Extra's Revenge: Reincarnated As A Slave-Chapter 149: The Labyrinth
The darkness was absolute.
Rey descended into the Labyrinth of Darkness, his spatial displacement depositing him hundreds of meters below the surface in passages that had never seen natural light. The walls around him radiated Chaos Energy so dense that it created a physical pressure against his enhanced perception, making even basic environmental awareness difficult.
He activated a minor illumination Artifact—a crystalline orb that emitted soft blue light—and immediately regretted it.
The light revealed architecture that shouldn’t exist.
The passage he’d landed in wasn’t a natural cave formation. Carved stone walls stretched in both directions, their surfaces covered in intricate patterns that predated any construction style Rey recognized from his knowledge of the Nether Realm. Geometric designs interlocked with organic motifs, creating visual complexity that suggested both mathematical precision and artistic expression.
’This isn’t just a chasm,’ Rey realized, studying the ancient craftsmanship. ’This is ruins. The remains of something that existed before the current civilizations.’
He extinguished the illumination Artifact after a moment, recognizing that light would only attract attention in this environment. His enhanced perception would have to suffice for navigation, despite the Chaos Energy interference.
Rey began moving deeper into the Labyrinth, choosing passages that led generally eastward—toward the Aether border. The architecture continued throughout, sometimes pristine and sometimes collapsed, always ancient and always mysterious.
Corridors branched in complex patterns that defied logical mapping. Stairways descended at impossible angles. Chambers opened into spaces that seemed larger than their physical dimensions should allow. The entire structure possessed qualities that suggested mystical construction methods far beyond contemporary understanding.
And everywhere, the Chaos Energy grew stronger.
Rey had to actively circulate his Ether to prevent the ambient Chaos from destabilizing his physical form. The energy here wasn’t just present—it was aggressive, seeking to corrupt and transform anything with ordered structure.
Hours passed in the darkness.
Rey navigated by touch and mystical sense, his hands tracing ancient walls while his perception mapped the space ahead. The passages descended continuously, taking him deeper into the Labyrinth’s heart.
Then he encountered the first trap.
A section of floor collapsed beneath his weight, revealing a pit filled with spikes that radiated Chaos Energy. Rey activated his mobility bracer, leaping to safety before falling, but the activation drew attention.
Mystical signatures flared throughout the surrounding passages—dormant detection wards triggering in response to his Ether expenditure.
’Defensive systems,’ Rey recognized grimly. ’Whoever built this place left active protections, even after all this time.’
He moved more carefully after that, testing each step before committing his weight, examining walls before touching them, using his enhanced perception to detect the faint mystical signatures that indicated trapped sections.
The precautions slowed his progress but prevented several more close calls—pressure plates that would have released Chaos-corrupted constructs, wall sections that would have crushed him between stone surfaces, ceiling mechanisms designed to drop massive weights on intruders.
Days passed in the perpetual darkness.
Rey lost track of time without natural day-night cycles to orient by. He rested when exhaustion forced him to stop, ate preserved rations from his spatial storage, and continued navigating through the impossible maze whenever his body permitted.
The architecture evolved as he descended. Upper levels had shown signs of age and decay, but deeper passages appeared almost pristine—as though the Chaos Energy itself had preserved them against time’s erosion.
Massive chambers opened periodically, their purposes unclear but their scale impressive. One contained rows of stone pedestals that might have held artifacts or offerings. Another featured a complex arrangement of channels that suggested water had once flowed through specific patterns. A third held what appeared to be an astronomical map carved into floor, walls, and ceiling simultaneously.
Rey documented what he could through memory, recognizing that this ancient kingdom—whatever it had been—represented lost knowledge that might prove valuable later.
But understanding the ruins wasn’t his primary objective. Survival and crossing to Aether territory took precedence over archaeological curiosity.
On what Rey estimated was the fourth day of descent, he found a chamber that seemed defensible enough for proper rest. It was smaller than most he’d encountered, with only one entrance and walls that showed no signs of hidden mechanisms or trap triggers.
