Out of Control: Into Your Everything-Chapter 185: The Suspension Bridge Effect
Sometimes, deep and intense love doesn’t need a grand and dramatic process.
Just like Scarlett Shaw towards Julian Ford.
In Julian Ford’s past life, even familial love was void, let alone romantic love.
But Scarlett’s appearance made him see the world anew.
She wasn’t a storming blizzard or a rampaging beast of summer, but a gentle, silent drizzle, unknowingly occupying his every thought.
Otherwise, how could he be willing to compromise his final insistence for her?
Other than love, there is no other explanation. Julian Ford, who never believed in sincerity, had a heart filled with the treasure named Scarlett, leaving no room for anything else.
She made him see his true feelings, and these feelings, undoubtedly, would be hers.
"Are you... serious?"
Maybe his change was too sudden; Scarlett couldn’t believe her ears for a while, gripping his hand to confirm, fearing that she’d be let go again.
Julian Ford looked at her, "When have I ever broken a promise to you?"
"That has never been the case." Scarlett paused, then said, "You’ve always directly criticized me, rejected me, hurt my fragile heart."
Julian Ford raised an eyebrow.
Scarlett still found it hard to believe, stars twinkling in her almond eyes, "Did you encounter something on a business trip that triggered you?"
"What kind of trigger could be greater than someone deliberately disappearing, causing me such fright?"
He chuckled lightly, his stern face touched with a softness that made her dazed, unable to restrain herself from standing on tiptoe to kiss him.
The kiss, filled with intense love, became unstoppable.
From the hallway to the study.
Scarlett was lifted onto the desk by Julian Ford. He liked cleanliness; the desk was always spotless, but now it was imbued with an enchanting air of affection.
"I told you it wasn’t intentional." Scarlett momentarily escaped the heat, defended herself, "I just went with the flow! If Liam hadn’t acted first, I wouldn’t have had a sudden thought to make trouble!"
"That won’t do either."
Julian Ford’s tone was not to be disputed, just like his claim over her at this moment.
"I’ve said before, you can throw tantrums with me, act up, but you can’t disappear. And here you are, suddenly proud of yourself after dodging a bullet?"
Listening to her tone without any guilt, he became somewhat irritated. During the process, punishing her was easy.
The tingling sensation trickled through every nerve ending, causing Scarlett to break out in a thin layer of sweat on her forehead, her voice changed in pitch. Julian Ford lowered his head to kiss her delicate, slightly sweat-dampened nose tip, wetness intertwining.
Pressed tightly against the bookcase.
The cabinet shook.
A book that wasn’t entirely wedged into the edge of one shelf suddenly fell, hitting the ground, landing near Julian Ford’s feet.
Scarlett glanced down inadvertently.
A familiar photograph slipped out of the book, falling to the side.
It was a photo she had seen before, a picture of Julian Ford and Ryan Ford together.
At that moment, memories of being chased out by Julian Ford with a cold face vividly came to her mind. Scarlett’s anger suddenly rose, deliberately making a move that left Julian Ford rather uncomfortable. The latter tightly held her chin:
"Can’t satisfy you?"
Scarlett’s legs were hooked by him, her toes touched the photo on the floor, "It brought back unpleasant memories for me."
Julian Ford lowered his eyes, followed her gaze, and when the photo entered his view, his eyes deepened.
However, at this moment, he didn’t have the time to care about a mere photo.
Gripping her waist until the end, he picked up the book and photo together, putting them back in their place.
"If I remember correctly, the night we confirmed our relationship, I apologized to you about this matter."
Julian Ford wasn’t buying her intention to bring up old grievances again.
As soon as it ended, his eyes were clear.
Of course, his mind was rational, but some places were not.
Scarlett glared at him with red eyes, "I’m not saying you have to apologize again; I just..."
Julian Ford carried her into the bathroom for a bath, asking, "Just what?"
"I just feel that you and Ryan looked even more alike when you were little."
"..."
Julian Ford ignored Scarlett’s words, and after bathing her, as he carried her back to bed, he said softly, "Either you move into Cloud Mansion, or I move to your place, pick one."
Scarlett was taken aback, "You’re asking to live together with me?"
Julian Ford glanced at her, "You could interpret it that way."
The main reason he brought this up, of course, was to prevent the recurrence of incidents like the one involving Liam Spencer.
However, what Julian Ford didn’t expect was that Scarlett didn’t immediately agree to it.
Not only did she not agree, but there was more resistance in her bright, dewy eyes.
He squinted slightly, dissatisfaction in his breath, "You don’t want to?"
Scarlett looked at him and said seriously, "Haven’t you heard a saying that living together can either elevate a relationship or cause it to break apart?"
Julian Ford curled his lips, dangerous calmness in his voice, "So, are you trying to tell me that living with me will break our relationship?"
Scarlett remained silent.
But her pretty almond eyes were full of agreement.
Julian Ford’s expression grew even more dangerous.
Scarlett pretended not to see, daringly continued to say:
"Given your poor behavior when I was taking care of you previously when our relationship was still unclear, I have reasonable and sufficient grounds to refuse you. Besides, although I like you very much, I also need personal space. As for living together, let’s put it aside for now and discuss it after you recover." 𝒇𝙧𝙚𝓮𝙬𝙚𝓫𝒏𝓸𝓿𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝙤𝓶
This response even surprised Julian Ford.
He pondered her words for a while. When he finally lifted the quilt and got into bed, he unexpectedly said:
"Sounds pretty lofty, are you just trying to express the idea that the more you see me, the more you might get annoyed?"
"..."
Julian Ford’s tone was calm and indifferent, making it hard to tell if he was really angry.
But, to ensure her safety, Scarlett still appeased him, saying: "You’re sick right now, and this relationship between us has a suspension bridge effect. Of course, I’d naturally be more tolerant of you. Once you’re better, who knows."
When love is budding and passionate, any external obstacles might serve as a catalyst for intensifying the feelings.
However, when the passion fades, the friction during realistic coexistence often becomes the true test.
Julian Ford hadn’t overlooked this point, but Scarlett’s calmness at this moment allowed him to see a different side of her. She could boldly and passionately express her love for him and give wholeheartedly for love, yet at the same time maintaining self-awareness and clarity.
He suddenly remembered something Josiah Sutton had said:
"You think they love you enough, yet when they choose to leave, they can do so decisively, without any qualms."
A sudden, inexplicable pain surged in Julian Ford’s heart, causing him to frown.
And when he looked at the instigator again.
Someone had already nestled in comfortably, holding him, and had fallen into a deep sleep.
