worry, I will keep updating you time to time. Right now, It is time for a new beginning.
