Inside, the air was more incredible, the fog replaced by a faint golden light that seemed to come from the walls themselves. The room was small and bare, save for a single pedestal in the centre.

On the pedestal sat a small, glowing orb.

Kent’s eyes sparkled. "Now we’re talking!"

He approached the pedestal cautiously, half-expecting more ghouls to burst out of the ground. When nothing happened, he grinned and reached for the orb.

As his fingers closed around it, the system chimed.

Name: Soul Fragment Orb.

Description: Contains remnants of a mighty warrior’s soul. It can be used to enhance spiritual techniques or summon a temporary guardian. The host can also use it to level up Soulbinder Nima’s servants.

Kent whistled, holding the orb up to the light. "A temporary guardian, huh? Sounds handy. Wonder if it’ll look like a big, buff dude or something cool like a dragon."

He pocketed the orb, feeling quite pleased with himself. "Alright, let’s see what else this ruin offers!"

As Kent continued his journey, his stomach growled loudly, reminding him of his hunger.

"Man, all this ghoul smashing works up an appetite," he muttered. "Too bad there’s no ancient ruin cafeteria around here."

Just then, he spotted a strange patch of plants growing near the base of a hill. The leaves were broad and dark green, with small fruits dangling from the stems.

"Food!" Kent exclaimed, rushing over.

He picked one of the fruits and sniffed it cautiously. The smell was… unpleasant, to say the least.

"Ugh, it smells like Ryan’s gym clothes," Kent said, holding it at arm’s length. "But food is food, right?" But why do I always find weird things?

Taking a deep breath, he bit into the fruit. The taste was as bad as the smell, but the sudden surge of energy it gave him made it worth it.

"Whoa, this stuff’s like an energy bar from hell," Kent said, grabbing a few more. "Might as well stock up!"

He stuffed his backpack with the fruits, already plotting how to prank Ethan and others with them later.

As the sun—or whatever equivalent this strange ruin had—began to set, Kent found himself wandering through a maze of crumbling walls and narrow passages.

The eerie silence was occasionally broken by distant growls or the rustle of unseen creatures.

"Alright, this place is starting to feel like a horror movie," Kent muttered, gripping his hammer tightly. "Where’s the creepy music and jump scares?"

Just as he said, a sudden noise made him freeze.

RUSTLE!

SNAP!

Kent whirled around, his heart pounding. "Who’s there? Show yourself!"

Out of the shadows stepped… a rabbit.

A very fluffy, very non-threatening rabbit.

Kent stared at it for a moment before bursting into laughter. "A killer rabbit? Really? What’s next, a zombie squirrel?"

As Kent continued his solo exploration, the ground began to tremble once more. A low, ominous hum filled the air, growing louder with each passing second.

"Oh, great. What now?" Kent muttered, bracing himself.

From the distance, a beam of light shot into the sky, illuminating the ruins in an otherworldly glow.

"Looks like the main event is starting. It must be Nexus Jade fighting with something," Kent said, his grin returning. "Time to find those treasures before he finds the core—."

With his hammer in hand and his eyes on the horizon, Kent charged forward, ready for whatever the ruins had in store.

Kent strolled through the ruins, his oversized rock hammer still slung over his shoulder. The eerie silence of the ancient battlefield graveyard was broken only by the occasional growl of a distant ghoul or the crunch of debris beneath his boots.

"Alright, treasures, come to Papa," he said, rubbing his hands together and flashing his signature evil grin. "First, I find the loot. Then I—"

Suddenly, he stopped mid-step. The fog ahead swirled unnaturally, and faint shadows moved within it.

"System, appraisal, quick!" Kent whispered.

Ding!

Appraisal Activated.

Detected: Large group of Ghoul Soldiers. Threat Level: Level-E (Low).

Kent’s eyes widened. "Large group? How large are we talking here?" They are stronger than the previous ones.

CRACK!

RUMBLE!

The ground beneath him trembled as the first ghoul stepped out of the fog, followed by another, then another. Within moments, a massive horde of at least fifty ghouls emerged, their glowing eyes fixed on Kent.

"...Okay, that’s a lot." 😰

Kent tightened his grip on his hammer, his heart pounding with a mix of fear and excitement.

"Alright, you ugly mob rejects, let’s dance!" he shouted, planting his feet firmly on the ground.

The ghouls let out guttural growls as they charged at him.

GHRL! GHRL!

THUMP! THUMP!

Kent swung his hammer in a wide arc, sending the first wave of ghouls flying like ragdolls.

THWACK!

SPLAT!

"Ha! One hit KO!" Kent laughed, spinning the hammer in his hands. "Who’s next?"

But the ghouls kept coming, their numbers seemingly endless.

"Alright, time to step it up!" Kent said that summoning his hellfire, he created a fire circle. Flames erupted around him, casting flickering shadows on the crumbling ruins.

The next wave of ghouls charged straight into the flames, their rotting flesh sizzling on contact.

FWOOSH!

HISS!

Kent grinned as he dashed through the horde using his Flashing Step, leaving a trail of flames behind him.

"You guys really should’ve stayed dead!" he shouted, delivering a fiery uppercut to a particularly large ghoul.

BAM!

🔥

After what felt like hours of non-stop fighting, the last ghoul fell, dissolving into ash. Kent leaned on his hammer, panting.

"Phew… That was a workout," he muttered.

As the ash settled, Kent noticed something glimmering in the pile of ghoul remains. He bent down and picked up a small, round object.

Name: Spirit Core Fragment

Description: A shard of concentrated spiritual energy left behind by high-ranking ghouls. It can be used to enhance souls’ intelligence.

"Oho! What do we have here?" Kent said, holding the fragment up to the light. "This might come in handy later."

As Kent pocketed the fragment, his stomach growled loudly again. I was fighting these Ghouls for almost half a day.

"Oh, great," he groaned. "Fighting all those ghouls made me hungry. Should I eat my packet foods or stinky momos?"

Last time, I found some weird fruit that gave me strength. Maybe I should look for some other things too. Everything inside the ruins has been here for thousands of years. I might find something useful.

He looked around and spotted a patch of peculiar mushrooms growing near a crumbled pillar.

"System, appraisal!" Kent said, pointing dramatically at the mushrooms.

Name: Stinky Spirit Mushrooms

Description: Emits a foul odour when burned. It can cause nausea and emotional irritation to those nearby.

Kent’s eyes sparkled mischievously. "Stinky mushrooms, huh? I bet these could make things… interesting." 😏

He plucked a handful of mushrooms and set up a small campfire. As the flames licked at the mushrooms, an overpowering stench filled the air.

PHEW!

BLECH!

"Holy crap, that’s bad!" Kent said, covering his nose. "Even I wasn’t ready for this!"

The stench spread quickly, carried by the wind. Within minutes, distant voices echoed through the ruins.

"What is that smell?!"

"Ugh, I think I’m gonna puke!"

"Who’s burning something so gross?!?"

Kent chuckled, his shoulders shaking with laughter. "This is too easy!"

As the chaos unfolded, Kent climbed onto a nearby ledge to get a better view of the ruins. The fog had started to thin, revealing more of the battlefield.

He spotted groups of students and cultivators wandering aimlessly, clearly lost and overwhelmed.

"Looks like I’m not the only one having fun," Kent said, grinning.

Suddenly, the ground trembled again.

RUMBLE!

CRACK!

"What now?" Kent muttered, his grin fading.