He established basic defensive wards at the doorway—simple Spirit Art constructions that would alert him to approaching threats. Then he settled against the far wall, allowing himself the first deep rest since entering the Labyrinth.
Sleep came quickly despite the hostile environment. His enhanced body had been pushed to its limits navigating treacherous passages, and exhaustion overwhelmed even paranoid caution.
Rey slept for perhaps three hours before his defensive wards triggered.
His eyes snapped open, enhanced perception immediately scanning the chamber for threats. The wards at the entrance were dissolving under assault from Chaos Energy—not a sophisticated attack, just raw corrupted power overwhelming ordered mystical structure.
Then the first Chaos Dweller entered the chamber.
It was smaller than the Tier 6 creature he’d witnessed at the caravan—perhaps Tier 8 based on its mystical pressure—but no less dangerous in close quarters. Its form shifted between vaguely humanoid and utterly alien configurations, Chaos Energy preventing stable physical structure.
Rey rolled to his feet, Spirit Art already gathering in his hands.
"Inferno Technique, Sequence #9: Sparkbirth!"
Fire erupted toward the Dweller, divine flames that should have burned through conventional matter. The creature’s form absorbed the heat partially, its chaotic nature resisting ordered elemental attack, but unlike the Tier 6 specimen, this one couldn’t completely nullify the damage.
The Chaos Dweller recoiled, its shifting body showing what might have been burns where the fire had connected most intensely.
But it wasn’t alone. 𝑓𝑟ℯ𝘦𝓌𝘦𝘣𝑛𝑜𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝑐ℴ𝓂
Three more Dwellers entered the chamber, their combined mystical pressure suggesting Tier 8 and 7 classifications. They spread out with apparent coordination, attempting to surround Rey and prevent escape.
Rey shifted tactics immediately, recognizing he couldn’t afford prolonged combat in this confined space.
"Tempest Technique, Sequence #8: Gale Arc!"
Wind blades infused with electricity launched toward the nearest Dweller, slicing through its form. The creature’s body parted where the attack struck, but the wounds closed almost immediately as Chaos Energy reconstructed its structure.
’They regenerate faster than I can damage them with Low-Sequence Techniques,’ Rey calculated coldly. ’I need more power or a different approach.’
He activated a Mid-Sequence attack, committing more Ether to achieve decisive results.
"Convergence Technique, Sequence #7: Element Lattice!"
Fire, lightning, and compressed air wove together into a structured formation that filled half the chamber. The Chaos Dwellers caught in the lattice found their forms constrained by the multi-element construction, their regeneration struggling against continuous elemental assault from multiple damage types simultaneously.
One Dweller dissolved entirely, its Chaos Energy dispersing as the elemental lattice overwhelmed its coherence. The others damaged but survived, their forms destabilizing but not collapsing.
Then more Chaos Dwellers entered the chamber.
Rey’s enhanced perception detected at least a dozen approaching through the passage, their mystical signatures varying from Tier 9 to Tier 7. Some kind of alarm had been triggered—either by his combat or by his presence in this specific location—and the Labyrinth’s inhabitants were converging on his position.
’This chamber is a trap,’ Rey realized with frustration. ’Not a mechanical trap, but a strategic one. Defensible from inside, but only one exit, which makes it perfect for surrounding and overwhelming a defender.’
He couldn’t stay here. Fighting in a confined space against endless reinforcements would deplete his Ether reserves without achieving any strategic objective.
Rey gathered his Chaos Art—the affinity he’d been avoiding to prevent complications, but which now became necessary for survival.
"Chaos Art, Corruption Technique, Sequence #8: Rule Twist!"
The fundamental rule governing "solid matter" within the chamber’s entrance shifted. What had been impassable stone became permeable like water, while the air took on qualities of solid barrier.
The approaching Chaos Dwellers, adapted to navigate normal physical space, found themselves struggling with the inverted environmental properties. They could pass through walls but couldn’t move through air, their movement patterns disrupted by the corrupted physics.
It bought Rey seconds, not minutes, but seconds were enough.
