Chapter 238: The truth about that day

"I didn’t want to say anything about this, but.. What did you mean about a black dust? And how did that kill me in the first place?"

Coco has always been curious about what happened to her when she died, but she did not have the heart to ask about it because she knows that Lala would be reminded of what she did and will feel guilty.

Sure, she was not sure what to feel in the beginning and felt bad for the fairy because she was crying so much, but right now, her curiosity is its peak.

The reaction of the fairy towards her words was immediate, Lala’s body grew stiff and tense as her red eyes widened slightly in surprise, the expression of disbelief and fright are as clear as day in her face.

"Coco, I could tell you what happened myself—" The garden fairy rushed towards Coco, but she was too late.

The magical quill moved, the sharp tip of the old school pen scratching against the surface of the scroll as it scriblle the information Coco asked for.

[ The black dust is used as a medicine for the fairies in Fairy Dale and can cure a fairy from the corruption they had accumulated over the years of working with fairy dust, it was forbidden to use because the effects can be quite addictive. ]

Coco’s emerald irises moved from left to right as her gaze followed after the words the quill had written, the cursive letters revealing informations that made her eyebrows rose to her hairline.

"Let me guess.. That black dust is a medicine for the fairies, but a lethal poison to humans?" Coco asked, an unamused expression on her face.

[ Unfortunately, you are correct. ]

"I knew it." Coco grumbled under her breath and shook her head, "I remember tasting blood when I was dying, but my stomach was hurting at that time. What could be the cause of that pain?"

[ Black dusts may cause discomfort on a human organs at first. Usually, it starts with their lungs, then to their kidneys, to their stomach, and lastly, to their heart.. However, in your case, it went to your stomach first before the lungs. ]

Coco hummed softly in understanding as she read the written text on the scroll, a thoughtful look in her eyes.

"Guess that explains why I couldn’t breathe." Coco mumbled, then she turned to garden fairy who was staring at her with her eyebrows furrowed in worry, "Don’t worry, Lala. I’m not mad at you. I was just curious."

Lala bit the inside of her cheek and looked away from her human friend, her hands clutching the hem of her red dress to stop herself from crying.

She can’t cry right now, not when Coco wanted to know what happened that day.

"I was delivering a pouch of black dust to the third dimension because a friend of mine got stuck there and fell ill. She needed the black dust as soon as possible." Lala said as she tightened her grip on the hem of her dress and shifted her gaze to the floor.

"I needed to cross Earth, your dimension, the second dimension, to get to the third world.. Then, I happened to come across your house." The fairy’s eyebrows furrowed as she recalled what happened.

So.. Earth is the second world or dimension? And the world I’m in right now is the youngest, which is the fifth dimension? Coco thought to herself, blinking owlishly.

"I was trying to cross through the crack of your dimension that was open in your room.. You were sleeping when I slipped through the window.." Lala’s voice got quieter as tears welled up on the corner of her eyes with her lower lip quivering. freewebnσvel.cѳm

"I.. I.. I messed up.. " The tears that was forming in Lala’s eyes started to roll down her cheeks, "I bumped into the curtains and accidentally let go of the pouch."

Coco’s heart throbbed at the sight of the garden fairy’s tears, but she doesn’t want to make Lala stop from telling her what happened that day because if now’s not the good time, then when will be the good time to ask about it?

So, Coco clasped her hands together and steeled her resolve, listening to Lala tell her more about what happened.

"The pouch fell in your face and the knot of the ribbon come undone when it hit you.." Lala sniffled and wiped the tears streaming down her cheeks, "I panicked.. I panicked and stared at you.. I didn’t know what to do.."

Scritch.

Scritch.

Scritch.

The audible sound of the quill’s tip scratching against the scroll’s surface reached Coco’s ears.

She looked away from the fairy and turned to the scroll, her gaze landing on the newly written text with a raised eyebrow and pursed lips.

[ You inhaled all of the contents of the pouch which led to your death. My sister contacted me in the midst of trying to save you from dying, but you were already coughing so I figured that it was too late by then. ]

Coco read through the cursive letters, soaking in the information of her death.

"That black dust must have been so deadly that it killed me right then and there." Coco laughed halfheartedly under her breath, remembering the time when she woke up and tasting blood inside her mouth.

"I’m so sorry, Coco..!" Lala cried out and kept wiping her tears using her sleeve, "I promise I didn’t mean to.. I tried.. I really tried to save you.."

[ Even if she did manage to save you that day, you would still die a week later or so because the effect of a small sniff of the black dust is slow, but will surely kill the human who got a whiff of it. ]

Reading Lulu’s statement in the scroll made Coco hum softly, nodding her head in understanding as she reached out to Lala.

"There’s no use crying over a spilled milk, Lala." Coco said with a small smile.
