Chapter 58 - The Queen’s Worries(18+)

It was later in the day after Astoria was done organizing everything for the celebration for the new king. She sat in her room with Hestia sitting across the coffee table. Deep in thought about what had happened earlier that day, she couldn't believe that Wolf wasn't listening to her already, despite her tests having yet to be concluded.

"I want to see if he can manage the naval fleet first and then recoup Leviathan, but..." Talking to herself without realizing it, she took a sip from her steaming cup. But as the liquid hit her tongue and her mind cleared, she realized that Hestia was still sitting in front of her.

Staring right back, the head maid curiously hummed to the queen's words. Knowing full well the embarrassment of speaking out loud when you thought you were thinking to yourself, she remained quiet about the matter, but not about something else.

"Speaking of the king." Setting her cup to rest, she took a deep breath and sighed. "Tomorrow shall be your first night with him. Do you wish for anything special in his room? Clothing? Apparatus? Decor? Anything, let me know and I will ensure that it's there when you need it."

Looking away from her the very next instant, Astoria grew a bright blush, streaking across her face. Covering her mouth while leaning against the table, she tried not to speak until Hestia decided to speak again.

"If you do not mind me asking, your highness. How was your relationship in bed with the late king? Was he a good love maker?" Blinking in disbelief that this was even a topic, Astoria slowly turned to Hestia and answered.

"N-not really, but why are you asking me such embarrassing things?"

Grabbing the cup in her hand again, Hestia brought it closer to her ceramic mask. Pressing it against her cream painted lips, she responded while blowing at the cup.

"Some of the girls Wolf has been with–the maids at least, they have trouble walking for days after those special nights, and the last thing I would want is for you to go through the same." Lifting her gaze, she took a quiet sip while the queen's blush grew deeper still. At a loss for words, Astoria was still unable to comprehend why this was even a topic of discussion between the two. "Not to mention he's much younger than the late king, and if the rumors are true, colossally big–I'm sure you would know what I mean."

'C-colossal?' Turning her head away again, Astoria could feel her heart pounding. The realization that she would be sleeping with him tomorrow made her chest tighten.

"An-an exaggeration, I'm sure!" Heaving a hefty sigh, she took a deep gulp from her cup of coffee. Glancing between Hestia and her cup, however, she was having a hard time convincing her as well as herself. "I've heard those rumors, some say...It's as big and fat as a rolling pin, others say different sizes, all above twelve or fifteen inches, but as if that's possible."

Letting out a nervous laugh, she tried to calm herself by making light of the situation. Quickly turning her body to the front, she even decided to change the topic of their conversation.

"Whatever the case may be, I need to focus on the fight between him and Kayla tonight instead. It'll take place long after the celebration is over, so don't sleep early. We might need you to heal Wolf's injuries."

"Kayla and him?" Taking a brief pause, Hestia blankly stared at her held cup. She knew the fight between them would be uneven, but if Wolf could pull off shattering a heavenly shield, then perhaps the difference in their ranks wouldn't really matter. "An upper Rank-A against an Upper Rank–B, that would be an interesting fight to witness, I suppose."

"And hopefully not entirely one-sided..." As much as she trusted in Wolf, Kayla had been a war general since her childhood. Trained from the moment she could walk, the cambion was trained to withstand any blow, any disease and any poison. What little could shatter her was blighted by her affinity for necromancy. "A woman who can't die if she so chooses not to. I doubt it'd be easy for Wolf to make her give up."

One worry on top of the other, from getting rid of the dragonkin as a test to recouping Leviathan, the queen had loads and loads to worry about, and sprinkled in between was sleeping with Wolf and also passing judgment on her son rotting in the dungeons.

'William...I'll come talk to you once this mess has been untangled.' Making herself that promise, she spent some time quietly finishing her coffee. And the moment her cup was empty, her eyes lifted to Hestia, and the maid appeared to be done as well. Silence took hold between the two, but then as a devious smile took over Hestia, she teased.

"Any toys, your highness? The young these days love plugging up the rear."

"HESTIA!" As Astoria screamed, the head maid–a woman who was many centuries old leapt off the ground laughing like a little kid. Covering her mouth with one hand, she grabbed the tray resting on the table and quickly made her way towards the exit. Laughing all the way to the door, she kept her mouth that never moved covered regardless.

"I suppose I should've asked the king instead–" The moment Hestia uttered those words, with her eyes glancing at Astoria over her shoulders, she was picked up from the back of her collar by an invisible hand. However, unbothered despite being lifted in the air, she continued to laugh while the whisperer carried her out of the room.

'These hags and their dirty jokes...' This wasn't Astoria's first time hearing such jokes from an older woman. Behind closed doors, it was very common for the ladies to talk dirty to each other about their husbands. Of course, some decorum was held to not make the situation spiral out of control completely. But even then, the older ladies often tried to push the boundaries, knowing they could get away with it for the mere fact of being elders. 'Feels like when I was supposed to marry William's father all over again.'

Even back then, Astoria wasn't spared the embarrassment. The only difference in the current situation from the last, however, was the fact that the king was old, and there were few expectations towards anything sexual.

"Zosa, if anyone tries to listen in on me and Wolf like they did with me and William's father, kick them off a cliff, would you?" As embarrassing as it was for her to admit that the night was bound to happen, at least having the assurance that nobody was listening made things feel slightly better.

'As you wish, my lady.' With those words of the female whisperer, the time for leisure came to an end.
