Out of Control: Into Your Everything-Chapter 184: His One and Only Star
Julian Ford spoke in a light, indifferent tone, with no trace of emotion.
Scarlett Shaw said her goodbyes to the others and returned to the Cloud Mansion with Julian. On the way, neither of them spoke a word, as if in silent agreement.
The stark, hard silence was worlds apart from the earlier lively atmosphere.
Scarlett, unable to endure the oppressive silence, stepped into the Cloud Mansion and immediately pressed him against the hallway cabinet, pretending to be angry as she fiercely questioned:
"Julian Ford, aren’t you being a bit too excessive!"
Julian casually wrapped his arm around her slender waist, his palm rubbing against her waist with an unchanged expression, leisurely gazing at her, "Tell me, where was I excessive."
"I was held captive for a day and a night, and even now, you haven’t uttered a word of concern!"
Scarlett’s accusation had barely started when she felt a wave of grievance rising.
"Not only do you not care about me, but you also deliberately avoid talking to me! You even pose as that annoying boss, with eyes that scream: Reflect on yourself! Tell me, aren’t you being excessive!"
Julian tightened his hold on her, lowered his head, and gently kissed her soft pink lips, with tenderness, though his eyes seemed like deep pools.
He gazed at her angry almond-shaped eyes, slightly retreating, maintaining a close distance.
As their breaths mingled, Julian calmly and assuredly said, "If you hadn’t purposely delayed your time with Liam Spencer, making it hard for me to find you, I wouldn’t have been angry."
"..."
Scarlett turned her head slightly, softly defending herself, "My phone was thrown away last night. I couldn’t contact you, so there was no intention."
"You’ve told me before you wouldn’t lie to me."
He deepened his grip on her waist, increasing the distance with a sharp edge.
"You also promised me, I wouldn’t lose contact with you."
"With your intelligence and awareness, staying in such a situation even a second longer would put you at greater risk."
"Liam is an addict, even if he has a conscience. What guarantee do you have that he wouldn’t suddenly change his mind? No matter the depth of your conversation, your first thought should be finding a way to leave, rather than engaging in meaningless talks with him."
Scarlett remained silent for a moment.
Ultimately, under Julian’s scrutinizing gaze, she gave in, not denying his words.
Julian’s eyes focused, his voice finally tinged with slight anger, "You shouldn’t gamble with your own safety."
"Why can’t I?"
Scarlett countered, staring intently at him.
"You can disregard your own life, push me away despite my feelings. Why shouldn’t I make you feel the same as I do?"
"You’re only thinking about yourself, not considering me at all. You never thought about how hard it would be for me if I lost you!" 𝒇𝙧𝙚𝓮𝙬𝙚𝓫𝒏𝓸𝓿𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝙤𝓶
"You’re right. I indeed stayed with Liam, waiting for you to find me. No matter how much I’ve tried to persuade you, you insist on not letting me stay by your side. Aren’t you the one who remains calm and rational, wanting to face things alone? If I’m bound to leave eventually, why not just leave a bit sooner?"
Scarlett knew her little tricks were bound to be seen through by Julian.
But she chose to do them anyway.
Why should she be the only one to feel sadness and fear?
No matter if she achieves her aim, she needed him to experience the fear of losing her, even risking her own life!
Julian’s dark eyes were like ink, gazing into Scarlett’s.
The dead silence spread.
Scarlett feared his silence the most.
The urge to voice her selfish thoughts flooded out in one instant, offering a fleeting satisfaction.
But after satisfaction faded, reality not only remained unchanged but hastened their separation due to her impulsive actions.
The more she thought this way, the faster the confidence she had just fought for disappeared.
The sensation of grievance, so intense it was almost suffocating, magnified infinitely. She was ultimately defeated by his calm rationality, first to yield in this silent confrontation, lowering her head to tug at his sleeve:
"You know, I did this only because I don’t want to leave you. Even if I plead, please, don’t separate from me."
She truly couldn’t bear to let him go.
Even the thought of possibly losing him forever filled Scarlett with pain.
She dared not imagine what life would be like without him going forward.
"Perhaps you’re right."
Scarlett bit her lips tight, her heart ached, the taste of blood lingered in her mouth, and her voice carried a sobbing tone.
"There are many things more important than love in life that can bring longer-lasting happiness than the dopamine of romance, but Julian Ford—"
"Nothing compares to you."
She had never told him, that during the times they were only physically entwined, each fall from grace ended, that cold side of him, when he held her while asleep, gave her a warmth never felt these years. He personally made her realize, his heart is truly warm.
That was the real starting point of her affection for him.
Yet, feeling for someone who doesn’t truly care for her but only connects physically, seemed pitiful.
Thus, she continually deceived herself, convincing herself, it was merely a case of lust for the moment, seeking the pleasure his appearance brought and practical benefits.
Not because of who he truly is.
Scarlett’s moist almond eyes held endless pain, intense fear, and burning love.
She was always like this, in front of him, never hiding any true feelings, even if her eyes also showed extreme dissatisfaction toward him, contained blame and accusations, but truth rang within, still telling Julian Ford:
She is the best.
"If this time, you intended to retaliate against me, then you’ve succeeded."
Julian spoke calmly, succinctly, each word.
Landing in Scarlett’s ear, sliding to the heart’s point, stirred an internal tempest.
She felt her heart beating quickly, as the storm engulfed her heart, not bringing cold, rather making her anticipate his next words.
"Even without the incident with Liam, this time I returned intending to tell you."
He sighed lightly, his eyes full of helplessness towards her, his eyelids lowered gently, releasing his grip on her waist, clutching her hand, intertwining his fingers through her slender ones, tightly, fully laced with hers.
"Scarlett Shaw, I won’t let you go again, for any reason, never."
The warm orange light at the foyer bathed Julian’s deep, dark eyes, resembling a calm lake lit by starlight.
He gazed at her with seriousness and solemnity.
The starlight in his eyes was nothing else but simply looking at his own, one-of-a-kind star.
