Chapter 94 - Does Your Husband Have a Visitor?

Betty was unable to stop Joanna in time, so she decided to make herself scarce instead.

Joanna was surprised to find Alex peacefully sleeping on the bed with his wheelchair next to him.

She felt remorseful for suspecting him and didn’t want him to know about her actions.

It was the first time she had seen him in this state, sleeping so soundly.

The only other time they had shared a room, she had fallen asleep before him, and this room was dark, so she hadn’t seen him like this before.

If Joanna had her way, she would have turned on the light to get a better look at him, but she knew it would cause trouble and she couldn’t come up with a good excuse for intruding on his privacy.

Hastily, she left for the kitchen when Aiden emerged from the closet and locked the door behind him.

"That was a close call," Aiden remarked.

Joanna would have been suspicious if she had seen him, but Alex could only wonder what was going through Joanna’s mind regarding his room switch.

He relaxed after he remembered she had gone upstairs before that switch.

Alex had waited for Joanna and Violet to go upstairs before moving to the bedroom downstairs.

"I can’t believe she entered my room," he thought. They weren’t supposed to enter each other’s rooms, but she did it so casually.

Aiden’s concern took a different turn. "You should be grateful she didn’t turn on the light."

Alex tensed at Aiden’s words. His wound hadn’t been bandaged yet, so Joanna would have seen the blood. Additionally, Dion’s picture was on the nightstand next to his bed.

The Munchinos won’t get away with this," Alex seethed.

Even if the police arrested them, Alex would ensure they paid for putting him in such a vulnerable situation.

Aiden agreed, but his concern shifted to Alex’s wound once again. "Your wound is deep. I removed the bullet, but you might need antibiotics. I still can’t understand what you did back there."

Alex shielding him from the bullets with his body still confused him greatly, as did allowing the cops to take over when they could have finished off those men before the cops arrived.

Alex pressed a bottle of vodka to his lips and after gulping down a mouthful, replied.

"We were outnumbered, so the best thing was to escape. I didn’t want the cops to get involved, and besides, I’m getting married. The media would be there," he explained. Aiden nodded.

"Yeah, your pictures will be everywhere after the wedding, and they would have easily linked you to what happened."

"I’m glad you understand," Alex shrugged. "I want to sleep now. You can sleep here too, but please lock the door."

Had it not been for Aiden and their injuries, he would have remembered to close the door the moment he went in.

"Yeah, I’m also tired, so I’ll sleep on the couch." Aiden was looking for a blanket to use when Alex sighed and gulped down the last drop of vodka they used to mask the pain.

"I can share the bed, but just make sure your body doesn’t touch mine."

It was their first time sharing a bed, but Alex was not heartless. They were both tired and still in pain, so it wouldn’t be right to make Aiden uncomfortable on the couch.

Letting him into another room might also be problematic since only Alex’s room has an emergency exit.

Downstairs, Joanna had finished preparing breakfast and went to fetch Violet to join her. However, upon reaching Alex’s door, she became curious.

Alex was typically an early riser, but today he seemed to be relishing the comfort of his bed.

Curiosity got the best of her, and she attempted to open the door, only to find it locked. Perhaps Betty had locked it.

"Violet, wake up. I made breakfast," Joanna gently nudged the drowsy woman, who groaned in response.

"It’s the weekend. Let’s sleep in."

Joanna felt a sense of unease and the need for someone to talk to over breakfast, but Violet was not in the mood.

Disappointed, Joanna returned downstairs. Upon seeing Betty, she inquired,

"Can I wake Alex? I don’t want breakfast to get cold. I made something special that I know he would enjoy."

Betty appreciated Joanna’s concern for her boss and smiled. "Madame, sir returned not too long ago, so I would advise against waking him."

Joanna was taken aback. Did that mean what she saw was real? Initially dismissing it as a hallucination, she now felt compelled to trust her instincts and investigate further.

"We returned together last night, so what do you mean he came home not too long ago?"

Betty’s face drained of color. It wasn’t like before when she could brush things off.

This time, there was a bond formed between her and Joanna because of how the young woman stood up for her and gave her back her job.

She could not act unfeeling like before. "That is what I am talking about. You both returned earlier this morning, and sir hasn’t slept like this for a long while. Please allow him to have this rest."

Her explanation made sense, so Joanna agreed. "You are right. I won’t bother him, but if he doesn’t wake up in the next thirty minutes, you can give the food to the maids."

Betty was saddened for her boss not to have this treat but also knew he needed all the rest because of his injuries.

It was not the first time something like that happened anyway, but it was minimal by the arrival of the young madam.

"Alright, ma’am, I hope he wakes up by then."

Joanna waited, but Alex did not wake up. However, Violet did, after three hours. Her presence greatly brightened Joanna’s mood.

"You finally woke up. I guess I have to prepare another breakfast for you."

"I would love that, but I’m sorry for sleeping so much and not joining you earlier. I just like to catch up on all my lost sleep during the weekend."

Joanna’s eyes widened. "I’m amazed you didn’t choose the club for relaxing," she said teasingly. Violet laughed, but then recalled something and asked,

"Who are the men in the next room? Does your husband have a visitor?"

Joanna stiffened instantly, but without a word, she began to hasten up the stairs, fainting by what met her eyes.
