Only I Cultivate-Chapter 28: Nurses’ Resting Area
Chapter 28: Nurses’ Resting Area
After leaving the ghost-related injuries wing, they continued searching for the nurses' resting area or where the drugs were stored. This time, Wu Yunru's luck wasn't as effective—ten minutes had passed, and they still hadn't found it.
The only thing they kept running into was waves of ghost slaves.
"Come on, Wu Yunru, put that ability of yours to work!" Feng Fan said.
Wu Yunru shot him a glare. "How am I supposed to control it?"
Just as he said that, a scream echoed from the hallway next to them.
"HELP! HELP!"
Luo Li reacted instantly, dashing toward the source of the voice. A female nurse was trying to escape from two ghost slaves. She was the first living person who wasn't a Hunter they had seen since the hospital turned into a ghost zone.
Before the ghost slaves could reach her, Luo Li intercepted them, throwing a flurry of jabs that stopped them in their tracks.
Feng Fan rushed to the nurse's side, holding her trembling shoulders. "Are you okay?"
"I-I'm fine... thank you," she stammered, shaking like a flag in a storm.
After finishing off the ghost slaves, Luo Li approached the nurse. "Where is the nurses' resting area?"
The source of this c𝐨ntent is freёnovelkiss.com.
Feng Fan sighed internally. 'Luo Li might be great at handling ghosts, but dealing with people... not so much.'
"I-I..." The nurse, still in shock, struggled to respond, making Luo Li frown.
"Don't worry, just breathe," Feng Fan said gently, taking her hand in reassurance. "You're safe now. We won't let anything happen to you, okay?"
Luo Li looked displeased but remained silent, waiting. After a few minutes, the nurse finally calmed down enough to speak.
"This is really important," Luo Li said, her tone firm. "We need to know where the nurses' resting area is and where the medicine is stored."
The nurse nodded quickly. "I can take you there... just please don't leave me alone."
Feng Fan gave her a calm smile. "That won't happen. We'll stick together, find the one responsible for this, and kill him."
With Luo Li, the strongest among them, guarding the nurse, they followed her through the hospital's dark corridors. The number of ghost slaves seemed to be increasing by the minute, attacking relentlessly as they pushed forward.
"Did you guys notice... the closer we get to the nurses' resting area, the darker it gets, and the more ghost slaves appear?" Feng Fan pointed out.
The hallway was getting harder to navigate, not because the ghost slaves were stronger, but because of their sheer numbers and the overwhelming darkness. The nurse flinched, while the others' expressions grew more serious.
"You're right," Shao Xiaowen said. "That means we're getting closer to the ghost's real body."
They kept moving, but Feng Fan's unease grew. They were burning through their spiritual energy while their enemy remained hidden in the shadows, watching. Meanwhile, they were fully exposed.
He glanced at Luo Li and, for the first time since they arrived, noticed her slightly ragged breathing. He reached for her arm.
"Luo Li, stop attacking. Let us handle the ghost slaves. Save your strength, you're the strongest among us."
Luo Li felt heat rush to her cheeks. Avoiding his gaze, she gave a silent nod
After a few more minutes, they finally arrived.
"I-It's there," the nurse said, pointing at a door guarded by two ghost slaves.
But these weren't ordinary ghost slaves. They were former Hunters.
One had been a D-rank Hunter in life, the other an E-rank. The D-rank Hunter was missing an arm, while the E-rank was bald.
"I'll take care of them," Luo Li said, spiritual energy crackling around her fists.
"No!" Feng Fan grabbed her shoulder. "Let us handle them. Trust us, Luo Li. We've got your back."
Luo Li flinched at his touch. 'They... have my back?'
When was the last time someone had said that to her? Before the ghost bride's curse had marked her cheek, her family had been cold and unloving. After becoming a Hunter, everyone kept their distance because of her curse.
"...Okay," she muttered weakly.
The energy around her fists faded as she stepped back. Feng Fan, Wu Yunru, and Shao Xiaowen stepped forward.
Luo Li stared at Feng Fan's broad back, feeling an unfamiliar warmth in her chest.
'H-He's just an F-rank Hunter. What am I thinking? I'm much stronger than him.'
Yet, for some reason, her cheeks felt warm. She convinced herself it was just the stress of the situation.
"Shao Xiaowen, you take the one-armed guy. Wu Yunru, handle the bald one with me," Feng Fan ordered.
Though Shao Xiaowen felt a bit strange taking orders from a newcomer, he couldn't deny Feng Fan was right. He gave a short nod in response.
As they closed in, the one-armed ghost slave attacked first. His ability was speed—three times faster than a normal D-rank Hunter.
Before Shao Xiaowen could react, a fist shot toward his face. He hadn't expected such speed, and before he could raise his defenses, the punch landed, breaking his nose.
But Shao Xiaowen wasn't an experienced fighter for nothing. The moment he was hit, he grabbed onto the ghost slave's hospital gown with his right hand.
His left arm tensed under the cast, and dark brown scales burst through, shattering the plaster. With his now-reinforced arm, he threw a punch, aiming to crush the ghost slave's head.
Yet, despite being held, the ghost slave twisted his body with inhuman agility, narrowly dodging the attack. Then, with a sharp yank, he slipped out of the hospital gown and darted away—completely naked.
Shao Xiaowen narrowed his eyes, letting the empty gown slip from his fingers.
"...Fast bastard."
While Shao Xiaowen fought the one-armed ghost slave, Wu Yunru and Feng Fan weren't standing idly by.
Unlike the other, the bald ghost slave didn't charge at them. Instead, he remained by the door, launching attacks from a distance.
With each punch, condensed air formed into cannonball-like projectiles, hurtling toward Wu Yunru. The dim lighting made them nearly invisible.
Yet, by sheer luck, Wu Yunru sidestepped at the perfect moment—only for the two air blasts to fly straight toward Feng Fan.
