On the Day I Was Kicked Out of the Wealthy Family, I Had a Flash Marriage with a Tycoon-Chapter 37: Surprised?
"As long as you stop hurting Esther and her friends, I want nothing more to do with you!" Rose Lynch’s voice was cold and merciless.
Chloe Sterling’s fists clenched at her sides, her expression hardening. "If you dare to provoke me, you will pay the price!" Her sharp gaze fixed on Rose Lynch as she added, "And that goes for anyone!"
"You..."
Without giving her another chance to speak, Chloe Sterling turned and walked away.
Behind her, Rose Lynch yelled angrily, "Chloe Sterling, what do you mean by that! Are you threatening me?"
Chloe Sterling walked out of the parking lot with long strides, never looking back.
Rose Lynch’s face was livid. When she saw Director Xavier’s car pull in, she immediately walked over.
Director Xavier had just gotten out of his car when he saw Rose Lynch approaching, and he frowned slightly.
"Hello, Director Xavier. I’m Rose Lynch."
"Is there something I can help you with, Ms. Lynch?" Director Xavier’s tone was indifferent.
Rose Lynch got straight to the point. "Director Xavier, you may not be aware, but my daughter, Chloe Sterling, managed to get into The Medical College through her connection with Young Master Xavier. I hope you can intervene in this matter. Chloe is not suited for a place like this."
Director Xavier replied, "I know Chloe is at The Medical College. It was I who sincerely invited her to join us."
Hearing this, Rose Lynch looked utterly shocked. "What! You invited her? How is that possible? She only picked up a few rudimentary skills in the countryside. How could she get into The Medical College? What could she possibly do?"
Director Xavier’s expression darkened, and his voice grew a few shades colder. "It seems you know nothing about your own daughter, Ms. Lynch. Chloe has an exceptionally high aptitude for pharmacology. She is participating in a crucial research project at The Medical College. No one is more suited to be here than she is."
Rose Lynch was struck dumb. After a long moment, she could only stammer, "That... that’s impossible!"
"I have a meeting soon. If there’s nothing else, Ms. Lynch, I’ll be going." With a cold look on his face, Director Xavier strode away.
Rose Lynch stood frozen in place, unable to process what she’d just heard for a long time.
’So Chloe didn’t get into The Medical College through her connection with Julian Xavier after all. She was invited by Director Xavier himself, and she’s supposedly exceptionally talented!’
’How could this be?’ 𝑓𝘳𝘦𝑒𝑤𝑒𝘣𝘯ℴ𝘷𝘦𝓁.𝑐𝑜𝑚
But when she recalled Chloe Sterling’s attitude toward her just now, as well as her status, Rose Lynch’s expression turned cold once more.
’So what if she is? With her background and pedigree, she’ll never have a truly bright future. Spending her whole life in a lab is meaningless anyway.’
’My Esther is so much better. Elegant and poised, playing the piano and painting—that’s what a true lady from a prestigious family should be like.’
’She has a bright future ahead of her.’
Chloe Sterling was busy in the lab all morning. In the afternoon, she went to the martial arts gym.
The owner, Chase Langdon, was drinking tea in the break room. He was a little surprised to see Chloe Sterling walk in and greeted her with a wide grin, "Chloe! What brings you here?"
Chloe Sterling sat down beside him and, without any ceremony, poured herself a cup of tea. She took a small sip before saying, "It’s been a while since I got to move around, so I came to stretch my legs."
"Did you schedule a session with a student?" Chase Langdon asked.
"Nope." Chloe took another sip of tea.
"Then who are you going to spar with?"
Chloe turned her head to look at him. "You!"
"..." Chase Langdon refused flatly. "Nope. I’ve got things to do later."
Chloe rested her chin on her hand and said casually, "Senior Brother, Master told you to take good care of me."
That’s right—Chase Langdon was her senior apprentice brother.
They had studied under the same master back in the countryside, but Chase had only learned martial arts, not medicine.
The corner of Chase Langdon’s mouth twitched. "So now you remember to call me ’Senior Brother’ when you want something from me?"
Chloe Sterling blinked, feigning innocence. "But you are my senior brother."
Chase Langdon chuckled, his eyes glinting shrewdly as he studied her. "You didn’t come here today just to spar with me, did you? Tell me the truth. What’s up?"
"There’s nothing else. It’s just been a long time since I’ve sparred with you, Senior Brother. I wanted to see if I’ve gotten rusty." Chloe’s expression was calm. After a pause, she added, "Besides, I know you’re free today."
Chase Langdon: "..."
A moment later, the two of them headed to a private training area where they wouldn’t be disturbed.
Chloe Sterling and Chase Langdon were evenly matched. They sparred for over a hundred rounds without a clear winner, until both of them collapsed to the ground in exhaustion.
Chloe lay on the soft mat, staring silently at the ceiling. Chase, lying a few feet to her left, said casually, "So you were in a bad mood after all."
"I’m not," Chloe denied.
Chase snorted. "Like I don’t know you. You’ve been this way since we were kids, always bottling everything up inside and using a good fight to blow off steam."
Chloe remained silent.
Chase pressed on. "So what is it? Who’s been giving you a hard time? Was it that Song woman? Did our little scare not work, and now she’s bothering you again?"
"No, it’s not her. She’s already left."
"Then who was it? Tell me, and I’ll go teach them a lesson for you!"
Chloe managed a small smile. "Really, it’s nothing. I just suddenly missed my Senior Brother, so I came to see you."
Chase raised an eyebrow at her. "Yeah, right. Now that you have that Jasper Lockwood, I bet you’ve all but forgotten you even have a senior brother."
Chloe: "..."
"Chloe, Jasper Lockwood is no saint. From what I can tell, he’s not much different from Silas Coldwell. You need to think carefully about being with him."
Chloe retorted instinctively, "He’s nothing like Silas Coldwell."
Chase chuckled. "You’re right, they’re not the same. You like him, so of course he’s different."
Just as Chloe was about to speak, he cut her off. "Don’t even try to deny it. If you didn’t like him, why would you suddenly marry him? There are other ways to repay a debt of gratitude besides marrying the person."
Chloe pressed her lips together, saying nothing. Chase didn’t know the full story of what had happened between her and Jasper Lockwood, only that they had suddenly gotten married.
Chase stood up. "Come on, let’s go get something to eat."
Chloe executed a perfect kip-up to get to her feet, and the two of them left the gym together.
"What are you in the mood for?" Chase asked.
Chloe’s gaze landed on a hot pot restaurant across the street. "Hot pot. The spicy red chili oil kind."
Chase’s lips curved into a smile. "Let’s go."
It was still early, so the hot pot restaurant wasn’t very crowded. They found a quiet table and sat down.
Chase called over a waiter and ordered the spicy red chili oil broth. They both loved spicy food—the kind of people who felt a meal was incomplete without a fiery kick.
They were about halfway through ordering the rest of their food when a familiar figure approached and sat down right next to Chloe.
Chloe looked up in surprise. "Silas Coldwell! What are you doing here?"
Silas Coldwell gave her a wicked smile. "I’m back. Surprised?"
Chloe: "..."
Silas’s gaze, now distinctly unfriendly, shifted to Chase across the table. "Baby, who’s this man?"
Chloe’s expression soured. "Silas, I told you not to call me that. And who he is is none of your business!"
Facing such a notorious international figure, Chase remained remarkably polite. He offered a slight smile. "Mr. Coldwell, hello."
Silas Coldwell raised an eyebrow. "You know who I am?"
"Who doesn’t know the infamous president of the Nocturne Group?"
Silas chuckled. "Fair enough. So, what’s your relationship with Chloe?"
