Our Love Story: Hard to Guard Against the Sudden Love Strike-Chapter 208 - 206: Tristan Thornton’s Flesh
Sienna Thornton felt as if she were watching a TV drama.
She never imagined that a low-key romance could suddenly turn into such a dramatic scene.
She was both amused and helpless, and after a long frozen moment, she finally laughed and said, "Auntie, you just said I’m not a simple person, so why...?"
"I don’t have time for idle chatter," Mrs. Forrester said, straightening her coat elegantly and tying her belt, "Name your price."
After speaking, she lifted her head with flair and scanned Sienna up and down again, contemptuously saying, "Be realistic, don’t ask for too much, I know you’re from Wrayhaven."
The implication being that people are categorized into different classes? Those from a poor county have less valuable lives?
Earlier, Sienna’s patience and kindness were based on the notion that Mrs. Forrester, although unpleasant in her speech and a bit foolish, wasn’t being malicious. But now, as Mrs. Forrester indirectly disparaged people from Wrayhaven, Sienna’s good temper was finally exhausted.
She looked at Mrs. Forrester and gave a faint smile: "I’m from Wrayhaven and not familiar with the market here. I can ask Cyrus later and get back to you?"
Her face still held a smile, but her gaze had turned a bit cold, and her tone lost any warmth or emotion.
When she mentioned telling Simon Forrester about it, Mrs. Forrester’s face flickered with unease, muttering a disgruntled "You don’t know what’s good," before grabbing her handbag and heading to the laundry room.
Sienna coldly glanced at the mother and son talking on the balcony, got up, and returned to the study, looking for a book on the shelf and sitting on the sofa to read.
She had just been disgusted by the soap opera-like drama and needed to absorb some scientific knowledge to wash away the discomfort in her heart.
Before long, Simon Forrester sneaked in, seeing her sitting on the sofa with a troubled face, and smilingly snuggled up next to her.
"What did my mom just say to you?" 𝗳𝐫𝚎𝗲𝚠𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝘃𝚎𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝗺
Sienna flipped a page of her book, her gaze lingering on the yellowed paper, slightly turning her face toward him and replied, "She asked how we divide the housework."
"And what did you say?"
"I said whoever has time does it."
Simon nodded, stretching out his legs, letting her rest on his legs as she read.
Sienna’s eyes were on the book, but her mind was still processing the not-so-serious confrontation she had with Mrs. Forrester earlier.
Thinking about how Mrs. Forrester looked down on her for being from a small place and even made her name a price, she found it both infuriating and amusing.
Of course, she didn’t plan to complain to Simon about this, because if she did, he’d surely go back to the old house to fight. Regardless of Mrs. Forrester being his biological mother, when he argued with family over her, it also made him uncomfortable.
In the end, it was Simon who would suffer.
Enough.
She flipped another page of her book.
Sienna scratched Simon’s hand resting on her waist, asking, "Your mom is indeed beautiful; I noticed her hands, so fair and tender. Her family must be quite wealthy?"
Simon responded by holding her small hand, smilingly saying, "My mom is from the coast. She studied fashion design in Brimfield and stayed there after graduation. Somehow she met my dad. My dad was crazy about her back in the day, even almost broke ties with my grandpa for her. My grandfather’s family is fairly decent, they’re in the shoe and clothing business."
In earlier years, many shoe and garment enterprises along the coast were transformed from family workshops, founded by down-to-earth business owners who were hardworking, not highly educated, and loved measuring everything with money.
Sienna immediately understood why Mrs. Forrester had set such bizarre conditions today and looked down on someone from a small place like her.
Indeed, people’s actions are always rooted in deeper internal factors.
With this realization, Sienna decided not to get angry with Mrs. Forrester anymore.
"What are you thinking?" Simon shook her hand.
She snapped out of it, tilted her head up at him, and pouted. He immediately bent down to kiss her.
After a while of kissing, he propped her up by her armpits, pulling her into his embrace, gently asking, "My mom must have said something outrageous to you, right?"
Sienna played with the stubble on his chin with a smile: "When I first met you, I thought your mom must be especially beautiful, hence why you’re so handsome."
Simon bit her finger, she dodged so he missed, so he kissed her cheek instead, pretending to scold: "Don’t change the subject!"
"Remember Mrs. Reed? If her words couldn’t hurt me, what could your mom possibly say to hurt me?"
Mentioning Mrs. Reed, Simon’s mood soured, his face immediately darkened: "Mrs. Reed’s words didn’t hurt you because you don’t like Thomas. But I know you like me, so I’m worried you’ll take my mom’s words to heart."
"Alas!" Sienna sat upright, raising her hand to rub his cheek, "You’re really a fool. I wouldn’t waste energy on people I don’t like; how could I possibly clash with the mother of someone I do like? Though I don’t have kids myself, I understand parental feelings. So rest assured."
With that, Simon was momentarily stunned, and a moment later, he hugged her tightly, helplessly saying: "Your reasoning is interesting. I feel we won’t have any mother-in-law issues in the future."
"Only if you manage to marry someone as considerate as me."
"Certainly, the one I’d marry is you."
"Who promised to marry you? Shameless..."
"With you, I can’t afford to be shameless..."
-
Mrs. Forrester reportedly left the apartment in tears.
Because that evening, while Simon Forrester and Sienna Thornton were deeply enmeshed on the study sofa, Simon received a call from Zane Forrester.
Zane asked Simon what had happened to Mrs. Forrester; she had left saying she’d visit her son, but returned home crying hysterically.
Simon declared his innocence: "She was all smiles when she left; how could she end up crying on her way back?"
Sienna sat on the sofa rolling her eyes, not wanting to hear more of this, so she put on her clothes and went back to the bedroom.
A minute later, Simon came in, holding his phone as if arguing with Zane on the other end. She heard him say, "Dad, I advise you to baby her less. You’ve spoiled her for over thirty years, doesn’t it tire you? Look at how it’s turned her! Crying all the time like some old lady, who is she ridiculing?"
Zane must have said something else, because Simon angrily replied: "Have her wait! I’ll go to the old house in the morning to explain everything face-to-face!"
Having said that, he instantly hung up the call.
Simon tossed the phone onto the footstool, rushed to open the window, and stood by it breathing heavily into the cold air.
Sienna worried he’d catch a cold, so she took his robe to drape over him, then hugged his waist from behind, softly asking: "What’s going on?"
"As soon as my mom got back, she cried to my dad, saying she saw us living together and can’t go on."
Sienna was so shocked, her jaw nearly dropped, speechless: "Your mom thinks you’re like Tristan Thornton, afraid I’ll devour you like some spider spirit."
"...Really, who’s devouring whom?"
