Chapter 26 - Tension

Today, Aira planned to go to the hospital to check on her pregnancy, and she was accompanied by Saki, who was off work. Besides checking on her pregnancy, Aira also wanted to have a 4D ultrasound to find out the gender of her baby.

The two women, with different marital statuses, went to the hospital in Renji's private car, driven by Fujita. Renji happened to go to school by motorcycle today because of Aira's hospital schedule, and he wanted Fujita to drop off and pick up Aira and Saki, ensuring both of them were safe.

At the hospital, they accidentally ran into Maki, who was with Kairo, who was also there to check on her pregnancy.

"Ah, it's you two. How are you?" Kairo asked warmly as he sat next to Saki, joining the queue.

Saki put on an unfriendly face. She had long wanted to meet Kairo and his devilish wife to scold them on behalf of Aira.

"You can see for yourself," Saki replied curtly.

Kairo only smiled stiffly in response, while Maki secretly gave Aira a sidelong glare.

After exchanging greetings, Kairo walked away to take a phone call, leaving the three women alone. The tense atmosphere between them was palpable.

"Where's your husband, Aira?" Maki asked as if mocking her.

"He has an exam at school today so that he couldn't accompany me," Aira answered honestly, given that her husband was still a high school student.

"That's what happens when you have a child for a husband," Maki sneered.

"None of your business, wide forehead," Saki snapped back, defending Aira, who remained silent. However, her eyes were welling up with tears.

"How dare you speak to me so rudely, you country girl," Maki retorted, unable to accept Saki's words.

"Who are you calling a country girl, you shameless woman?" Saki shot back, standing up and glaring fiercely at Maki.

"A rude, ill-mannered girl like you is a perfect match for Aira," Maki scoffed, smirking at Saki.

Saki clenched her fists tightly at her sides. "At least I'm not a backstabber like you, you shameless homewrecker," Saki pointed angrily, defending her best friend, Aira.

"Stop it, Saki-chan," Aira whispered, trying to calm Saki down before the situation attracted too much attention or escalated into a fight.

"Who are you calling a homewrecker, huh?" Maki's eyes widened sharply.

"You, of course!" Saki pointed at Maki's face, which was heavily made up, even for a hospital visit.

Maki crossed her arms and looked down at Saki, whom she considered beneath her, especially since she was the daughter-in-law of the wealthy Kenzaki family. To her, Saki was nothing. "Blame your friend for being born poor, making Kairo turn to me instead."

"Better to be poor than to be born rich but heartless and shameless, stealing your friend's boyfriend. You're lower than Aira."

Maki's anger boiled over. She felt a country girl like Saki had trampled her pride, and it seemed she needed to teach Saki a lesson to make her aware of her place.

Just as Maki was about to slap Saki, unexpectedly, a pale-skinned young man appeared and grabbed Maki's hand. "Stop this, Miss Kenzaki," he said firmly.

"Who do you think you are, daring to interfere with me?" Maki glared at the young man in front of her.

"I'm nobody special, but coincidentally, Renji Ishikawa is my cousin, and I'm the grandson of Kaito Ishikawa," he explained casually.

"You?!"

"So, you should know the consequences of messing with an Ishikawa."

"I have a problem with that girl, not Aira."

"Too bad, because this beautiful girl..." Tetsuya trailed off, glancing at Saki and winking, causing her to shudder as she sensed something was about to happen. "She's my girlfriend, the future mother of my children," Tetsuya continued smoothly, without hesitation or guilt.

Saki's face turned pale, and her lousy intuition was proven right. She wanted to scream and deny Tetsuya's one-sided claim. Since when were they dating? They fought or exchanged harsh words whenever they were near each other.

The thought of being Tetsuya's girlfriend made her shudder in fear—it was more terrifying than anything else.

Maki forcefully pulled her hand away and left the three of them. For now, she might have lost because of Tetsuya, but she would get back at Saki another time.

The situation calmed down after Maki, the troublemaker, left. However, for Saki, the trouble wasn't over. After the fox left, the crocodile arrived—the one who flirted with other people's partners.

"Have you lost your mind, huh? Pale face!" Saki scolded, placing her hands on her hips and glaring at Tetsuya.

"Maybe because I'm head over heels for Issei-chan," he replied, cupping his cheeks and smiling shyly, making Saki even more furious.

"You're asking for death, aren't you?!" Saki choked Tetsuya's neck, forgetting her anger for a moment.

"Let go, you ugly girl! It hurts!" Tetsuya protested.

Seeing the two bicker made Aira smile again, forgetting her earlier sadness, which made Saki both happy and relieved.

It was no secret that Saki and Tetsuya were like cats and mice—whenever they met, they would argue. However, it never escalated to physical violence.

