One Night Stand With Alexander Blackwood-Chapter 87 — Eighty-seven
When the car pulled up into the garage of Alexander’s home, Serena heaved a sigh of relief.
"I’m sorry I didn’t tell you about my whereabouts." After a few seconds of hesitating and deliberating within herself, she apologized. "I shouldn’t have made you worried especially after what happened.
Alexander turned slightly to her. He picked her hand. "I’m also sorry for being inconsiderate. It’s just..." he paused, with his free hand, he ran a hand through his hair.
"...I’m worried. For you. I have a lot of enemies and they know about you. They might decide to hurt you just to get to me. And I don’t want you to be caught in the midst of old grudges."
Serena listened to him quietly. She knew that Alexander had a lot of enemies. She just didn’t know that it was this... bad.
"Serena, let’s get married." Alexander suddenly said, startling her. He didn’t notice the way her eyes went wide as he continued. "If we get married, then you’ll be under my protection. No one will dare hurt you."
"Alex—"
"Your safety is of utmost importance. I don’t want to risk it. I—"
"Shh." She interrupted him by placing a finger on his lips to stop him from rambling.
"I know you are doing it for me. But..." she paused, her eyes meeting his. "Don’t you think that this feels rushed? We haven’t even gotten to know each other properly. Getting married now... is not just feasible."
"But—"
"No buts. If you are worried about my safety, then you can always find another alternative." Serena explained to him quietly.
Alexander stared at her for a while and his heart twisted. She didn’t understand. Being with him already made her a target. He could have let her go, no strings attached.
But he didn’t dare lose her. Even when he knew the consequences of getting involved with a woman, he decided to enter a relationship with her.
They might not have publicised it, but his enemies had a wide expanse of network. They should have known now... just like his grandfather.
He exhaled internally. He would do everything to protect her, even if it meant dying.
They exited the car and walked into the house. Once they were in the living room, Serena collapsed to the sofa. She rubbed her throbbing temple, her face contorting into a frown.
Alexander noticed. "Do you need a massage?"
Serena nodded absentmindedly. She didn’t know when she was hit with such a severe headache, especially when she didn’t feel it in the bar, on the road or even in the car.
Alexander went to her back, and placed his two hands on her temple.
"You haven’t had dinner, right?" He asked as he smoothly moved his hands around her temple, helping her relieve her pain.
Serena involuntarily moaned. Alexander paused for a split second before he resumed.
"Hmm? Have you had dinner?" He repeated his question.
"No..." She replied, her voice trembling. "Did you learn this? How are you this good?" She asked,.hoping to change the topic.
"I always give my... mother a massage when she is tired while growing up." At the mention of Grace, he hesitated as a bitter taste appeared in his mouth.
Serena was silent for a while before she spoke up. "Alexander, that’s enough. Come have a seat beside me." She patted the space beside her.
"Are you sure?" He asked tentatively.
"I’m okay now." She nodded repeatedly. "Just come and have a seat."
Alexander studied her for a while before he took a seat.
She turned to face him, and took his hands into his. "Alexander, I know you’ve always had a good relationship with your mom. Don’t ruin that because of me. At the end of the day, she’s still your mom and would always be."
Alexander’s eyes softened seeing how she wanted him to make amends with his mom. But how could he? Matters were so complicated, he didn’t know how he would face it.
"Serena," he started. "I want to let you know that you are not the reason for the strained relationship between my mom and I." He assured her.
"But—"
"No buts." He cut her off. "You must be famished. I’ll prepare a light dinner for you. And oh," he narrowed his eyes to look at her. "How much did you have to drink? You are not done with your meds."
Serena smiled sheepishly, raising all five fingers on her right hand.
"Are you sure?" He pressed.
Serena crossed her arms around her chest. "Don’t you believe me?"
"It’s not that I don’t believe you. But your actions lately," he didn’t complete his statement, but they both knew what he was referring to.
Serena glared at him. "I’m famished. Go prepare me dinner. You do not trust your girlfriend. Don’t stay beside me." She tried to push him off the sofa, but Alexander sat rooted on the sofa.
Serena exhausted her strength, and gave up. "I just realised." She started, breathing heavily. "I won’t be able to win a fight against a grown man. Does that mean I have to rely on external help when I’m in danger? Sometimes, I wish I was like Maya. She’s a 5th Dan black-belter."
Serena unconsciously let it slip.
"Maya? Unbelievable." Alexander’s tone carried the right amount of disbelief. He found Serena’s words to be incredulous.
"I’m serious." Serena tried to explain. "Have you seen her fight a grown man? She could knock him to the ground with just a few moves. I, on the other hand, have to wait while I play the damsel in distress." She sighed at the end of her words.
"Do you want to get strong?" Alexander asked and Serena nodded immediately. "Then, training starts tomorrow. You can’t afford to be late."
He didn’t wait for her reply before he walked to the kitchen, leaving Serena rooted in her seat while she remained in shock.
About thirty minutes later, Alexander was done with dinner, and the couple gathered round the dining table.
"Wow, this looks delicious." Serena rubbed her hands as she excitedly picked up her cutlery. But then she noticed something, it was only one serving.
"Hey, aren’t you having dinner?" She tilted her head, and asked him.
"I feel full just by watching you eat." Alexander replied without thinking.
Serena, on the other hand, had her cheeks turn red as she blushed heavily.
"You..." she trailed off, having no words to say as she began eating just to avoid meeting his eyes.
When Serena was almost done, Alexander spoke up..
"We are seeing my grandfather tomorrow." He informed.
Serena dropped her cutlery, as her eyes bulged in shock.
"You didn’t tell me about it." She whisper--yelled.
"I’m telling you now, aren’t I?" He asked, his voice carrying a teasing tone.
Serena gave him a pointed stare and he laughed.
"What does your Grandfather like? I met him the last time, and he is genuinely the best old person I’ve met in my entire life."
Alexander nodded with a smile. His grandfather was a nice person.
"You don’t have to get anything. My grandfather doesn’t lack anything." He said.
"But—"
"You don’t have to stress about something which is not of significance." He cut her off, and wiped her lips as their gazes met.
Serena froze when she felt his finger on her lips. She swallowed. She could see the way his Adam’s apple moved.
He withdrew instantly. "Don’t get anything for him."
Serena nodded as she returned to her meal. Officially meeting Alexander’s grandfather would open a new dimension.
But the big question was, was she ready for this? She will find out tomorrow.
