On the Day I Was Kicked Out of the Wealthy Family, I Had a Flash Marriage with a Tycoon-Chapter 36: His Temperature
Back in her room, Chloe Sterling took a shower and changed into a light-colored silk pajama set, a matching one to Jasper Lockwood’s.
When she walked over to the sofa to grab her phone, she realized she’d taken the wrong one. It was Jasper’s, and apparently, he hadn’t noticed either.
Chloe immediately took the phone to find Jasper. She knocked lightly on his door. "Jasper, are you asleep?"
"The door’s unlocked. Come in."
Chloe pushed the door open and went inside. Jasper had just stepped out of the bathroom himself, a single bath towel wrapped loosely around his waist, looking as if it might slip off at any second.
The man’s perfect, sexy physique was on full display. Chloe froze for a second before dropping her gaze to the floor. "Why aren’t you dressed!"
She heard the man let out a low chuckle. A moment later, a pair of feet and calves entered her field of vision as his low, husky voice sounded again. "I *am* wearing a towel."
Chloe cleared her throat and held out the phone. "We took the wrong phones. This is yours. Give me mine."
Jasper’s long fingers suddenly tilted her chin up. Looking at her face, he asked intentionally, "Why are you looking down while you talk?"
Chloe: ".......Could you please get dressed first? Or just give me the phone?"
After a brief pause, Jasper finally said, "Alright." He turned, walked over to a cabinet to retrieve her phone, and handed it to Chloe. "Here."
Chloe took her phone, handed him his, and immediately spun around and fled the guest room.
Jasper was at a loss.
’Is my physique not good enough? Or is my charm lacking?’
’Why does she always bolt so decisively!’
Jasper took a deep breath, turned, and went back into the bathroom.
Back in her room, Chloe’s mind was filled with images of Jasper’s broad shoulders, narrow waist, and eight-pack abs, along with the memory of the scorching heat she had once felt from him.
’That guy definitely did that on purpose!’
「The next morning.」
Cecilia Stone had been locked in a dim warehouse all night. No one had come, and she hadn’t been given so much as a grain of rice or a sip of water.
She huddled in a corner, cold and hungry, her nerves completely consumed by fear. ’Are they planning to just let me starve to death?’
’Who in the world is doing this to me?’
Just as she was wondering, the iron door suddenly swung open, flooding the space with a blinding white light. She raised a hand to shield her eyes, letting them slowly adjust.
Then, a woman’s silhouette appeared in the light. Cecilia Stone’s face was a mask of astonishment. "Chloe Sterling!" It finally dawned on her. "It was you! You’re the one who had me abducted!"
Chloe glanced at the woman cowering in the corner and spoke with indifference. "That’s right. It was me."
"What do you want? Chloe Sterling, if you dare touch me, I swear I won’t let you off!"
Chloe walked up to her, a cold smile playing on her lips. "And how are you going to do that? Come back and haunt me as a ghost?"
Cecilia Stone glared at her but said nothing. She was keenly aware of her predicament. There was no one else around. If Chloe really wanted to kill her, she wouldn’t stand a chance of escaping.
"Cecilia Stone..." Chloe said again. "Just how stupid are you? Did you really not realize that you’re completely incapable of dealing with me? And yet, for me, capturing you was laughably easy."
"So what?" Cecilia said, trying to sound tough. "So you caught me. What are you going to do about it? I’m still the fourth miss of the Sutton Family. If you lay a finger on me, the Suttons won’t let you get away with it. And those men backing you won’t be around to protect you forever!"
"The fourth miss of the Sutton Family?" Chloe sneered. "You know better than anyone what your standing in the Sutton Family is right now! I’ve never needed any man to protect me; I’ve always relied on myself. As for you... I can do whatever I please!
Even if you died here today, no one would ever know. It’s true I’m just a village doctor from the countryside, but I also know my way around poisons. I could make a body dissolve into a puddle of liquid, disappearing without a single trace."
Cecilia Stone’s face grew pale, and a distinct fear crept into her eyes.
A cunning glint flashed in Chloe’s eyes as she smiled and asked, "Want to find out? Or should I just keep you locked up in here to starve?"
Cecilia Stone was truly terrified now. She bit her lip, silent, her body trembling faintly.
Seeing her state, Chloe’s smile vanished. Her voice turned to ice. "Cecilia Stone, this is my first and last warning. If there’s a next time, it won’t be as simple as being locked up for a single night."
At her words, a glimmer of hope seemed to appear in Cecilia Stone’s terrified eyes.
Chloe eyed her. "Are you not leaving?"
After a night of cold, hunger, and terror, Cecilia Stone’s legs felt like jelly. It took her three attempts to get to her feet before she stumbled out of the warehouse. Only when she was safely in a taxi did the crushing weight of anxiety finally lift from her chest.
She didn’t dare return to her villa, so she went back to the Sutton family estate instead.
However, what awaited her was a violent storm.
Mr. Sutton slapped her viciously across the face, the force of the blow knocking Cecilia Stone into a daze. She crumpled to the floor, staring up at her father in utter confusion.
"You damn fool! What did you do now?! You even dared to offend the Rivers Family! Do you think you haven’t dragged this family through enough misery already?!"
The Rivers Family!
’Did Chloe manage to get in with the Rivers?’
Cecilia Stone finally understood why Chloe had said she was completely incapable of dealing with her. She had truly underestimated Chloe Sterling.
「One week later.」
Chloe had just arrived at The Medical College.
Rose Lynch suddenly appeared before her, her expression sour as she demanded, "Chloe, what on earth did you do to force Miss Sutton to leave the country? What did you do to her?"
Cecilia Stone had gone abroad, which was tantamount to being disowned by the Sutton Family.
Rose Lynch didn’t know the specifics, but Esther Sterling had told her that Chloe was the one who drove Cecilia Stone away.
Esther and Cecilia had been friends for years, and when Cecilia left, Esther was so upset she spent two days at home crying.
Chloe’s fingers tightened into a fist. "Why don’t you ask her what she did to me?" she retorted coldly.
"You’re standing right here, perfectly fine! With your martial arts skills, what could she possibly do to you? You just want to make Esther miserable, don’t you? How can you be so malicious?"
"More malicious than you?" Chloe said, her voice low. "Rose Lynch, why do you treat me like this?"
’There was a time when she held out hope for her parents. She had tried everything she could think of to let them know where she was, to have them find her.’
’She thought she finally had a home, a mom and a dad.’
’But in the end, after they brought her to Crestfall, they stuck her in a remote apartment, left a stack of cash, and walked out.’
’One had to go to the company, the other had to pick up her younger daughter.’
’She was a complete joke.’
’If Warren Sterling and Rose Lynch had bothered to care about her or get to know her even a little, they would have discovered how extraordinary she was. But they didn’t. They decided she was worthless and only worried about their younger daughter’s feelings.’
Staring at the young woman’s face, Rose Lynch was suddenly struck by the image of another man’s face—the man she had abandoned. Her gaze faltered, and she could no longer meet Chloe’s eyes.
"If you had just been obedient in the beginning, we wouldn’t have ended up like this."
Chloe sneered, "Be obedient? You mean obediently marry that scumbag, or obediently go back to the countryside? Ms. Lynch, what right do you have to dictate my life?"
Rose Lynch: "Since it’s come to this, don’t blame us for treating you this way!"
Chloe: "Since we mean nothing to each other, stop coming around. You disgust me."
