New World, New Life: I Became A Bigshot In The Ancient World-Chapter 176: WHO’S THE BOSS?
Chapter 176: WHO’S THE BOSS?
Adeline opened her mouth after the door closed, placing the tray on the bedside table.
"Princess, I was so worried when you suddenly fainted for no reason."
Owen nodded in agreement with her words, showing that he too was equally worried. However, Aristia didn’t notice the strange look he passed Adeline.
’She wasn’t only worried, but angry too.’
"Princess, you have a daemon. This has never happened before." Adeline turned around.
She was talking about a female owning a daemon which was unheard of. A daemon was something that even proud noble boys desired, and those who had boasted endlessly about it and were praised for it.
Yet, her princess actually had a daemon. Adeline was beyond happy, even feeling proud. Her princess deserved to have and be the best!
Aristia smiled brightly at Adeline, stealing her heart all over again. Adeline clutched her chest like she would die.
[So dramatic.] Aristia shook her head with a smile.
She turned to Owen and asked, "Did anything happen at the Vanilla Courtyard while I was unconscious?"
Owen gave a short summary of the restaurant. "The Vanilla Courtyard has been progressing as usual. There is also an increase in the number of patrons. Nothing out of the ordinary happened, and there has been no disturbances."
Adeline spoke before Aristia could respond.
"Princess, you have just woken up. You cannot talk about business." Adeline said in a chiding tone, with a look of disapproval on her face.
Adeline once again took on the role of doctor. She continued, "Princess needs to relax and rest."
[Stop acting like an old woman, you’re still a teenager.] Aristia scoffed mentally.
"Three days of rest is already enough, Linny." She replied with a deadpan expression on her face.
Even though she said that, she still listened to Adeline’s well-meant advice and stopped asking about work-related matters.
She held back a yawn. She still felt a bit tired.
"What?" She asked when Owen kept staring at her.
"Are you really alright?" Owen asked.
[Aww. Is he worried about me?]
"Why wouldn’t I be?" She asked.
Owen gave her a pointed look.
Aristia smiled and teased. "Are you worried about me, Owen?"
"Why wouldn’t I be?" Owen replied with a poker face, causing Aristia to almost choke. She hadn’t expected him to admit it. He had also used her question.
She caught a small smirk on his face.
[You crafty little—]
She put her hand over her chest and stared at Owen. "I am touched."
Owen stared at her without saying anything for a moment. He hid his embarrassment and shook his head at her behavior.
"Adeline is right. You need to rest. I’ve been taking care of the businesses and will continue doing it until you fully recover."
[Who’s the boss here?] Aristia thought speechlessly. [It’s so sweet. Owen cares about me so much. It reminds me of modern Owen. But I’m not sick.]
She was about to speak but stopped on seeing Owen’s stance. He looked like he would tell Wilson and Catherine that she insisted on working.
She gave in, "Alright." Then turned to Adeline. "Thank you for taking care of me, Linny."
Adeline was her personal maid, she knew she would be the one taking care of her.
Adeline smiled widely, "It’s nothing, Princess. Their highnesses also stayed awake to take care of you."
"I’m leaving now, princess." Owen bowed and left the room.
After a while, Aristia dismissed Adeline. "Linny, I would like to be alone."
"Yes, princess." Adeline nodded with a bow and left the room.
Aristia wanted some time to organize her thoughts and emotions. freewёbnoνel.com
Now that she was finally alone, she could process everything that just happened. There were strange things happening and she had no idea why.
Her face formed a scowl.
"Why, why, why?" She muttered, her eyes filled with confusion.
[Why do I have a daemon? In the book, Aristia never had a daemon. So why...?]
She obviously wasn’t supposed to have a daemon, neither was she supposed to have aura in the first place. Yet, she had manifested both.
It wasn’t written in the book that Aristia had a daemon or aura. Was it just not written or did the book Aristia not have it in the first place? Why was this happenimg to her? She just couldn’t wrap her head around it.
The difference between the plot and reality had become so big. If it was something like everyone hating her when the book said that everyone loved her, that could be manageable. Maybe the plot actually meant that everyone began to love her after she turned seven when the book began officially.
But something as big as having aura and a daemon? This difference had become unmanageable! Why was everything changing so much?!
She had roughly known the trajectory of this world, but now, she wasn’t sure what was going to happen.
It was a bit scary not knowing what was going to happen because it was a book.
If it was the real world, you would say to let fate take its course. But in a fantasy world, literally anything could happen. Even something that didn’t make sense could turn out to be drastic to her.
She had so many questions but little to no answers. It made her head spin a little.
In the end.
"There’s nothing I can do," she whispered, and Millie looked up at her.
Looking at those eyes looking up at her curiously before laying back down, Aristia sighed.
[The truth is that I manifested a daemon. It’s not like I can throw Millie away or chase her away. I can’t give her away either.]
A yawn escaped her lips. Somehow, she was sleepy. Especially after having food in her stomach.
"Even after four days of resting?" She muttered to herself, amazed that she still had room for sleep.
She looked down at Millie on her lap again, noticing that Millie was also looking up at her too.
"My own daemon." She closed her eyes. She had to admit that she liked this feeling very much.
She lay down on the bed, no longer leaning on the bedpost, with Millie in her arms.
Millie’s soft furry body was like a soft and fluffy pillow. Holding the cat in her arms, she slowly fell asleep.
The next time she woke up, it was dinner time.
She opened her eyes in confusion and shifted on the bed, feeling the soft furry creature in her arms.
Right... she had a daemon now.
She left the daemon on the bed and stood up.
The daemon followed after immediately, but remained on the bed.
"I need to take a bath, Millie." Aristia placated the daemon.
Adeline came to check on her and smiled when she saw that she was awake.
"Princess is awake. I will prepare the bath."
"Okay. Millie will also take a bath."
"Oh... yes, princess." Adeline left the room.
Aristia headed towards the bathroom with Millie in her arms.
As a newly manifested daemon, Millie wasn’t dirty, but Aristia still felt the need to wash her.
"It will be your first bath." She said to Millie, who only stared at her.
She thought daemons could communicate with their humans, but she couldn’t hear Millie. Was it something about connection? She would ask her father.
After Adeline was done with preparing her and Millie’s bath, Aristia entered the bathroom.
Adeline had prepared a wooden basin for Millie.
A thought flashed in Aristia’s mind.
[I wonder how Millie will react to water, since she’s in the form of a cat.]
Aristia slowly put Millie into the water.
Before her soft paws could touch the water, Millie jumped nimbly out of her arms and landed on the floor.
[What did I expect? Of course she would exhibit cat-like characteristics. But... what’s her real form?] Aristia thought, intrigued.
After everything, Millie still was bathed by Aristia. As soon as she was in the water, she remained calm and didn’t try to get out.
It was a peculiar sight to Aristia to see the cat sitting quietly and being bathed in the water with no further resistance.
[Gosh! Millie’s fur is soft to touch.]
After bathing Millie, Aristia dried her with the towel, before she entered her bath tub to take a bath.
Once she was done, she scooped Millie into her arms and exited the bathroom.
"We’ll be going to the dining room for dinner, Millie. You should be hungry after not eating too." Aristia said to Millie.
Millie had been manifested three days ago, and when she had been unconscious for three days, Millie had remained by her side.
The daemon probably hadn’t eaten anything.
After getting dressed, Adeline brushed her hair. While she did so, Aristia brushed Millie’s fur. All the while, Millie just remained cuddled in her arms.
They headed to the breakfast table with Millie still in her arms.
While walking to the dining room, they passed by quite a lot of servants.
