One Night Stand With Alexander Blackwood-Chapter 76 — Seventy-six
"Do you know why you’re here?" Alexander asked at last, his voice low and even.
The man hesitated, then answered. "I—I already told the officers everything I know. You can’t get anything from me even if you tried."
Alexander smiled faintly.
"No," he said. "You told them what you wanted them to hear. Now, you’ll tell me what I need to know."
He leaned forward slightly, resting his forearms on the table. The flickering light caught his eyes, making them glint sharply.
"I’m not here to listen to lies," Alexander continued calmly. "I’m here to peel them off you. It could be slow. It could be torturous but I’d ensure I peel them off you."
The man’s breathing quickened. There was no doubt that Alexander would do just as he had said. It wasn’t just a threat... it was a promise.
Alexander tapped the table once. The sound which echoes was final and absolute.
"So," he said softly, "let’s begin again. And this time," his eyes narrowed, "don’t try to insult my intelligence."
The door behind them closed with a heavy clang leaving behind the suspect and Alexander in the cold room.
And finally... the real interrogation began.
----------------------
After a grueling thirty minute interrogation, Alexander finally stepped out. This time, his expression was stormy and the officers who stood outside swallowed.
Michael, the only brave one approached him.
"Mr. Blackwood, have you gotten your answer?" He asked tentatively..
Alexander nodded. "I have somewhere to be. I’ll be in touch soon."
Without waiting for a reply, Alexander directly walked out, leaving behind baffled officers.
"Mr. Blackwood looks angry. Do you think the suspect later spoke?" One officer approached Michael whose gaze still remained on Alexander.
"I have a feeling that this is just a bigger conspiracy and the suspect in there is just a pawn in rich peoples games." Michael remarked.
Confusion flashed through his colleague’s eyes. "What’ do you mean by a bigger plot?"
"Dear friend, you won’t understand." Michael patted his shoulder. "Let’s return to work."
Under the officer’s confused expression, Michael walked into the interrogation room, but what he saw made him widen his eyes in surprise.
"Get a doctor! Now!" He ordered loudly. The interrogation room descended into chaos.
Meanwhile, Alexander didn’t know that chaos had ensued after he left. Rather, he sat in his car, his hands tightened around the steering wheel.
"Rhea..." He muttered, his gaze darkening. "I really underestimated how low you’d stoop."
Just then, his phone buzzed, snapping him out of his thoughts. It was a call. He took a deep breath, then picked the call.
"Boss, I’ve done what you asked me to."
"Results?" Alexander demanded, calmly tapping his fingers on the steering wheel.
The person on the other end answered, "it has been sent to you." Then he hesitated before he added. "You might be surprised to see what’s there."
Alexander scoffed. "I’ve been hit with a lot of surprises today. What other surprise could I get? Anyways, thank you." He said and disconnected the call.
He went straight to his email, and clicked on the top message. His eyes scanned through it and when he was finally done, he burst into laughter.
"Great! Just great." He applauded, throwing his phone to the back seat. "I was in a relationship with you for three years, and I never realized how cruel and ruthless you could be."
"Oh, Rhea, you surprise me." He chuckled at the end of his statement. Without any hesitation, he drove out of the station.
Alexander drove fast... and rough, bypassing all traffic signals.
In about twenty minutes, he arrived at Rhea’s home. He was just in time to see her driving out, and he directly blocked her path.
Rhea, on the other hand, was miffed that her path had been obstructed. She stepped out of her car, and walked to the car.
When she was about to raise her hand to knock on the window so she could lash out, Alexander opened the window.
She paused in her actions as she stared at him. "You’re here. What are you doing here?" She demanded, a trace of panic flashing through her eyes.
Alexander didn’t say anything. He studied her face for a while. He wanted to see if he was blind in the years he spent with her.
But what he didn’t know was that the more he remained silent, the more fear eroded Rhea’s heart. She had been trying to reach her subordinate, but all efforts proved futile.
She had just been on her way to visit him only to be stopped by Alexander. Perhaps it was because she had been targeting Serena, a feeling of guilty conscience overwhelmed her.
Alexander opened the car’s door, and stepped out in all his glory. Rhea took a step back. Alexander’s expression was devoid of a smile. And the look... the look in his eyes were enough to freeze someone to death.
Rhea gathered what was left of her courage and questioned him. "Why are you here? I thought you didn’t want to see me again. What? Changed your mind? Serena couldn’t satisfy you?"
She felt a bitter taste on her tongue as she mentioned Serena’s name, her boldness soaring. "Would she be happy if you are here?"
Alexander watched her speak, and he scoffed. "You are not that special to be visited. Your fans might like the version of the self you show them, but I’m not one of your brain-dead fans."
Rhea gasped. She never expected Alexander to be this brutal with his words.
"Alexander!" She yelled, her eyes wide as though she was about to fight with him. "You don’t have any right to say such things about me or my fans."
Rhea straightened her back, forcing composure she no longer possessed.
"Why are you staring at me like that?" she snapped. "If you are here to insult me, you can turn around and leave."
Alexander finally moved. Every step felt deliberate, like a countdown.
"Do you know what your mistake was?" he asked calmly.
Rhea frowned. "I don’t know what game you’re playing—"
"You assumed I would never look beyond the surface," Alexander interrupted. "You thought money, influence, and a few disposable pawns would bury the truth forever. You thought that you could make someone else take the fall, didn’t you?"
Her fingers curled tightly at her sides. "You’re speaking in riddles."
Alexander tilted his head slightly, studying her. "The suspect finally talked. I know you know who I’m talking about."
Her breath caught in her throat, only for a second.
But Alexander caught it.
"You think you could stay protected for a long time, didn’t you? Pushing the attention away from you? You sure are bold, Rhea." He scoffed.
"I don’t know what you are talking about." She shook her head, eager to deny the truth vehemently.
"Is that so?" Alexander snorted, walked to his car. A few seconds later, he returned, but not empty-handed this time. 𝚏𝕣𝐞𝗲𝐰𝕖𝐛𝐧𝕠𝕧𝚎𝚕.𝐜𝚘𝗺
"Is this enough proof to show that you know what I’m talking about?" He threw several papers at her.
Rhea’s eyes caught one, and her eyes widened in disbelief and horror.
It was all over. She thought to herself. The truth had been discovered.
