New World, New Life: I Became A Bigshot In The Ancient World-Chapter 175: SHAPESHIFTING DAEMON?
Chapter 175: SHAPESHIFTING DAEMON?
The animal suddenly transformed into a bird— a grey hawk. The top of its head and the tail was now a bluish-silver colour, and beneath the wings contained a streak of silver colour. Its eyes remained the same, just more bird-like.
It flapped its wings under the shocked gazes of Aristia’s family, Adeline and Owen. Even Wilson could not hide his shock.
Aristia’s eyes widened in shock.
"What. Just. Happened." She felt like cursing after everything that had happened. ƒrēenovelkiss.com
The creature, sensing that there was no danger, lowered its position closer to the bed.
Then, as if the shock of becoming a bird when it was supposed to be a fox was not enough, it became a cat midway, falling softly on the bed.
This time, the words slipped from her mouth unabashed.
"What the fuck?!"
The family couldn’t even focus on the brash word that had left their supposedly cute, innocent daughter’s lips. The shock of their daughter not only having a daemon but the daemon changing forms outweighed her cussing.
The daemon itself paid no mind to the reactions of the humans. Instead, it kept staring at Aristia.
Wilson’s face had turned expressionless.
’My daughter’s daemon just changed forms.’
’Huh? I have never heard of such a thing happening.’ His daemon replied. Its voice was tinged with curiosity.
No one understood what was happening.
"Tia’s daemon just changed forms." Catherine held her mouth over her mouth in disbelief.
It seemed that was the only thing anyone could say. Who had ever heard of a daemon changing forms?
Her words attracted Aristia’s attention.
"Daemon? So, that’s what it is." Aristia rubbed her chin. Her hand paused. Wasn’t it only males that could manifest daemons?
Her heart rippled. What on Earth was going on?
She looked at the animal that happened to be looking at her too. After some thought, she scooted closer to the now cat daemon and reached out her hand to touch its head.
When the animal didn’t show any aversion and even leaned its head closer into her small palms, she carried it in her arms.
She rubbed its fur gently and the daemon purred softly with its eyes closed.
A smile unknowingly appeared on Aristia’s face. Her heart felt like it was being tickled with a soft, fluffy feather.
[C-cute. So cute. Too cute! I’ve never seen such an adorable animal.]
Just looking at it and she felt like like squeezing and cuddling it. Especially since it had such a satisfying expression on its face just because she was touching it. How lovely was that!
[But still...]
Aristia’s hand paused and she regained her composure. She turned to Wilson.
[He should have answers. Right...?]
The daemon raised its head when it could no longer feel her soft hand caressing its body.
Seeing that, Aristia continued her movement.
Were daemons able to change forms? She had never seen Ivan’s daemon, Shadowfax, change forms.
She obviously wouldn’t ask why she had a daemon in the first place, as she also had aura, which females weren’t know or supposed to have.
Therefore, there was no need to ask why. However, there was no need to ask whether it was normal for daemons to change forms. Judging from their reactions, this wasn’t normal.
Aristia lowered her head. She had no idea how to react to that. She looked down at the daemon in her arms. It was just like the colour of her hair and eyes— grey fur and purple eyes.
That, plus the fact that it had formed from the ball of light she saw when she was unconscious, and she felt a sort of connection to the animal, proved that it really was a daemon that belonged to her.
The daemon was also female. It was obvious as it didn’t look like a male to her.
Wilson’s eyes were complex as he stared at her.
This daughter of his... It was like after one surprise was over, they would receive another.
However, he couldn’t tell why all these strange things happened to his daughter. First it was aura, and now a daemon which only males were known to have. He had to figure out why his daughter’s daemon was different.
He leaned down and rubbed Aristia’s head, did the same to Alaric, and kissed Catherine’s forehead.
An unknown emotion flashed in his eyes as he turned around and left the room, closing the door softly behind him.
[Where’s he going?] Aristia couldn’t help but wonder.