Aira felt that Tetsuya harboured unique feelings for Saki. Maybe he was after Saki rather than Issei. However, that was just Aira's speculation, with no concrete evidence. Time would tell where fate would lead the two of them.

Aira's crescent-shaped eyes continued to gaze in awe and happiness at the 4D ultrasound photo from the hospital. Not only that, but the doctor's examination also revealed that the baby in her womb was developing well, and the baby's gender was a boy. This was undoubtedly good news and worth celebrating.

Saki and Tetsuya congratulated Aira, as did Fujita, who was also happy to hear the good news.

Although there had been an unpleasant incident earlier due to Maki, the wife of Aira's ex-boyfriend, who picked a fight by insulting Aira, thankfully, Saki was there to protect her with all her might from Maki's taunts and jabs, driven by jealousy and resentment toward Aira. Maki felt defeated by Tetsuya.

And just as the argument was heating up, who would have thought that Tetsuya would come to the rescue, even going so far as to declare in front of Maki that Saki was his future wife? Of course, this caused a stir for Aira, while Saki felt angry, annoyed, and unhappy.

After finishing the visit to the obstetrician, to celebrate Aira's pregnancy and the fact that she was carrying a baby boy who would become the next heir to the Ishikawa family, Tetsuya planned to take Aira and Saki to a fancy restaurant owned by one of his old college friends.

However, the good intentions of the pale-skinned young man were politely rejected by Aira and Saki, who preferred to eat at a fast-food chain restaurant. They said fast food was more fun and cheaper than eating at a high-class restaurant where one meal would cost an arm and a leg.

Tetsuya had no other choice but to reluctantly obey the two women's orders, having no way of refusing or debating.

"What do you want to order, Pony?" Tetsuya asked at the counter, with Saki standing beside him, busy looking at the menu board.

"Be patient, Pale Face!" Saki snapped, elbowing Tetsuya in the stomach as a warning.

"Hurry up!" Tetsuya grumbled.

Saki glanced at him, annoyed, and stuck out her tongue. "Let me order for myself, but you're paying," she said commandingly.

Like a typical couple, the cashier serving them quietly smiled, finding their bickering sweet. They even looked quite compatible and well-matched.

"Fine. Go ahead and order the most expensive thing," Tetsuya said arrogantly.

"Okay," Saki replied with a happy smile, thinking, When else would I get treated to a meal by my arch-nemesis?

Although the two were arguing in a public place with many people around them waiting in line, to others, they looked like a typical couple having a lovers' quarrel, not like sworn enemies.

While Tetsuya and Saki went to order the food, Aira sat waiting for them to return. At the same time, Fujita stood guard outside, following Renji's orders to always keep an eye on her and protect her.

After waiting for nearly twenty minutes, Saki and Tetsuya returned, carrying a tray full of food.

"That's a lot!" Aira exclaimed, her eyes wide with surprise at the mountain of food Saki had brought.

"Once in a while, we should eat well and eat a lot, especially when it's free," Saki said with a beaming smile, feeling like she had drained Tetsuya's wallet without realizing that the amount he spent on the food was less than the price of the designer clothes he was wearing, which cost thousands of dollars.

"You're unbelievable," Aira scolded, shaking her head in disbelief.

Saki just chuckled softly in response to her friend's scolding. "Eat a lot," she said warmly, handing Aira a large burger.

Tetsuya sipped his cola, glancing nervously at Saki's tray piled high with various foods. She had ordered almost everything on the menu, which gave Tetsuya an idea to tease her—a topic to start another argument. A day without bickering with Saki felt incomplete and too quiet for him.

"Remember the fat on your stomach, Pony," he sneered, calling her by a new nickname inspired by a cartoon character he had watched last night, whose ponytail reminded him of Saki.

Saki was busy chewing her burger and shot him a displeased look. "None of your business," she retorted sharply.

Tetsuya suddenly put on a fake sad expression. "Poor Dei-chan, having to end up with someone as fat as you," he taunted.

Saki shot him a sharp glare. "You're calling me fat, huh?" Saki began to get riled up, and Tetsuya smiled happily at her reaction, pleased that he had successfully started an argument.

Tetsuya's tongue was itching, and he couldn't wait to engage in a verbal sparring match with Saki.

"Oh, so you admit it," Tetsuya said with a wicked smile, pretending to be innocent.

Saki's left hand clenched tightly, and she felt like grabbing Tetsuya's neatly styled hair and messing it up as if a storm had hit it.

Sitting between the two, Aira could only sigh softly because, once again, they were arguing—and as usual, Tetsuya was the one who started it.

"Enough. Enough, both of you, stop it," Aira intervened.

"He started it, not me!" Saki defended herself.

"Don't just accuse me. Besides, what I said was a fact, so why get mad?" Tetsuya retorted, refusing to take the blame.

"You!!" Saki growled.

