Chapter 25 - The Amazing Battle of the Four Ended Somehow

A couple of hours later...

"Squad Number Two, failure. Expelled!"

"Squad Number Three, pass. Moving forward!"

"Squad Number Four, failure. Expelled!"

"Squad Number Five, failure. Expelled!"

"Squad Number Six, pass. Moving forward!"

And so it continued...

Out of the first fifteen squads, only seven had passed.

The rest had failed and were expelled before even entering the Academy.

A complete embarrassment.

It was finally their turn—Squad Number Sixteen.

"Squad Number Sixteen, please step forward. Note: you are free to take any weapon if needed, and if not—"

Cherry waved a hand in dismissal, cutting the field analyst off.

"We will pass."

The man frowned, watching her walk past him with an air of confidence.

Their composure made some believe they would end up just like Squad Number One—overconfident and crushed.

The four took deep breaths and stepped into the battlefield alongside the field analyst.

Once inside, they observed the terrain.

Multiple holes dotted the ground—some deep and fresh, others still smouldering, likely from a Flame Blast Special Sense or a similar attack.

The rocky surface was rough and uneven, almost indistinguishable from real terrain.

The technology behind it was remarkable, making everything feel solid and reactive to impact.

Vorden spoke in a low voice:

"Stick to the plan. The moment the Titan-Class construct appears, Luminen, you're up first."

Luminen gave a small nod, still visibly nervous.

At a tap on the field analyst's device, the ground trembled.

A deep red Titan-Class construct erupted from below, its massive hand emerging first—human-like but grotesquely exaggerated.

Then its head and entire body followed.

The creature stood at approximately 17 feet (5.2 metres) tall, its frame resembling that of a giant humanoid, though its proportions were unnerving.

Its arms were long and thick, with clawed fingers built for crushing.

Its body was covered in overlapping plates, giving it an almost armoured appearance, while its legs were bulky, built for stability rather than speed.

The head was featureless except for two piercing, glowing eyes.

A loud roar erupted from its mouth, shaking the air around them.

The Titan's deep-set optics flared red as it scanned them within an instant.

Without warning, it lunged forward, its massive right arm descending with devastating force.

"This entity is colossal."

"Now!" Vorden commanded.

Luminen tensed, his body trembling slightly as he stepped back.

Then, upon concentrating, his ability manifested.

A brilliant, all-encompassing light erupted from him.

Its intensity was so overwhelming that it momentarily blinded not only the Titan but also his allies.

They instinctively narrowed their eyes, attempting to shield themselves from the excessive brightness.

"That is significantly more intense than anticipated," Vorden noted internally.

The Titan's optical sensors malfunctioned.

It was a highly effective strategy—the construct reacted to visual impairment.

Its vision overloaded, and its sensors scrambled to recalibrate.

The attack missed its mark.

The sheer force of the strike sent shockwaves rippling through the ground, but the squad remained unharmed.

Observing from a safe location, the assigned analyst recorded their performance, marking five stars for their strategic execution and teamwork.

Cherry had already advanced into position.

Raising her hands, dark energy radiated from her form as metallic forces converged at her fingertips.

Thick iron spikes erupted from the ground near the Titan's feet, strategically placed to destabilise its stance.

The construct staggered.

Damien's focus and calm remained unwavering.

His pupils dilated as he analysed its structure, instantly identifying weaknesses.

"Left knee joint, neck connector."

Vorden registered the information and acted immediately.

With precise footwork, he lunged forward, forcing the Titan to shift its stance.

It reacted accordingly, exposing its left knee joint.

At that moment, Damien had already taken to the air.

Cherry, having materialised an obsidian spear, placed it swiftly into his grasp. Without hesitation, he launched it.

The spear impaled the target.

"Bullseye," Vorden remarked.

A metallic screech resonated as the Titan's leg collapsed inward.

Their strategy was progressing as intended.

"Cherry, another!" Vorden instructed.

She smirked, preparing to summon a second spear.

Then, an unforeseen error occurred.

Luminen's concentration wavered.

His previously concealed fear surfaced, breaking his focus.

The light surrounding him faltered, dimming just enough for the Titan to regain clarity.

Its optical sensors recalibrated.

"Dammit. What have you done?!" Vorden snapped.

The Titan's optics reignited, burning red with full intensity.

It had adapted.

With an unnatural rotational movement, it twisted at an unprecedented speed.

The failed attack was repurposed into an immediate counter-strike.

Its massive arm swung with immense force.

Cherry was mid-summon.

She perceived the attack too late.

Her defensive shield was incomplete.

The shockwave struck, reducing the damage but still sending her hurtling backward.

However, both Vorden and Damien had already responded.

Damien had perceived a momentary flicker of danger.

Vorden adapted instantaneously, all thanks to his Attribute.

Vorden had already reached the Titan's neck region.

A blade of condensed black ice materialised in his grasp.

He drove it downward, dragging it through the Titan's structure with the force of an army demolishing a fortress wall.

The construct struggled against the restraint.

Simultaneously, another spear was secured in Damien's grip.

He delivered a precise strike to the head, while Vorden reinforced the black ice into a sharpened chain, coiling it tightly from the neck upwards.

The force ripped through the Titan's framework, tearing it apart.

The construct collapsed in defeat.

Its holographic projection flickered, then dissipated entirely.

Both warriors landed in synchronisation, their expressions composed and controlled.

"It is best to conclude engagements swiftly."

The analyst finalised the assessment.

Five stars in all aspect.

"Squad Number Fifteen, passed. Proceeding to the next phase."