’Ask that bastard to leave whatever it is he’s doing if he still wants to be alive to complete it.’ Wilson growled in his mental link.
’Yes, master.’
Back in Aristia’s room.
With the daemon in her arms, Aristia tried to come down from the bed, but almost fell as she felt lightheaded.
"Not again." She muttered, sitting back on the bed.
Catherine’s gaze at Aristia was complicated.
"Prepare some porridge for the princess." She turned to Adeline. "Make it light as she has been unconscious for three days."
Adeline quickly left to do as told.
"Three days?" Aristia’s head snapped up in surprise almost suffering a whiplash. Was she actually unconscious for that long? No wonder she felt so weak.
She didn’t want to lie down so she leaned against the bedpost and waited for Adeline to bring the food.
Now that she was aware of how long she had been unconscious for, she felt hunger. She had been unconscious for three days, coupled with the first day when she formed the daemon. That meant she hadn’t eaten in four days.
She didn’t want to eat porridge, but she knew that was what her stomach would be able to digest after four days of an empty stomach.
While leaning against the bedpost, she looked around at her family standing in front of the bed. The drapery had been pulled open, so she could see them clearly. The room was also bright as it was the afternoon and the sun was out.
"We were so worried when you fainted." Catherine said.
"I’m sorry I made you all worry." Aristia said.
"It’s not your fault," Catherine shook her head with a smile.
Aristia nodded. She could see from the dark circles in her eyes that she hadn’t gotten enough rest. It was the same with Wilson. She could also see how worried they were. Even Owen looked tired.
Her heart swelled with warmth as she held her mother’s hand, her eyes fixed on the dark circles on her mother’s beautiful with slight heartache.
[Ah, I’ve really worried your noble self.]
Only Alaric looked normal. He was still a child, no matter how high the intelligence the royal family members possessed. Even if he wanted to stay awake, he wouldn’t be able to fight against his body and would probably fall asleep beside her.
She freed one of her hands and pinched his cheeks, causing him to pout.
Her daemon opened her eyes wide and snarled, not liking her divided attention.
[Possessive much?] Aristia smiled.
But this was her beloved younger brother. Her daemon would have to learn to share.
Adeline soon came in with a tray containing a...
[Steaming bowl of—]
Nope, not noodles, but light porridge.
Adeline came to feed her, but Aristia stopped her.
"I can feed myself, Linny." She said. She wasn’t crippled. She appreciated the help, but she didn’t want to be treated like a fragile doll when there was nothing wrong with her.
Adeline nodded and hesitantly handed the bowl of porridge to her.
Aristia grumbled in her mind as she stared at the watery porridge, but didn’t show.
[Adeline really is talented. She should have just cooked some water for me instead. There really is no difference between this bowl of porridge and a bowl of water.]
She scooped some porridge and blew on it and ate, no drank it. Her eyes lit up.
[Adeline is the best!]
The porridge was comparable to water in texture, but the taste was delightful. She didn’t forget to praise herself.
[As expected of me. It would be strange if she didn’t pick up my cooking skills after spending so much time with me.]
She ate the porridge hungrily like the hungry girl she was.
After she was done, she put the bowl back in the tray as Adeline collected it, then returned to leaning against the bedpost.
"Won’t you give your daemon a name?" Catherine asked when she saw that her daughter was done with eating.
"Oh. It slipped my mind."
Aristia thought for a moment of a suitable name to give the cute animal in her arms.
[What will I name her?] Looking at the daemon, only one name came to mind.
[Anna-kat.]
But...
"I will call you... Millie." Aristia said to the daemon. "Do you like it?"
The daemon purred and rubbed itself against her to show that it liked the name she had given it.
"Millie sounds like a beautiful name." Catherine smiled as she stroked her daughter’s head, moving to sit beside her.
This time, Millie didn’t snarl or react. She just lay in Aristia’s arms like a real lazy cat.
After staying for a while in the room, Catherine and Alaric left, leaving Owen and Adeline in the room with Aristia.
