Chapter 564: Bombarded with questions

Coco trudged her way through the doors of the guild, the hinges creaking and letting out an unpleasant sound.

The sound the doors let out captured the attention of the hunters in the vicinity, making them turn their heads to look at the person who has entered the guild despite their seemingly interesting conversations.

"Have you heard what happened?"

"What?"

"Coco got kidnapped last night and the guildmaster himself went out to look for her!"

"Are you being serious right now?"

"Yeah— shh! She’s here!"

Coco’s face was blank, but her eyebrow was twitching as she walked past the group of four people who were gossiping quite loudly about what happened.

I wasn’t kidnapped. Coco told herself, gaslighting her own mind for her own good.

It’s the truth though, so why would she need to make her believe another thing otherwise? She wasn’t kidnapped, she was ambused, and was injured— which resulted in Cleora, the woman who helped her, to heal her.

Speaking of which, she was sure that she had seen her before, but she can’t remember where and when.

Coco groaned and rubbed a hand down her face, her feet carrying her to the staircase and walking past the guild’s reception desk where Neo and the pregnant female mediator was stationed.

She couldn’t bother making small talk with them so she hurried past them.

Once she reached the staircase, she made a beeline down the hall of the second floor and went straight to the guildmaster’s office.

On the way there, however, she bumped into Greinzer and Lukas— an odd duo to see.

"Coco!" The sacred beast brightened up, his mouth flashing her a relieved grin as he rushed towards her, his arms wrapping around her in a hurry. "You’re back! And you’re okay!" 𝑓𝓇𝘦ℯ𝘸𝘦𝑏𝓃𝑜𝘷ℯ𝑙.𝑐𝑜𝓂

"Yeah, yeah, yeah.." Coco mumbled, not wriggling out of the sacred beast’s embrace. "I’m okay, but I have to report to the guild master first. Can you let me go?"

Lukas’ head snapped up and stared at her, practically bulging his eyes out. "Report to him? What for?"

"About what happened." Coco said, eyebrows furrowing. "Nothing major."

"Why should you report to him about what happened to you?" Lukas frowned and turned to Greinzer. "Why does a human have to report to another human who aren’t related to each other?"

Coco gasped, snapping her attention to the black haired hunter. "Lukas! You can’t say that to him!"

"We already know." Greinzer answered, staring blankly at Coco. "We didn’t ask about it last night, but he was pretty much running at a speed no human could ever possess."

"Well, there you have it." Lukas huffed out, grinning. "I also told them what I am so everything’s kind of sorted out now."

"Why the fuck would you tell them that kind of information, Lukas?" Coco grumbled, her frown deepening. "Isn’t this kind of groundbreaking news for them? You’re a beast—"

The door to the guildmaster’s office swung open, cutting Coco’s statement and making her tense in Lukas’ arms.

"Coco!" Yuuko gasped, her eyes wide. "You’re back! We were just about to come to your house to check in on you! Why did you come in today? You could have taken a day off."

"Coco’s here?" A voice called from behind Yuuko. "Stop crowding at the door and let her in."

Yuuko rolled her eyes and stepped aside, swinging the door wider. "You heard the guildmaster, Lukas. Bring our Coco inside."

Lukas walked inside, Coco still trapped in his tight embrace, causing Greinzer and Konoha to exchange glances before coming into a silent agreement that they wouldn’t bother going inside the office.

The two turned in their feet and paws, ready to wander around the building, but Yuuko caught Greinzer by the collar and wrapped her arm around Konoha’s torso.

"You two will be coming inside also." The woman stated, dragging them to the office.

The door to the office got kicked by Yuuko and she let go of the two, letting them wander to their own spots inside the room.

Konoha found herself perching on Coco’s lap on the couch and the hunter found himself leaning against the wall beside the couch, his arms crossed over his chest.

"It’s a relief to see you in good shape." Mr. Covez started, his eyes softening as he took in Coco’s state. "I received a letter from the mercenary guild last night stating that you were in danger, and even though I didn’t know what to do, I immediately called for our best hunters."

Coco blinked and lowered her head, guilt crossing her features. "I’m sorry for causing trouble—"

"Trouble? You caused no trouble, child." The guildmaster interjected, shooting down her guilt down the drain. "You’re one of us, you’re practically a child I never had at this point, so there’s no use apologizing."

"And you’re the cousin I wanted to have, but didn’t have." Yuuko chimed in, causing Mr. Covez and Lukas to chuckle.

"While we’re on it, I’m going to say that you’re the only new hunter whom I considered as a student." Greinzer stated, his voice steady and monotonous, but there was a certain softness in his gaze as he looked at Coco.

"I’ll let the monsters wreck the city first before I lose my first star student." Greinzer huffed out, turning his head away.

Coco bit her lip and laced her fingers on Konoha’s fur, unable to appreciate the thought of the people around her at that moment— to her defense, she doesn’t know these people in a personal level, so she feel rather quite odd hearing them view her as someone who is kind of important to their life.

"With that aside." Mr. Covez cleared his throat and the look on his face took a serious turn. "Can you inform us— me, about what happened?"

Coco nodded her head. "Absolutely, sir, but I would like you to not pursue this person, no matter what."

"Why?" The guild master asked, frowning. "You got hurt, don’t you?"

"Yes, but that person is important to me."
