Chapter 147: Chapter 147: Silas Coldwell’s Invitation

"You still shouldn’t go. Let me go check things out first," Chase Langdon said.

Chloe Sterling immediately refused. "No way! He’s a better fighter than you, and he has several masters with him. If you go, you’ll never make it back."

Chase Langdon: "..." ’You really underestimate your senior!’

Chloe Sterling: "I’m just stating a fact."

Jean Kensington said to Chase Langdon, "Chloe’s right. You really shouldn’t go. Those experts around Silas Coldwell are freaks."

Chase Langdon raised an eyebrow. "How would you know?"

Jean Kensington’s lips curled into a smug smile. "I’ve hacked into his territory before and even stole some files from his men."

"And Silas Coldwell didn’t find out?"

Jean Kensington scratched her head. "He found out. He even sent assassins after me."

Chase Langdon: "..."

Jean Kensington cleared her throat and added, "But I’m not that easy to find."

She hadn’t wanted to take that job in the first place. Unfortunately, the client’s offer was just too high. She gave in to temptation and accepted, nearly getting herself killed in the process.

Luckily, Silas Coldwell later rescinded the order. She had no idea why, but at least she could finally stop living in constant fear.

After a moment’s thought, she said to Chloe Sterling, "How about I do some digging first? Then you can decide if you still want to go."

"Have you managed to crack his men’s firewall lately?" Chloe asked.

Jean Kensington: "Er... not yet. But I can try again."

"No, that would be too obvious. If Silas Coldwell figures out you’re with me, it’ll be a disaster if he finds you," Chloe refused.

"I’ll just go see him myself. He can’t do anything to me."

"Are you sure?"

"Are you sure?"

Jean Kensington and Chase Langdon asked in unison.

Chloe Sterling was unfazed. "It’s not the first time I’ve dealt with him."

Chase Langdon said, "I’m going with you. I’ll wait for you outside. Don’t even think about saying no!"

’If anything happens, I’ll get her out of there, even if it costs me my life.’

Chloe Sterling: "...Fine."

「Evening came quickly.」

Chloe Sterling felt a sudden unease at the thought of meeting Silas Coldwell alone. The feeling intensified when she thought of Jasper Lockwood.

’But I have to see Silas Coldwell, and I can’t let Jasper know for now. He’d probably try to stop me.’

She picked up her phone and dialed Jasper Lockwood’s number. The call connected almost instantly, and his pleasant voice came through. "Chloe."

"Jasper..." Chloe Sterling’s voice was soft. "I’m going to be home late tonight. I won’t be back for dinner."

"Where are you?"

"At the dojo, with my senior and Jean."

"All right, I understand."

"Are you still at the office?"

After a brief pause, Jasper Lockwood replied, "Yeah, I’m at the office. Do you want me to come pick you up?"

"No, that’s okay. I’ll head back on my own when I’m done."

"All right. Don’t be too late."

"Okay."

After hanging up, Chloe Sterling took an unconscious deep breath.

Chase Langdon, who was next to her, suddenly chuckled.

Chloe Sterling frowned at him. "What are you laughing at?"

"It’s rare to see that kind of expression on your face, Chloe. You really like Jasper Lockwood, don’t you?"

"..."

Chloe Sterling didn’t answer, simply turning and walking away.

Chase Langdon followed her. The two left the dojo, got into the same car, and departed.

Night fell and the city lights began to glitter. Sitting in the passenger seat, Chloe Sterling gazed out at the illuminated skyscrapers, her feelings a complex mix.

’I don’t know if Silas Coldwell really has news about Master. If he dares to lie to me, I’ll make him pay!’

The car sped along the road, soon arriving at a luxurious villa district.

Chase Langdon looked around. "Nice place. Hot spring villas."

Chloe Sterling stared straight ahead, her eyes flicking down to the GPS. "We’re almost there. It’s Villa Number 6."

Chase Langdon hit the gas, drove up, and pulled over to the side of the road. "Be careful. I’ll be waiting right here. Call me if you need anything."

"Okay." Chloe Sterling opened the door and got out.

Zane Stratton was standing at the entrance. He gave a slight smile. "Miss Sterling, the boss is waiting for you inside. Please come with me."

Chloe Sterling followed him into the villa. Though winter had already set in, the courtyard remained lush and green. In the distance, steam billowed from a massive hot spring pool, a picture of pure opulence.

Chloe Sterling gave it a fleeting glance before looking away. Moments later, they entered the villa, and Zane Stratton led her directly to the dining room.

"Miss Sterling, right this way."

Chloe Sterling paused for a moment before stepping inside. Her eyes fell upon a lavish candlelight dinner and a very flamboyantly dressed Silas Coldwell.

Seeing her, Silas Coldwell’s lips curled into a smirk. "You’ve arrived. Sit."

Chloe Sterling didn’t move. She asked bluntly, "Do you really have news about my master?"

"Of course. I know how important this is to you. Why would I lie to you about it?"

"Where is he?"

Silas Coldwell leaned back lazily in his chair. "Sweetheart, you haven’t agreed to my terms yet." 𝙛𝒓𝒆𝙚𝒘𝒆𝓫𝙣𝓸𝙫𝓮𝒍.𝒄𝒐𝓶

"How can I agree when I don’t even know if you’re telling the truth?"

"Are you saying that if I am telling the truth—if I’ve really found your master—you’ll agree to my terms?"

Chloe Sterling pursed her lips. After a moment, she said, "Besides me joining the Nocturne Group, is there nothing else you want?"

Silas Coldwell gave a wicked grin. "You could marry me instead."

Chloe Sterling: "...I’m already married. You didn’t know?"

Silas Coldwell was dismissive. "It’s not like you can’t get divorced."

After a long silence, Chloe Sterling finally said, "If it’s really my master, I’ll agree to join the Nocturne Group and take charge of the Crestfall branch."

Silas Coldwell seemed taken aback for a second, then his gaze turned skeptical. "You’re not trying to trick me, are you?"

Chloe Sterling said, "I won’t. A promise is a promise."

’But I’m no gentleman.’

’If it really is Master, I’ll give Silas Coldwell a handsome reward to thank him, but I won’t be joining the Nocturne Group.’

Silas Coldwell’s eyes narrowed. "But you’re no gentleman," he said languidly.

Chloe Sterling: "..."

Silas Coldwell gestured with his chin toward the chair opposite him. "Sweetheart, why don’t you sit down first? I prepared this candlelight dinner just for you. Romantic, isn’t it? This is what you like, right?"

The corner of Chloe Sterling’s mouth twitched. "I don’t like it, and I’m not here for dinner. Silas Coldwell, I just want to know where my master is. If it’s really him, I’ll be grateful and I will repay you. But if you’re lying to me..."

"I’m not lying to you." Silas Coldwell dropped his playful demeanor and said seriously, "I did find someone who strongly resembles your master. But I can’t be certain it’s him, which is why you need to identify him yourself."

Seeing that he no longer seemed to be lying, Chloe Sterling asked, "Is he in the Imperial? Or Country E?"

Silas Coldwell said, "Right here in the Imperial. I came across the information by chance, not online. So even if you have that hacker friend of yours break into my men’s computers, she won’t find a thing."

Chloe Sterling: "...I wouldn’t do that."

Silas Coldwell stood up and walked over to her. "Then promise me you’ll join the Nocturne Group. And if this person isn’t your master, I’ll still do everything in my power to help you find him. How about it?"

Chloe Sterling stared at him, but before she could speak, a cold, familiar voice suddenly rang out from behind her. "Not a chance!"
