Oops Alpha, Wrong Luna-Chapter 19
Chapter 19: Chapter 19
Aria’s POV.
I jolted awake, my heart pounding like a drum in my chest, a tiny, scared voice whispering in my head. "Aria... Aria..."
It grew louder, sharper, until it was a scream that made my head throb. My eyes snapped open, my breath shaky, my hands gripping the sheets.
The room was dark, the only light a faint glow from the moon outside the curtains. I pressed my fingers to my temples, the ache in my head pulsing hard.
"Kyra, what’s wrong?" I asked, my voice rough in my mind.
"What do you want?" It was late, the Fang Pack’s guest house quiet, and Alpha Kael lay asleep beside me, his steady breathing the only sound. We should be sleeping too.
Kyra’s growl was panicked, her voice shaking. "We’re in trouble, Aria!" she said, her words fast, desperate. "Danger’s here. We need to leave. Right now!"
I sat up, my heart racing, my head spinning. "What do you mean, trouble?" I snapped, my voice sharp in my mind.
"It’s late, Kyra. Everyone’s asleep." But her fear was heavy, pressing on my chest, making it hard to breathe.
I tried to shake it off, to tell myself she was overreacting. We came to the Fang Pack for a reason—Kael’s deal, my plan to make him love me, to keep my place as his Luna even when he learned I wasn’t Celeste.
Running now would ruin everything.
"Unless they’re not, Aria," Kyra said, her voice low, scared. "Something’s wrong. I feel it. We’re not safe."
"What do you..." I started, but a distant noise cut me off; screams, faint but sharp, coming from outside the packhouse.
My stomach dropped, my skin prickling. I threw the blankets off and stormed to my feet, my bare feet cold on the wooden floor.
I rushed to the window, yanking the curtains open. My breath caught, my eyes widening.
Outside, pack members were gathered in the courtyard, their faces pale, their voices loud with fear.
Torches flickered, causing shadows, and then I looked up. The guest house; our guest house was burning.
Flames licked the roof, orange and red, eating the wood, smoke curling thick into the night sky.
My heart stopped instantly.
"No," I whispered, my voice shaking. I spun around, running to the door, my silver gown from last night tangling around my legs.
I grabbed the handle and yanked, hard, but it wouldn’t move. I pulled again, my hands shaking, my breath coming fast.
"Open!" I shouted, my voice cracking, but the door stayed shut, like someone had locked it on purpose.
Panic clawed at my chest, Kyra growling loud, her fear mixing with mine. "Kael!" I yelled, rushing to the bed where he slept, his dark hair messy, his face calm. fгeewёbnoѵel_cσm
I shook his shoulder, hard. "Kael, wake up!"
His eyes snapped open, his body tensing. "What’s wrong?" he asked, his voice rough, his onyx eyes sharp as they locked on mine.
He sat up, his shirt wrinkled, his hand grabbing my arm.
"The guest house is burning!" I said, my voice high, panicked.
"The door’s locked, we can’t get out!" My words tumbled out, my hands shaking as I pointed to the door.
Smoke was starting to seep under it, a thin, gray haze that stung my nose.
Kael jumped out of bed, his face hard, his movements fast. He tried the door, yanking it with his full strength, but it didn’t budge.
"Damn it," he growled, his jaw tight. He turned to me, his eyes fierce.
"Stay back, Luna." His voice was calm but strong, like he could fix this.
I stepped back, my heart pounding, my head throbbing worse than ever. Kyra was screaming now, her voice loud in my mind.
"We’re trapped! I told you, Aria! We’re in danger!"
Kael’s eyes glowed, his wolf stirring, and he shifted in a flash, his body rippling into Zeus, his massive black wolf form.
His fur gleamed in the dim light, his muscles bunching as he charged the door. He hit it once, twice, three times, his growls shaking the room.
The wood splintered, the lock snapping, and the door flew open, smoke pouring in. My eyes stung, my throat burning as I coughed, the air thick and hot.
Kael shifted back, his human form sweaty, his shirt torn. He grabbed me, pulling me close, his arm strong around my waist.
"Stay with me," he said, his voice rough, coughing as he led me into the hallway.
The smoke was thicker now, the heat intense, the walls creaking like they’d collapse any second.
Flames licked the ceiling, wood cracking, falling in burning chunks. My heart raced, my legs shaky as I clung to Kael, his grip tight, protective.
We stumbled through the hall, the smoke choking us, the fire roaring louder. A beam cracked above, falling fast, and I froze, my breath catching.
Kael moved faster, shoving me out of the way, taking the hit on his shoulder. He grunted, pain flashing across his face, but he didn’t stop, pulling me forward.
"Keep moving!" he growled, his voice hoarse, his arm bleeding where the wood had hit.
Tears stung my eyes, not just from the smoke. Guilt hit me hard, like a punch. Kyra had warned me, begged me to leave, and I hadn’t listened.
Now Kael was hurt, maybe worse, because of me. "I’m sorry," I whispered, my voice breaking, but he didn’t hear, his focus on the exit, his arm tight around me.
Three guards burst through the smoke, their faces grim, their armor glinting. "Alpha Kael!" one shouted, grabbing his arm.
"This way!" They led us through the hall, dodging falling debris, the fire roaring behind us.
My lungs burned, my eyes watering, but Kael’s grip never wavered, his strength keeping me upright.
We stumbled out into the courtyard, the cool night air hitting my face like a slap. I coughed, gasping, my legs weak as I leaned against Kael.
A loud boom shook the ground, and I turned, my eyes wide. The guest house exploded in flames, the roof collapsing, sparks flying into the sky.
Pack members screamed, some running, others staring, their faces pale with fear. I stood there, my heart pounding, staring at the burning building.
It was gone, swallowed by fire, and we’d barely made it out. Kyra’s voice was quiet now, but her warning echoed in my head. I should’ve listened. I’d almost gotten Kael killed.
Kael sank to the ground, his arm bleeding, his face pale but hard. He coughed, his hand still on mine, and I knelt beside him, my gown dirty, my hands shaking.
"Kael," I said, my voice small, tears burning my eyes.
"I’m so sorry." Guilt choked me, my chest tight. If I’d told him about Kyra’s warning earlier, maybe we wouldn’t be here, maybe he wouldn’t be hurt.
Before he could answer, a hand grabbed my arm, yanking me to my feet. I spun around, my breath catching, and froze.
Alpha Nicholas stood there, his silver-streaked hair glinting in the firelight, his dark eyes locked on me. His smile was soft, but it felt wrong, like a mask.
My heart raced, my wrist stinging where he held me. I tried to pull away, my voice shaky. "Let go," I said, bowing quickly. "Alpha Nicholas."
He didn’t let go, his grip firm, his smile widening. "I’m glad you’re okay, Luna," he said, his voice smooth, his hand reaching for my face.
My stomach twisted, Kyra growling low, sensing danger.
Kael was on his feet in a flash, his hand shooting out, grabbing Nicholas’s wrist, stopping him cold.
His eyes were dark, burning with anger, his growl low and dangerous. I held my breath, expecting him to yell, to tear into Nicholas for touching me.
But his next words shocked me, hitting like a bolt.
"Why aren’t you burnt when you stayed in the guest house too?"
