Chapter 226: Chapter 224: The Most Beautiful Confession

When Sienna Thornton reached the second floor, Mr. Wagner and the people he brought along were already planning to leave. Rhonda Wagner was about to escort them downstairs, so Sienna quickly went over to greet them and exchanged business cards.

Rhonda Wagner sent them off downstairs. She decided to wait on the second floor so they could go to the third floor together to meet Thomas Reed’s guests.

Soon after, Rhonda Wagner returned, and the two went up to the third floor together.

Aurora Buckley had already been socializing for quite a while and quickly headed to the first floor to greet other guests upon seeing them come over.

Once all the guests had been attended to, it was already noon. The public relations company was responsible for organizing everyone on site to have lunch at "The Imperial Court Club." Happily, "The Imperial Court Club" was nearby, so it was a quick trip.

Simon Forrester and Old Master Forrester were greeting dozens of business magnates, while Sienna Thornton joined Rhonda, Aurora, and others with people from the Bar Association and the Department of Justice.

Mid-meal, Sienna Thornton left the private room to catch her breath and happened to meet the Vice Chairman of the Bar Association, who also stepped out for a smoke break.

She quickly put away the fatigue on her face, smiling as she approached him warmly, "Chairman King, there’s a smoking area over here. Let me show you."

Sienna’s enthusiasm as such a beautiful lawyer was much appreciated. Chairman King smoked a cigarette in the smoking area and, feeling exuberant, secretly told her, "Your investigation was officially withdrawn a few days ago; you won’t be prosecuted. No need to worry."

Startled, she pretended to be relieved, grateful, "That’s really wonderful. I kept thinking I would be prosecuted and worried every day! Now it’s alright, thank you very much."

The other party chuckled, lowering his voice, "Initially, it was planned to prosecute; the evidence was quite substantial. But Thomas Reed kept asking us to hold off, saying a key witness had fled and was still being located. But actually, your case wouldn’t be much different with or without that witness’s testimony. She had already done an extrajudicial deposition, and that was sufficient. The chairman has been classmates with Thomas Reed for years and agreed to extend the deadline by six months. Last week, the extension expired, and after research, it was decided to prosecute your case. But suddenly, the chairman received notification from above to withdraw your case immediately, never to prosecute, and asked us to close it due to insufficient evidence."

Sienna Thornton was taken aback and asked, "Notification from above? Do you know who it was?"

Chairman King didn’t elaborate further, giving her a meaningful look, snuffed out his cigarette, and smiled politely, "I wouldn’t know."

After saying that, he gestured invitingly, asking Sienna Thornton to return to the private room.

Due to this episode, Sienna Thornton found it hard to enjoy the feast on the table. Finally enduring until the luncheon ended, she took the opportunity to chat with Thomas Reed for a few moments aside.

Thomas Reed admitted he had asked the Bar Association for a six-month extension but also wasn’t sure who requested they drop the prosecution against Sienna Thornton.

Right in front of Sienna Thornton, he called the Bar Association chairman, who claimed not to know and said since it’s now settled, no need to dwell on the case.

This matter seemed mysterious everywhere, whether deliberately false tests originally made by Paige Pemberton or now the "person above" deciding not to prosecute her. It all made Sienna Thornton feel uncomfortable as if being manipulated.

She’s a lawyer, unable to clarify the case is truly tormenting.

-

Simon Forrester first chauffeured Old Master Forrester back to the old residence. Sienna Thornton saw off the last batch of guests and returned to the office with colleagues from the law firm.

The public relations staff had already cleaned up the site. The plaque unveiled in the morning was now hanging above the doorway, with sleek calligraphy spelling "Cognitas Law Firm."

Sienna Thornton, Rhonda Wagner, and Aurora Buckley stood before the law firm’s entrance, taking a group photo.

The three returned to their offices with determination and zeal, ready to start working on any case at any time.

Sienna Thornton entered her office, retrieved the homestay case files locked in the safe previously, and carefully studied them.

While focused, the door to her office sounded; she called out "Come in," and Simon Forrester strode in in a few steps, shutting the door, hands in pockets, leisurely surveying her office.

She frowned, put away her pen, leaned back against the leather office chair, asking lightly, "What are you looking for?"

"Just seeing if there’s anything you need here."

Sienna Thornton sighed, wrinkled her nose at him, replied feebly, "Come over here and sit, I have something to discuss with you."

Simon Forrester turned to look at her, finally realizing her odd mood, quickly pulled over a swivel chair in front of the desk, sat in front of her, held her hands, and asked with concern, "What’s the matter? Too exhausted?"

As he spoke, he reached toward her smooth forehead.

She pulled down his hand, contemplating before mentioning the matter from noon.

Simon Forrester listened quietly and asked afterward, "If it wasn’t Thomas Reed, could it be Rhonda Wagner’s father who managed it? Isn’t her father a senior prosecutor?"

Sienna Thornton shook her head, "Impossible, Rhonda Wagner wouldn’t know about my case. Even if he did, he would definitely ask my opinion before letting his father help, not handle it quietly."

"True." Simon Forrester said, suddenly wide-eyed, "Could it be your classmate from Azure Harbor, Daniel?"

Sienna Thornton chuckled, "How could it be? Daniel has no judicial connections in mainland China." After laughing, her face turned serious again.

Simon Forrester leaned forward, embraced her, calmly comforting her, "Or maybe because six months have passed, and public opinion has died down. Plus, you’ve always kept contact with people from the Treaty and Law Department. They might feel there’s a need for you in the future and decided to suppress this matter."

Hearing this, Sienna Thornton found a bit of sense, or perhaps the relevant departments reviewed the South Bay Court’s trial records, seeing no necessity to prosecute her, considering multiple facets, decided to let it go.

Thinking this way, Sienna Thornton felt much more relieved, and the pressure lingering over her heart faded somewhat. She cupped Simon Forrester’s face, gleefully kissed him, and laughed, "Your thinking is intriguing; I feel like my mind has opened up!"

Simon Forrester laughed heartily, raised his hand rubbing her face, "So if you run into issues, consult with me more. Don’t just dwell on it yourself. The more you think, the less clear it might get. Talk to me; I might provide you some ideas. Though I didn’t study law, precisely because I don’t know, my solutions are more diverse."

This speech moved Sienna Thornton, who had been emotionally unstable and uneasy all day, deeply, and she cuddled up to him softly, saying, "That phrase you said was right; being together for two people is not just about love but also supporting the other when they fall. Thank you for being with me for this past year, supporting me through career ups and downs, from having nothing to having everything, then losing it all. With you, I no longer fear not finding my biological father, because having you is enough. As long as you’re by my side, I fear nothing."

Finished speaking, she cupped his face, closed her eyes, gently kissed him. After kissing, she shyly buried her face into his neck.

Simon Forrester felt his heart melting.

She had never expressed such emotional words to him before. Though there wasn’t a single phrase like "I love you" or "I like you", he felt it was the most beautiful confession he’d heard.

He longed for mutual reliance, wished to feel his significance to her, hoped to become the tree that shields her, solving her troubles, ensuring her wellbeing.

He felt this was how a normal, mature relationship should be.
