New World with Four Husbands-Chapter 574: The worries of the mediators
"Good thing Sinclair arrived." Alhai started quietly, saying the words under his breath, preparing the table so they could eat dinner. "I don’t know what I would do if we lost Kairo just like that.."
"He probably sensed that Coco was panicking." Quizen mumbled and dried the glasses with a pink fabric. "He was knocking like something bad had happened to her, and have you seen how anxious he looked earlier?"
"I was anxious about Kairo so no." Heiren said, pouring the broth over to a large bowl.
"He will be fine, right?" Zaque asked, his eyebrows knitted in worry as he opened the oven. "I couldn’t hear the commotion earlier because the door was closed, but I sensed that something was wrong."
"He will be fine." Alhai stated, sounding like he was saying the sentence to himself rather than to Zaque.
Out of the four mediators inside the room, Alhai is the closest to Kairo.
Kairo had formed a friendship with him when he first started working at the library and figured that since they are walking home at the same time, why not become friends with him?
He normally would regret forming a bond with someone, but Kairo has not let him feel any regret just yet.
Rather, Kairo had been attentive to him, the other mediators, and Coco.
He was a good friend, like how good Jacques and her husbands were to Coco, so Alhai didn’t want to hurt Kairo by letting his feelings towards Coco be buried.
He knew that Kairo was someone important to the original Coco Hughes, but still, he didn’t push himself on their beloved Coco.
He made it clear that he doesn’t want to get between them so he had been unknowingly avoiding Coco, and their wife, so painfully dense and hardheaded, refused to back down.
The mediators were able to tell that Coco had started liking Kairo just a month ago.
She had done things that a mere friend wouldn’t do to a mediator and even went as far as running to his aid without leaving Heiren behind in the guild when he was abducted.
Would one spouse risk the life of their husband for a friend? No, right?
It was a telltale sign that Coco isn’t Kairo as just a friend, but she was too dense to realize her feelings towards him.
It was a little laughable to Alhai that he could sense Coco’s feelings for Kairo had started changing, but he failed and couldn’t sense her feelings changing for him even though they were living under the same roof.
There were a couple of signs that showed him that Coco liked him not as a friend, but as a lover, and he was dense enough to believe that she was just being friendly.
"Just.. Just trust Sinclair this time." Alhai mumbled, casting a glance at his friends. "Coco is already worried so let’s not try to worsen it."
Zaque pursed his lips and placed the freshly baked bread on the counter, letting it cool off.
"Let’s just finish here and see how Kairo is doing.. Sinclair should be able to guess what was wrong with him by now." The red haired mediator stated, turning in his heels and grabbing a batch of unbaked cookies by their refrigerator.
"But.. Why would Sinclair have to be the one checking him?" Quizen asked, putting the glasses down on the table. "Shouldn’t we call for a doctor instead?"
"Now that you mention it.." Heiren mumbled, his eyebrows furrowing in wonder. "Why shouldn’t we call for a doctor?"
Alhai and Zaque paused what they were doing, turning their heads to look at the second husband and the fourth husband, eyebrows raised to their hairline.
"Stop questioning Coco’s actions." Alhai chastised them with a huff.
"I completely agree with Alhai." Zaque sighed, his voice gruff with disappointment. "The two of you should have learned by now that we must never doubt our wife and instead, support her."
"Relax." Quizen stated and raised his hands on either side of his head. "It was just a passing thought."
"Then keep it as a passing thought." The third husband grunted out, narrowing his eyes at Quizen. "It’s not pleasant to hear that my friends are doubting their wife, which happens to be the person I love as well."
The other three mediators flinched, their faces warming up.
"Y-You.. How can you say those words aloud?" Zaque grumbled, his cheeks tainted with pink hue. "And white bluntly, too."
"Because I love Coco." Alhai responded, as if it’s the most obvious answer in the world. "What is wrong with the three of you? Why are you getting embarrassed with me saying that I love her?" 𝙛𝒓𝓮𝒆𝔀𝒆𝙗𝓷𝒐𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝓶
He shot a glare at Quizen. "And you! You shouldn’t be embarrassed when you have sex with her!"
Heiren and Zaque turned their heads to look at the blue haired mediator, their eyes widening in disbelief, unable to believe Alhai’s words, but the look on the mediator’s face was a dead giveaway.
"Seriously?" Zaque gasped, quickly pushing the tray of cookies inside the oven and turned back to him. "When did it happen?!"
Quizen averted his gaze away from them, turning his back and distracting himself with the glasses by drying them off again. "I.. It just happened. Coco.. She— she was the one who.."
"Oh, I get it." Alhai spoke up, the corner of his lips quirking up. "She asked you to give yourself to her, didn’t she?"
Quizen could only nod because technically, Alhai wasn’t wrong.
Heiren opened his mouth to ask when did he sleep with Coco, but they heard footsteps echoing down the hall and all of them simultaneously turned their heads to look at the door.
Quizen placed the glass down and rushed to the door to take a look, peeking his head out.
"Coco?" He called, his eyes widening in surprise when he saw her run down the hall and walk past him. "Coco! Hold on, tell me if he is okay— Coco?"