He activated his spatial displacement Artifact again, teleporting out of the chamber to a passage fifty meters distant. The Artifact’s Ether reserves were depleting rapidly from repeated use, but escape took priority over conservation.
The new passage was wider, offering more room to maneuver. Rey continued retreating while the Chaos Dwellers pursued, their numbers growing as more emerged from side corridors and hidden chambers.
’They’re everywhere,’ Rey thought, his enhanced perception detecting mystical signatures throughout the surrounding structure. ’This entire section of the Labyrinth is infested with them.’
He fought while retreating, using a combination of Spirit Art and Chaos Art to maximize efficiency.
"Inferno Technique, Sequence #7: Pyre Mantle!" created a barrier of flames around his body that damaged Dwellers on contact while providing defensive coverage.
"Chaos Art, Reversal Technique, Sequence #7: Effect Betrayal!" turned a Dweller’s Chaos Energy attack back on itself, causing the creature to partially dissolve from its own corrupted power.
"Spirit Art, Construction Technique, Sequence #8: Earthbind!" manipulated the ancient stone floor to restrain pursuing Dwellers, buying time for tactical repositioning.
But they kept coming.
For every Dweller Rey destroyed or disabled, two more appeared from the darkness. The horde seemed endless, as though the Labyrinth itself was generating them in response to his intrusion.
Hours of continuous combat depleted Rey’s Ether reserves at an alarming rate. He’d started with his enhanced pool—five times larger than normal practitioners—but sustained use of Mid-Sequence Techniques against dozens of opponents burned through even those extensive resources.
Rey escalated to more powerful attacks out of necessity.
"Convergence Technique, Sequence #6: Hybrid Surge!" launched rapid-fire hybrid attacks that combined three elements in unstable configurations. The resulting explosions devastated multiple Dwellers simultaneously, but the Ether cost was tremendous.
"Chaos Art, Entropy Technique, Sequence #7: Mental Fracture!" targeted the rudimentary consciousness governing several Dwellers, causing them to attack each other in confused frenzy.
"Spirit Art, Tempest Technique, Sequence #6: Thunder Ring!" created a circular lightning field that electrocuted anything attempting to approach, forcing the horde to maintain distance while Rey continued retreating.
But his Ether reserves were approaching critical depletion.
Rey’s enhanced perception warned him when his pool dropped below twenty percent—the threshold where continuing combat would risk complete exhaustion and leave him helpless.
’I can’t sustain this,’ he acknowledged grimly, destroying another Dweller with a Convergence attack that cost more Ether than he could afford. ’I need to disengage completely or I’ll run dry in the middle of this horde.’
The passage ahead branched into three directions. Rey chose the rightmost path at random, activating his spatial displacement one final time to create distance.
The Artifact flickered and died, its Ether reserves finally depleted from excessive use.
Rey landed in a narrow corridor, his breathing heavy, his body showing the accumulated damage from hours of continuous fighting. Burns from Chaos Energy exposure covered his arms. His Ether reserves sat at approximately fifteen percent—enough for basic Techniques but insufficient for sustained combat.
Behind him, the mystical signatures of pursuing Chaos Dwellers continued advancing, undeterred by the distance he’d created.
’I need to find a better defensive position,’ Rey thought, forcing his exhausted body to keep moving. ’Somewhere I can rest and recover Ether before they catch up. Or better yet, somewhere they can’t easily reach.’
He stumbled forward through the darkness, the ancient ruins seeming to stretch endlessly in all directions.
The pursuit continued relentlessly behind him.
And his Ether reserves continued depleting with every step, every breath, every moment his enhanced body fought against Chaos Energy exposure.
Rey had survived the initial ambush and escaped the horde’s center.
But he was wounded, exhausted, and deep in hostile territory with minimal resources remaining.
The Labyrinth of Darkness had shown him only a fraction of its dangers.
And he was already being pushed to his absolute limits.
’Now I understand how dangerous this place is...’ He laughed bitterly, reflecting on his choice to take on this risk.
Unfortunately, he was already in too late to quit.
[A/N: Do you want me to post the Ancient MajiK techniques in the auxiliary Chapters so it is easier to follow their sequences?]
