No Substitutes for the Bigshots' Dream Girl Anymore!-Chapter 1921 Hayes Edwards’ Special Story (78)
He thought of the small cake that Grace Winter gave him last time.
The taste was quite good.
In July, the results of the high school entrance exam were released.
Hayes Edwards performed exceptionally well and got into No. 1 High School.
No. 1 High School is a prestigious high school on the same street as Dawn Light Middle School, not too far away.
Hayes chose not to live on campus and commuted to school by bicycle every day.
The year Hayes became a freshman in high school, Grace Winter became a second-year middle school student. Since they no longer attended the same school, their chances of meeting decreased significantly.
As the weather turned cooler, Hayes would leave home when it was still dark. By the time he was close to reaching school, Grace was just leaving her house.
Like two parallel lines, they never intersected.
Sometimes when he got up late, Hayes would rush out while biting into a bun and glance at the door across the street.
It would be dark outside, with a light drizzle. He wondered if his little sidekick remembered to bring an umbrella today.
But it was just a fleeting thought, as Mother Edwards was already urging him to hurry up from behind.
During the winter break of the first semester of high school, Hayes and a few friends, including Little Fatty, arranged to meet and played basketball in the community court just like old times.
Sometimes during breaks, he would subconsciously look towards the stone bench over there.
No sign of Grace Winter.
This winter break, Grace had returned to her hometown.
It seemed like they hadn’t seen each other for a long time. High school studies were much more intense than middle school, with evening classes scheduled every night except Saturdays and holidays.
Even though they lived right across from each other, their encounters were few and far between.
Occasionally, he would hear her name mentioned in conversations with old friends, who said her grades remained stable, and she even represented the school in competitions.
Perhaps she would have the chance to gain direct admission to a key high school in the future.
There are six key high schools in the city, and the best two include No. 1 High School.
He wondered which one she would choose.
In the second semester of high school, Hayes joined the school’s basketball team. Because of his outstanding looks and height, there were almost always girls who came to watch him in every match.
He was very popular, just like before.
Even the basketball team members teased him, saying that he wasn’t interested in the school beauty senior, so was he waiting for some junior girl?
At the age of fifteen or sixteen, in the naive days of youth, the word "first love" was like a cool breeze blowing through the hot summer, with flowers blooming quietly in the wind. You could smell the faint fragrance of flowers but couldn’t find their trace.
In the second before the whistle blew, the last ball was steadily shot into the hoop. Hayes stood beyond the three-point line, lifting his shirt hem to wipe the sweat from his forehead, revealing a part of his waist and abdomen.
Girls on the sidelines screamed excitedly, holding their phones, eager to rush up.
"Ah! Hayes is so handsome! Truly worthy of being the new school heartthrob! Those abs instantly kill off a crowd!"
A friendly teammate came forward, put his arm around Hayes’s shoulder, said something to him, and then pointed towards the group of girls.
Hayes turned to look, squinting slightly.
He’s a bit nearsighted, and it’s getting harder to see faces clearly as the sky grows darker.
But those girls didn’t know and got even more excited with their voices.
Hayes withdrew his gaze, raised his hand, and pushed away the hand resting on his shoulder, "Boring."
After saying that, he walked straight to the sidelines, bent down to pick up his backpack and coat lying there, directly ignoring the few bottles of mineral water and notes nearby.
