Chapter 243: Alithe’s ability

The evening was settling over Yogisho Village, the golden hue of the setting sun casting long shadows across the landscape of the village.

The sky was a blaze of a few colors, the sun sinking below the horizon in a burst of red and orange.

The trees were swaying gently in the warm evening breeze, the leaves rustling softly as they were nudged by the wind, the air was tinged with the scent of burning wood and cooking food, the smells wafting lazily in the air above the houses of the village.

The streets of the village were almost deserted, the villagers having retreated into their homes to prepare dinner and await the night.

The sound of their voices echoed down the street, from a few households with open windows, a soft hum of hushed yet cheerful conversation mingling with the occasional laughter.

Like what the guards were told earlier in the afternoon, everyone was gathered outside the village gates.

Coco stood beside Alithe, a polite smile on her face as she observed the men surrounding them, her posture straight and composed.

Her dark hair framed her face, a few tendrils pulled back into a ponytail, as he stood with a casual grace, her body relaxed and her hands casually resting by her sides.

She was surrounded by the guards from the main city, the men a ring of black and steel around her and Alithe.

Some of them eyed her with curiosity and concern, others with disdain and disbelief— a crowd with mix opinions regarding the person who will lead them across the forest.

It was still clear that they don’t like the fact that she will be leading them, but they can’t do anything because this was a mission that will give them a promotion if they did well, the captain of the order had promised to do so.

Humming, the dark haired man beside Coco spoke up and caught everyone’s attention.

"Since it seems that everyone is here.. We will be departing towards south in a few minutes." Alithe announced as he turned to the vice captain with a nod of his head and the vice captain returned the gesture.

"The vice captain of the order will be conducting a second inspection through our equipments to check if we forgot someghing. Be on your best behavior and cooperate so we can depart as soon as possible." Alithe said, making the guards fall in line.

Then, Alithe turned to the vice captain.

"Come and find us after you’re done." He stated, nudging his head towards the path down the forest.

"Yes, sir." The vice captain of the guards nodded, his expression serious as he looked over the faces of the men under his command.

Coco watched him as he walked around the group, inspecting the equipment held by each man with a critical eye while the other guards stood still, their gazes on the vice captain as he checked each item.

Coco hummed softly and snap her attention to Alithe when she felt a nudge on her left arm.

"Come on, I have to talk to you about something for a moment." Alitle mumbled under his breath and made sure that it was loud enough so only Coco could hear what he said.

"He sounds serious." A certain fairy commented, whispering to Coco’s ears.

Tell me about it. Coco thought to herself, agreeing wholeheartedly to Lala’s commentary with a polite smile on her face.

"Sure." Coco agreed to Alithe’s request and started following behind him as he walked forward a few steps, far enough from the guards as the vice captain made his round among the guards.

Alithe stopped walking, which made Coco to stop walking as well, and kept his gaze down the path that leads deeper into the forest, a grave expression on his face.

"Salamandara has not told me anything about you except for you being strong and diligent." Alithe started with a frown as he clenched his fists by his side, "But she’s my friend so I’m going to trust her."

Coco raised an eyebrow, not really sure where he was getting at, but reluctantly nodded her head.

"Okay.." Coco said, her voice slowly trailing off.

"She told me that you know what we are." Alithe turned around to face her and caused her to blink her eyes owlishly, "You know what she is and what her ability is."

"Yes, and?" Coco answered blatantly as she raised an eyebrow again.

Alithe walked towards her and once he’s close enough, he leaned towards Coco’s face, his face hovering closely to Coco’s with his expression looking solemn and grave.

"Hey! Only Lala gets to be that close to Coco’s face!" The garden fairy exclaimed, but of course, it fell to deaf ears.

Alithe lowered his voice, making sure that no one else could hear his words and spoke in a hushed tone as his eyes flickered around to make sure that no one was eavesdropping.

"I can hear everything until a hundred meters." he said, his voice barely above a whisper.

"What a useful abilty." Coco blinked, amazed.

"Yes." Alithe said as a smile slowly etched its way to his attractive face, "I can hear everything, even that high pitched voice that seem to linger around you." ƒrēenovelkiss.com

Coco’s face remained amazed, but her heart dropped to her stomach at what he said.

She could feel Lala’s grip on her hair tightening and she could feel the garden fairy’s anxiety as she shrinked back on Coco’s shoulder, hinding behind the few strands framed Coco’s face.

Coco tried to keep the expression still on her face as she struggle to keep her voice steady, a hint of feigned confusion creeping into her words. "What do you mean?"

She played dumb, her tone betraying no hint of nervousness as she repeated, feigning ignorance. "A voice?"

"We’re all set on our equipment, Guild Master."

Luckily for Coco, the vice captain of the guard spoke up at that moment, drawing her attention away from Alithe.

"All ready to go."