"Control your temper, Saki-chan, and you, Tetsuya, stop provoking her," Aira advised her husband's cousin, who always seemed to enjoy picking fights with Saki.

"I'm not provoking her," Tetsuya argued, still refusing to admit fault.

Aira sighed quickly. "Okay. But can you two not argue this time? I want to eat in peace," Aira pleaded.

"Fine," Tetsuya finally relented, giving in for Aira's sake. A peaceful atmosphere finally settled after Aira stepped in, but little did they know that a storm was about to hit

While they were enjoying their meal, Tetsuya's dark, night-like eyes accidentally caught sight of a woman casually walking outside the restaurant—more specifically, heading straight toward him.

"Oh no!" Tetsuya thought, panicking.

Tetsuya's calm expression immediately turned pale as he saw the woman with long, flowing purple hair walking into the restaurant. Aira had met this woman once before. Sensing danger approaching, Tetsuya wasted no time and quickly fled to save himself, not wanting to deal with that terrifying woman.

Tetsuya, who was known for being fearless and always picking fights with anyone, now looked terrified and was trying to escape from the creature known as Keiko Uzui—a woman who had once relentlessly chased Renji but was now pursuing Tetsuya and disrupting his peaceful life.

"Just finish your meal without me," Tetsuya suddenly said, his face slightly panicked.

"Where are you going, Tetsuya?" Aira asked, confused by his strange behaviour.

"I just remembered I have something important to do, and I'll borrow Fujita for a bit to take me there," he replied, his eyes darting nervously, afraid Keiko might spot him.

"Okay, be careful on the way," Aira said.

"Why didn't he leave earlier?" Saki muttered softly, feeling relieved that the troublemaker was finally gone.

Tetsuya smiled briefly, glancing at Saki's face, which was turned away, unwilling to look at him.

Suddenly, Tetsuya shamelessly yanked Saki's ponytail hard, forcing her to tilt her head back. "I'm leaving, Pony," Tetsuya said as he walked away with a big grin.

"I'll get you back later, Pale Face!" Saki shouted angrily, pointing at Tetsuya, who had already fled.

Saki's face was scrunched up in annoyance as she rubbed her head. Tetsuya's pull had been quite strong, but thankfully, her ponytail wasn't ruined, and her hair was still neatly styled—even though it had taken her a long time to tie it up so perfectly.

Aira could only shake her head in disbelief at Tetsuya's antics, which she found amusing and childish.

"I think Tetsuya has feelings for you," Aira thought.

"Ugh..." Saki choked on the food she was chewing.

She quickly took a drink to clear her throat. "Don't say nonsense, Aira. You scared me."

"It's just my thought, don't think too much about it. Anyway, keep eating. I need to go to the restroom for a bit."

"Do you want me to come with you?" Saki was ready to stand up and follow Aira.

"No need," Aira stopped her, gently pressing Saki's shoulder to keep her seat.

"If you're not back in ten minutes, I'll come looking for you."

"Don't worry so much, Saki-chan."

"Of course, I'm worried. After all, I promised to take good care of you," Saki said anxiously.

"Thank you for worrying about me," Aira said as she left for the restroom, leaving Saki alone.

Not long after Aira left, a beautiful woman with long purple hair dressed in revealing clothing approached with a confused expression as if she were looking for someone. Saki, who saw her, felt puzzled by the woman's behaviour.

"Who are you looking for?" Saki asked curiously.

"Where did the man sitting here earlier go?" the beautiful woman asked in return.

"You mean Pale Face?" Saki asked, making sure the woman was indeed looking for Tetsuya.

"The one I'm looking for is Young Master Tetsuya, not Pale Face," the woman clarified, unaware of Saki's nickname for her nemesis.

"Same thing. But he's already left," Saki replied curtly.

"Where did he go?" the woman asked, her face filled with sadness and disappointment because Tetsuya was no longer there.

"I don't know. He said he had something important to do," Saki answered honestly, repeating what Tetsuya had said earlier.

The woman's beautiful face looked disappointed, even profoundly saddened, as if she desperately wanted to meet Tetsuya, longing for her lover after not seeing him for a long time.

Saki wasn't sure what kind of relationship they had. Still, if this beautiful woman honestly had feelings for Tetsuya or even had a special connection with him, it would be a good and joyful thing for Saki. Finally, her nemesis would have a partner and stop bothering Issei.

Deep down, Saki sincerely hoped that Tetsuya could be with this woman and become a couple so that her relationship with Issei could be peaceful and harmonious again, especially since they were now planning their wedding. Having this woman around would help Saki keep Tetsuya away from their lives.

Without saying goodbye or anything, the beautiful woman walked away from Saki after learning that Tetsuya was gone—or, more accurately, had fled.

"How strange," Saki muttered, shaking her head in confusion.
