Our Love Story: Hard to Guard Against the Sudden Love Strike-Chapter 308 - 297: Stingy
A few days later, Sylvia Langley’s agency agreement was returned, and Sienna Thornton began preparing the divorce proceedings for Zane Forrester and his wife.
Since both were United States nationals and Zane Forrester’s business was in the United States, Sylvia Langley wanted to divide their post-marital assets as cleanly as possible. Therefore, Sienna Thornton and her partner discussed and decided to file for divorce in the United States.
The property regulations for couples vary from state to state in the United States, but fortunately, the state where both Zane and Sylvia reside practices "community property." Thus, as long as the evidence and investigation are thorough, Sylvia Langley could indeed receive half of the assets.
Although Sienna Thornton promised Simon Forrester she would do her utmost to preserve his parents’ marriage, she still needed to make a show of it to force Zane Forrester to take a stand. So she quickly got in touch with her classmates in the United States and entrusted the law firm there to handle the Forrester-Langley divorce case together.
The efficiency of American lawyers was high; as soon as they received the case, the agency agreement and other paperwork were ready. Once Sylvia Langley and Sienna Thornton signed and the documents were received, a lawsuit was filed immediately.
One night at the end of June, Simon Forrester and Sienna Thornton were preparing to sleep when they suddenly received a call from Zane Forrester from the United States, saying he had arrived in The South and planned to apologize to Sylvia Langley and her family tomorrow.
"Okay, I understand, I wish you all the best." Simon Forrester hung up the phone, turned, lay back on the bed, and embraced Sienna Thornton again.
Sienna Thornton moved slightly, asking, "Who was that call from?"
"My dad," Simon Forrester chuckled, "He went to The South to make amends with my mom. This time, it should be fine."
Sienna Thornton also breathed a sigh of relief, "If they divorce, you’ll be the one who loses the most."
Simon Forrester didn’t say anything.
Sienna Thornton said, "Your parents aren’t even sixty, right? Women can live without men, but men’s lives are incomplete without women, so your dad will definitely remarry. He looks so young and is wealthy; he might even marry a young girl who’s never been married or had children. Those girls would definitely want to have kids, and you might end up with a younger brother or sister then..."
This means the inheritance Simon Forrester can receive will significantly dwindle, and there would be a stepmother and several half-siblings in his life.
From an ethical standpoint, such a situation is hard to accept in itself.
Just imagining such a scenario made Simon Forrester want to curse.
He hugged Sienna Thornton tightly and sighed, "So even though you were very unhappy with my mom trying to set me up with Nina Sinclair, you never thought of helping to push her divorce, right?"
"If your parents divorce, once your mom leaves the Forrester Family, the resistance to us being together would naturally lessen. But I know you definitely don’t want to see your parents divorce, so..."
She didn’t finish, as Simon Forrester understood everything.
"I just like you the way you are." Simon Forrester said.
Sienna Thornton turned to look at him.
The floor lamp by the bed cast a soft glow, making his features appear gentle.
Her heart softened as well, and she asked tenderly, "The way I am?"
"Without malicious thoughts, fair, and just." He tightened his arms around her, murmuring, "Someone like you makes others trust and feel secure."
She smiled innocently, turned around, and hugged him, whispering, "How can I have no bad thoughts at all! At first, didn’t I want to trick you out of your design?"
Speaking of their love story, it all started with that design, and Simon Forrester laughed brightly, "You promised me shares, but I refused. So, initially, you didn’t have any intention to ’trick’ me."
The little head in his embrace shook, "Not right. If my intentions were too pure, I wouldn’t have even thought of it or gone to your place with a bottle of wine and a business plan."
Simon Forrester laughed heartily, recalling that magical night, "Why were you so bold back then? Going to a man’s house at night to deliver wine, didn’t you know what that could imply?"
Sienna Thornton muffledly replied, "That day’s decision was so sudden; I didn’t have anything good on hand, so I randomly asked Maeve for a bottle of wine. I thought it was always bad to go empty-handed to talk business... Plus, you are Partner Reed’s cousin, and you knew I was a lawyer, so I assumed you wouldn’t dare to do anything to me, so I went."
Simon Forrester pinched her chubby cheek, scolding seriously, "In matters of safety, the worst thing is having a fluke mind-set! Whether you’re a lawyer or I’m Tobias’s cousin, your actions that night were dangerous. Fortunately, you met me. Had it been any other ill-intentioned man, you can’t even imagine the consequences! You can’t do this again, okay?"
"Uh-huh," Sienna Thornton nodded vigorously, being obedient, "I know! I’ve never done such a thing, that night was like I was under a spell! Probably the heavens wanted us together because of it!"
Her words drilled into Simon Forrester’s ears like "I fell in love with you at first sight, I couldn’t help myself but run to you."
Simon Forrester felt immensely satisfied inside, but still feigned seriousness, lecturing her for a while.
Sienna Thornton, knowing she was in the wrong on this matter, didn’t try to argue back. After he finished, she grabbed onto the topic and asked, "Then why did you let me stay in your house back then! Didn’t you know it’s easy for something to happen when a beauty stays at your house?"
Simon Forrester lowered his eyes, gazing at her, "Firstly, are you a beauty? Secondly, did anything happen between us back then?"
Sienna Thornton: "..."
She puffed her cheeks angrily, like a pufferfish. Her bright eyes stared at Simon Forrester for a while before turning away.
Simon Forrester pulled her back into his arms, watching her still puffed-up cheeks, smiling inwardly, then asked, "Do you know why, when the nurse took leave, I neither arranged for a new nurse for you nor allowed your friends to come over and take care of you?"
"Because you’re stingy!" Sienna Thornton mimicked his then-righteous tone of refusal, mocking, "Something about being extremely private and unable to tolerate strangers entering your space blah blah blah..."
The Forresters chuckled, resting his arms behind his head, lying back in his spot.
He stared into space, recalling how after the nurse left, Sienna Thornton had tormented him for several days to force him to hire a new nurse.
That period was something he still found beautiful in hindsight.
But it seems Sienna Thornton still didn’t know why he acted that way back then...
Seeing the events abstractly, the reasons he provided were indeed justifiable; but when all these things are linked, his intentions were clear as day.
It’s just that this silly girl, who’s never been in love, couldn’t see the hint.
