New World, New Life: I Became A Bigshot In The Ancient World-Chapter 173: DAEMON (1)
Chapter 173: DAEMON (1)
Wilson didn’t spare the physician a glance, turning instead to gaze at Aristia who lay on the bed, while Catherine returned to her place beside Aristia, continuing to wipe Aristia’s burning body, not caring about the physician.
She shared the same thoughts as her husband, she just didn’t want to keep the useless physician in her daughter’s room any longer.
Catherine and her husband had the same thoughts as they stared at their daughter’s pale but peaceful face.
What happened? Was it really because she had been training too hard?
The door opened and the butler came in. He gave a respectful bow before speaking.
"Master, the mage cannot come as he is away on another land carrying out an important task." Butler Henry relayed the news, feeling slightly nervous and annoyed.
What was the mage thinking not leaving his ’important task’ for the Imperial Prince?
His eyes flitted over Aristia for a second, worried for the health of the princess.
Wilson pinched the bridge of his nose in frustration, but it wasn’t like he could do anything. He walked towards the bed and sat down on the other side of her.
The room was quiet with the only sound being when Catherine was dipping the cloth into the water and wringing it. Adeline made no sound by the side, wishing for Aristia to wake up.
They stayed in Aristia’s room till the morning of the next day, barely catching any sleep, even though Adeline told them that she would be there to take care of her princess.
They soon left the room, leaving Adeline still wiping Aristia’s body. The family had to take their baths, change their clothes, and have some food, even though they had little to no appetite.
Towards the afternoon, the door to her room opened and her parents and younger brother entered. Adeline stood up and bowed.
When she caught Catherine’s gaze, she shook her head. "The princess’s temperature has still been rising."
Wilson and Catherine approached the bed. They both sat down and stared at her face for a long time with worry in their eyes.
Aristia lay still on the bed. Her eyes were tightly shut and her skin was slightly pale even though it was burning hot.
"Tia, my baby, please wake up." Catherine gently caressed her face. "Please, show me your beautiful eyes."
.
.
.
Aristia was walking. She had been walking for a long time.
"Where am I?" She asked for the umpteenth time. Her voice fading as it echoed in the void.
"Really."
"Where the hell am I?"
She had no explanation for what was happening, and she had no one to answer her. There was only darkness all around her.
It had been the same for hours; she wasn’t even sure what time it was or how long had passed— if it really was hours or just minutes.
But it felt like ages to her. The darkness around her made it hard to see. She had no idea if she was walking in circles or not.
She stopped and sighed, bringing her hand up to rub down her face.
All of a sudden, a ball of light appeared in the distance in front of her, floating in midair. It slightly illuminated the flat ground in front of her.
"What?" She was stunned when it suddenly appeared in front of her. She approached it, but the ball moved away. She stood there in shock, watching the ball of light move away.
She followed it, but anytime she reached it, it would move further away.
"Are you playing with me?" She asked out loud. She had reasons to think so as whenever she approached the ball, it would move away like it was teasing her.
The next thing she knew, the ball of light started floating away, not stopping anymore. Aristia rushed to follow it, chasing after it.
She didn’t know how long she had run, but she had begun to feel tired.
Her speed slowed down, but the ball of light increased its pace. The illuminated path beneath the ball also became dark like before. The next moment, the light ball was out of sight as if it had disappeared.
Aristia settled to walking in the direction she had seen it.
It wasn’t an easy task.
[Try finding your way in the darkness.]
"How big is this void, to not be able to see a ball of light?" She muttered in both frustration and curiosity.
She didn’t know how much time passed, but she finally saw the ball of light again floating in the air. This time, it was just as the first time she saw it— still and unmoving.
Slowly and cautiously, she approached it. This time, the ball didn’t move away. With each step she took nearer to the light ball, it got brighter. The strange thing was that it still didn’t illuminate the darkness even though it was very bright. The light also didn’t hurt her eyes.
"Why?" She muttered. "Its intensity is enough to make a person go blind."
She now stood in front of the ball. It didn’t seem harmful, instead she felt warmth from it. Slowly, she stretched out her hand, noticing that her hand was glowing a translucent colour. She ignored it, still focused on touching the light ball. Her hand was just inches away from it now.
"I wonder... will it hurt?"
Just as she muttered that, her still glowing hand made contact with the ball of light.
The ball of light that was originally calm, seemed to ripple, sparks of different colours escaping it and entering it, like lightning on a thunderstorm.
Immediately, the light spread from the ball of light, brightening the void with a flashing speed.
Aristia’s eyes opened, staring at the ceiling in front of her and feeling confused.
[What was that?]
She blinked multiple times. She was clearly in her room, not in the dream’s void. She recalled her glowing hand.
[My hand... is it still glowing?] She raised her hand to check.
However, someone was holding on to it.
"Tia, you’re awake!"
Catherine spoke with joy. She had just taken a new bowl of water from Adeline to wipe Aristia’s body and had just finished. Aristia’s body temperature was no longer going up, but it wasn’t going down either. Her skin still looked pale.
She held her daughter’s hand in hers, praying for her to wake up, when after a few minutes, she felt her daughter’s hand move. Oh, the joy that filled her heart when she saw that her daughter had awakened.
"Thank goodness, you’re alright." Catherine immediately embraced Aristia, hugging her tight in her arms. She addressed Adeline, "Adeline, prepare some food for the princess."
’She must be very hungry’. She thought as Aristia hadn’t eaten anything all morning till afternoon after the last dinner she had, since she had been unconscious.
"Right away, your Highness." Adeline bowed and left the room quickly to prepare some food for her princess.
Catherine’s voice and movement woke Alaric, who had been sleeping beside his sister.
"Tia, you’re awake!" He cried out excitedly, happy that his sister had finally woken up, his hands quickly winding around her in a hug.
Well, he tried to find space in his mother’s arms to hug her. Thankfully, Catherine released Aristia.
At that moment, the door opened and Wilson hurried in. He sighed in relief upon seeing his only daughter awake after almost a day of being unconscious.
He approached the bed and patted her head, his actions gentle. "How are you feeling?"
Aristia slowly retracted her hand that was hugging back Alaric.
[They’re all very worried.] She observed, staring at their faces which were filled with both concern and relief.
She opened her mouth to answer Wilson’s question, but couldn’t when she felt a sensation in her chest.
Then to everyone’s shock, a ball of light the size of a football came out of her chest.
Gasp!
The shock in the room was palpable. Even Alaric was stunned speechless and forgot to speak.
[What the—] Aristia, who excelled at controlling her emotions, was left with her mouth hanging open in shock.
As if that was not enough, the ball of light, which floated a little distance away from her above the bed, began changing.
It morphed into an animal, slowly taking the shape of a fox. It was exceedingly beautiful, with light grey fur with streaks of silver, and the enchanting purple jewels that were its eyes. They sparkled like crystals.
It stared directly into Aristia’s eyes while still floating in the air, and right at that moment, Aristia felt a connection between herself and the animal.
All of a sudden, Aristia felt another wave of dizziness hit her, feeling weak as if all her strength and energy had been sapped out of her, and for the second time, she blacked out, her body falling backwards towards the bed.
Catherine quickly caught her in her arms and gently placed her on the bed, staring at her previously awake but now unconscious daughter in shock.
"A daemon."
