One Night Stand With Alexander Blackwood-Chapter 78 — Seventy-eight
When Alexander returned home, Serena was still sleeping. He heaved a sigh of relief as he lay beside her.
Looking at the peaceful expression on his face, his expression tightened. Exhaling, he took hold of her hand.
"I won’t let anyone hurt you. This is my promise to you." He planted a kiss on the back of her hand as a complicated expression flashed across his face.
"I know you’ll do as you promised." Serena’s light voice resounded causing Alexander to widen his eyes slightly.
"You are awake." He muttered as he helped her sit up.
"Hmm." She nodded. "I woke up when I heard the door creak open."
She turned to him with a soft smile on her face. "Why do you have such a complicated expression on your face?"
Alexander was about to say something when Serena cut in again.
"Is there anything wrong with the company? Are you facing any problems? You know you can tell me your problems, right?"
"Shh!" He placed a finger on her lips, stopping her ramblings. "Would you let me speak?" He asked her calmly.
Confusion flashed through her face but she still nodded.
"We’ve found the man responsible for Mama’s death." Alexander stated calmly..
Her eyes grew wide with surprise and disbelief. "Are you for real?" She asked him, taking hold of his hands while her gaze remained on him.
Alexander noticed that her hands were shaking and he patted them calmly. "This is the truth."
Serena heaved a sigh of relief, but Alexander’s next words shocked her.
"He wasn’t working alone, but rather on the orders of someone."
His eyes bore into hers while he hoped that his next words won’t come as a shock to her.
"Who was it?" She asked calmly, but her heart raced internally. 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝓮𝒘𝙚𝙗𝒏𝙤𝙫𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝒐𝙢
"Rhea." Alexander answered. He explained everything, leaving out that he paid a visit to Rhea earlier.
When he was done, she froze, neither did she flinch. It was as if the truth had turned her to stone. Anger crept in slowly, cold and suffocating, wrapping itself around her grief until the ache became unbearable.
Alexander watched her varying expression and his heart twisted. He felt guilty, if not by action but by... proximity.
His mind replayed what Rhea had said over and over, and he closed his eyes deeply. Rhea’s actions were undeniably unjustifiable. But it was still a fact that she did it ’because of him.’
"Alex..." Serena called out, snapping him out of his thoughts. He saw her wet eyes, and his body trembled.
"You can cry if you want to." He whispered. His words were all it took. She leaned into him, and burst into tears, sobbing loudly.
"Why did she have to do this? Why?" She cried, her tears staining Alexander’s suit. "She killed the last person who I cared about." She whimpered, her shoulders trembling dangerously.
"Cry it all out." Alexander patted her back with one hand, and the other clenched. "When you are done, you can choose what punishment you want to give the culprits. I’ll always support your decisions."
Hearing his words made Serena cry more loudly. Alexander stayed by her side, patting her till she stopped crying.
When she was done, she pulled away from him. Her eyes were swollen and red, while her face was pale.
"I will support whatever you choose to do." Alexander said quietly.
"Even if it means killing her? I want to kill her." Serena’s eyes glinted dangerously. Alexander froze... just for a second before he regained his composure. This was the first time he was seeing such a dangerous look in her eyes.
"You don’t need to dirty your hands. Even if you want to kill her, let me do it for you." He said with a soft smile.
Serena was taken aback by his statement. She was expecting a hundred and one reactions from him, but not this.
"Surprised?" He asked with a chuckle.
She nodded. "She is still your ex after all. You both shared an intimate relationship."
Alexander smiled and took her hands into his. "I have told you this countless times. I will always support you. The past is the past. You are my future, and I’ve said that anyone who hurts you or tries to hurt will have to face my wrath."
His words were firm, his eyes fierce with determination and protectiveness.
Serena’s heart warmed seeing him this way. "Why are you so good to me?" She asked softly.
"Silly." He poked her forehead, and pulled her into his arms. "Isn’t it obvious? It’s because I love you."
"I love you as well." Serena answered quietly, and Alexander’s lips curled up with satisfaction.
"Tell me, what do you plan to? The murderer is in custody, but the mastermind is still roaming around peacefully."
Serena was silent for a while as she contemplated her next course of actions.
"I’ll press charges against the murderer." She started. Alexander’s brows creased. "And Rhea?"
A mischievous expression appeared on her face. "Wouldn’t it be easy to give her an easy punishment? What’s that one thing she cares about most?" Serena asked with a smirk dancing at the corner of her lips.
"Her reputation?" Alexander replied, confusion laced in his tone.
"We target that first. Her fall will be more brutal when her reputation is ruined." Serena’s smile widened ada though she could already picture how Rhea would react.
Alexander was silent for a while as he looked at her. "I didn’t know you had such a side to you."
Serena flipped her hair in a sassy manner. "There’s more."
"We could totally go with your plan. What do you plan to do?" He asked quietly..
"For now, let her think I’m too scared to do a thing. She will let her guard down, I just know it." Serena’s fingers tightened around Alexander’s hands.
Recalling how she met Mama lying in a pool of her own blood filled her with a hatred she couldn’t quite place her finger on. She had never wished evil on anyone... Rhea was the first.
She wanted to see the latter suffer, just as Mama might have suffered before she passed.
Alexander looked at the silent Serena, and his eyes flashed with pride. Even if Serena decided not to do anything against Rhea, that didn’t mean he would sit down idly.
Rhea was going to get what was coming to her.
The game had finally begun.
Who would come out on top? It wasn’t clear yet. Only the one with the higher power would be the winner.
