Chapter 227: Chapter 225: Spiritually Married Already

Simon Forrester spent some time with Sienna Thornton in the office before getting up to greet the other two partners next door. Aurora Buckley is a female lawyer, so to avoid suspicion, he just said hello from the doorway and didn’t even enter her office before heading to see Rhonda Wagner next door.

When he first heard that this partner was a young and promising male lawyer, Simon Forrester was resistant. It was only after Tobias Blackwood mentioned that the other party already had a girlfriend that he agreed to let Rhonda Wagner become Sienna Thornton’s partner.

However, agreeing is one thing; necessary precautions must still be taken. So what if he has a girlfriend? Even Thomas Reed, who was married, could think of divorcing because of Sienna Thornton, so why worry when Rhonda Wagner only has a girlfriend?

Simon Forrester wasn’t afraid that Sienna Thornton would fall for someone else; he was confident in that regard. However, even if he was confident, if the partner developed feelings for Sienna Thornton, it would still cause a lot of unnecessary trouble.

Hmm, thinking about this, Simon Forrester felt it was even more necessary to have a chat with Rhonda Wagner.

When he knocked and entered, Rhonda Wagner was standing by the window, with one hand in his pocket, talking on the phone. He gestured for Simon to sit for a moment and audaciously discussed case details over the phone right in front of him.

Simon Forrester closed the door, walked over to the sofa area, and sat down. He crossed his long legs, rested one hand lightly on the sofa’s armrest, tapping his fingers rhythmically on the table, and surveyed Rhonda Wagner’s office.

The desk was piled with case files, some new and some old. A laptop was crookedly placed atop a stack of files, with a half-finished coffee and bottled water beside it.

The bookshelf was filled with various law-related books, but they were clearly not organized, with books placed haphazardly and unevenly. In one corner of the office, there was also a pile of miscellaneous materials.

The entire office gave the impression that its owner was a workaholic deeply engrossed in his work.

While Simon Forrester was observing all this, Rhonda Wagner was also paying attention to his movements.

Simon Forrester pointed at the bookshelf, asking with his gesture – May I take a look?

Rhonda Wagner nodded with a smile, and Simon Forrester slowly walked over to the bookshelf and started browsing.

Apart from various law books, the bookshelf also had a few books related to architectural and environmental design.

As Simon Forrester was looking at those books and contemplating, Rhonda Wagner hung up the phone, walked over to his side, and said with a smile, "Before becoming a lawyer, I was an environmental landscape designer."

Simon Forrester was surprised. "In that case, aren’t we kind of in the same industry?"

Rhonda Wagner chuckled and invited him to sit on the sofa while boiling water to prepare tea.

Simon Forrester offered him a cigarette, which he declined, so Simon started smoking himself.

"Your career change is quite significant," Simon Forrester noted. "For an outsider to pass the bar exam, it must take considerable courage and determination."

While Rhonda Wagner was warming the teaware, he said, "A few years ago, the woman I liked was arrested in the United States for murder. That was the original motivation for my career change."

In just a few words, he revealed a man’s deep and abiding love for another woman.

Simon Forrester’s smile faded. He quietly looked at Rhonda Wagner for a moment and probed, "First love?"

Rhonda Wagner nodded, pressing his lips together.

The man, experienced and adept at social events, showed a faint hint of embarrassment on his face at this moment.

"Did you end up together?" Simon Forrester asked.

"No," Rhonda Wagner replied with a bitter smile. "She got married."

"..."

With nothing more he could reasonably ask, Simon Forrester finished his cigarette and politely requested Rhonda Wagner to support Sienna Thornton on the job, then left his office.

Returning to Sienna Thornton’s place, she was sorting through case files. Seeing him come in, she asked, "Where did you go?"

He briefly explained his visit to Rhonda Wagner’s office.

Sienna Thornton laughed, teasing him for being so curious as to pry into someone’s first love. As she spoke, she was suddenly wrapped in a firm hug from behind.

Simon Forrester held her, sighing, "So many first loves don’t work out. Aren’t we lucky?"

"Lucky?" Sienna Thornton giggled. "We’re not even married; it’s not like we’ve achieved the ultimate goal."

"In spirit, we’re already a couple; we just don’t have the certificate yet."

His talk of being a "spiritual couple" made Sienna Thornton’s face instantly flush, her ears burning hot. She turned to embrace him, resting her face against his neck without speaking, lost in thought.

Simon Forrester gently patted her back and suggested, "How about going out for dinner tonight to celebrate your transition from ’Lawyer Thornton’ to ’Partner Thornton’?"

"Partner Thornton?" Sienna Thornton laughed heartily. "That sounds so awkward! ’Lawyer Thornton’ sounds much better."

"What’s so great about ’Lawyer Thornton’? ’Mrs. Forrester’ sounds nice."

Sienna Thornton blushed, pushing him away with a playful scold of "improper," then sat back at her position.

Simon Forrester also turned and sat on the sofa.

As Sienna Thornton organized the documents in her hands, she asked, "Tomorrow, Aurora and I will be attending the Forrester Group’s bid. Will you be there too?"

"Let me check tomorrow’s schedule." Simon Forrester glanced at his phone. "I have a meeting in the morning, but I should be able to squeeze in a visit before noon." 𝒻𝓇𝑒𝘦𝘸𝑒𝒷𝓃ℴ𝑣𝘦𝑙.𝒸ℴ𝘮

Sienna Thornton nodded. "Okay."

"Grandfather has already spoken to the Chief Operating Officer. You’re just going through the motions tomorrow, so don’t stress too much."

Sienna Thornton was serious as she checked her documents, "We still need to take it seriously. I want to see the gap between our firm and others."

Simon Forrester looked at her, and something occurred to him. "I heard Vantage is also participating in the bid this time."

Sienna Thornton paused, looked up at him, and thought for a moment before saying helplessly, "It’s like fate bringing old adversaries together. The day I went to Vantage for the handover, I had a fight with Lawyer Chandler from the International Department. If he shows up tomorrow, won’t it be awkward as heck?"

"Lawyer Chandler?" Simon Forrester repeated the name, recalling the middle-aged man he kicked and stomped on the wrist last year.

Remembering that incident where the man almost threw a mug at Sienna Thornton, Simon Forrester suddenly snapped to attention and sat up: "No way! I have to postpone my morning meeting to the afternoon. I’m going with you to the Forrester Group tomorrow morning!"

He said this while pulling out his phone to make a call, but Sienna Thornton swiftly stood up, snatched his phone, and stopped him, saying, "No, no, no, the Forrester Group has security. You tend to your business; don’t come and add to the chaos."

Simon Forrester didn’t agree immediately, instead frowning and staring into the space, lost in thought.

Sienna Thornton watched him remain silent for a while and then added, "If you’re really worried, I’ll have Lawyer Wagner go with us. With a man there, Lawyer Chandler won’t dare do anything to me."

As soon as she said this, Simon Forrester finally looked over, though his expression seemed less than pleased. Sure enough, the next moment, jealousy got the better of him, and he said resentfully, "You’re not taking your own man but another man?"

Sienna Thornton said, "I..."
