New World with Four Husbands-Chapter 561: Drunk
Coco snapped her head to the side, her eyes wide in fright and heart almost jumping out of her chest.
"What were you two doing without me?" The second husband whined, all the while hiccuping at the end of his sentence as he stumbled towards Coco.
"Heiren?" Coco called, letting out a sigh of relief. She honestly thought that someone else had barged into the room, but she was glad that it was just him—
Coco froze, blinking, and wondered why would she assume that someone else would have walked inside the house except for the people she knows anyway?
That’s a weird thought, but she decided to shake it off, and smiled at the mediator.
"Are you okay?" Coco asked, meeting him halfway and wrapping her arms around him to stabilize him on his feet.
Heiren shot her a grin, crooked and awkward, but it gave Coco an idea why he was walking funny. 𝚏𝐫𝚎𝗲𝕨𝐞𝐛𝕟𝚘𝐯𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝗺
Her nose scrunched up when she got a whiff of the scent of his breath. "You reek. Have you been drinking? Just how many bottles did you down before you called it quits?"
"He reeks?" Quizen chimed in, stepping closer to Heiren and leaning down, sniffing the mediator.
Quizen quickly reeled away and covered his nose, his eyebrows creasing, hissing. "Goodness! You smell like alcohol!"
Heiren chuckled and ignored Quizen, instead, he turned to Coco and wrapped his arms around her torso, pulling her close against him, burying his face into her shoulder.
Quizen clicked his tongue. "Who were you drinking with, Heiren? Is this why you, Zaque, and Alhai didn’t come back last night?"
"Last night?" Heiren repeated, his nose scrunching up. "What happened last night?"
"Yeah, he’s still drunk." Coco breathed out, holding Heiren onto her tightly, not wanting to let him fall on the floor. "This smell doesn’t smell like any other alcohol though. Just what did you drink?"
"Wineeeeeee!" Heiren drawled out, giggling and rubbing his cheek on Coco’s shoulder. "Zaque opened one and it was delicioussssss.."
Coco raised an eyebrow and turned to Quizen. "People can get drunk from wine?"
"I do get drunk after three glasses, so yes." The mediator answered, shrugging his shoulders. "But Heiren has never gotten drunk from wine before. He probably had a bottle or two."
Coco frowned and returned her attention to the mediator in her arms, barely able to keep himself standing without needing to lean all his weight against her body with his hands gripping the back of her robe.
"I didn’t even know that we have alcoholic beverages in the house." Coco mumbled, sighing.
"There was a wine box that Coco Hughes brought four months ago." Quizen explained as quickly as he could when he sensed the underlying tone of sadness in Coco’s voice.
The mediator knew that it stemmed from Coco Hughes’ alcoholism and was probably just looking out for them, also the fact that she’s not stopping them from doing whatever they want— it was something that made his heart swell with love.
However, his words only made Coco frown deeper.
"She bought wine when she was already in debt? Unbelievable." Coco’s nose scrunched up in disgust, scoffing out the words.
Quizen’s heart almost jumped out of his chest at the sight of Coco being mad for their sakes, but even if she was feeling upset, she still tended to Heiren gently.
"I’ll check the others in the kitchen." Coco stated and picked up Heiren off his feet, glancing at Quizen. "Change my bed cover, okay? I don’t want the others to change it."
"Sure, but are you sure you can do it?" Quizen agreed, his eyebrows furrowing as he trailed his gaze down to her legs.
"I’m fine." Coco assured him and smiled. "I love the pain because it reminded me how much you made me feel good, and how good you were to me last night."
Quizen’s cheeks flushed, the words from Coco’s mouth making him feel embarrassed.
"I-I see.." He mumbled, turning his face away and waited until Coco was out of the room before he moved to the bed, throwing himself over it and screamed against her pillow.
He screamed so loud, yet it was muffled.
Coco couldn’t help, but chuckle, the corner of her lips quirking up into a small smile.
Heiren was already knocked out in her arms and from the looks of it, he was quite blissful after being hammered by a wine— if that’s what he really did drink.
A part of Coco is suspicious about the wine they are talking about, not because she doesn’t believe them, but because she could sense a trace of mana in the mediator’s lips.
What kind of wine would require a mana to make it?
Things have been a mess and confusing lately, but with how much progress she had made with the mediators, she could care less about those things.
Coco kicked the door open to Heiren’s room and walked in, only to freeze by the doorway when her eyes landed on a big photo of her glued to the wall of Heiren’s bed.
Coco’s eyes widened at the sight of her, not Coco Hughes— well, it’s Coco Hughes’ body, but it’s her.
How could she tell that it was her? From what she could remember in Coco Hughes’ memory and the stories she heard from others around her, Coco Hughes would never lift a hand to have a basket filled with fruits on her back.
"He must have taken it when we were still at Yogusho Village." Coco mumbled, walking over to the bed and gently placing Heiren down on the mattress.
The picture has her walking with a smile on her face, and it looked like she was talking to Lala at the time, but the camera wasn’t able to capture her.
"I don’t even know that a camera exists in this world." Coco murmured to herself, tucking Heiren under the covers.
After she was done, she stayed in her position, standing beside the bed and staring at Heiren.
