Chapter 203: Chapter 203: Could the Child Be Third Brother’s?

Renee Winslow got home before four o’clock; her child finishes school at half-past five.

She quickly freshened up, grabbed some pastries and fruits, and headed to Professor Young’s apartment downstairs.

Professor Young, fifty-eight this year, is retired and lives with her husband, Dr. Tierney, while their son works in Maridia.

When Renee went to Northcity, she entrusted her child to Professor Young.

Professor Young is very kind—a gentle and cultured lady who often helps to pick up her child.

Renee knocked on the door to Professor Young’s house.

Professor Young opened the door, noticed the items in Renee’s hands, and reproached her, "You shouldn’t have brought anything. Just come over. Next time, don’t do this."

Renee smiled and said, "It’s nothing valuable, just some specialty pastries from Northcity for you and Uncle Tierney to try."

Professor Young poured her a glass of water, "Leave Noah with me anytime, don’t worry about bothering me, and don’t feel any pressure."

She waved a hand, "Seriously, it’s no bother at all, honestly. I’m more than happy to help."

Renee smiled warmly, "You’ll be bothered by me more often in the future."

Professor Young took Renee’s hand affectionately, "I’d love that. Just last night I was telling Uncle Tierney that I’d like to make you my goddaughter, then Noah would be my grandson."

Renee sweetly replied, "He is your grandson."

Professor Young laughed heartily, giving Renee’s cheek a gentle pinch, "You’re such a delightful young lady. Pretty and charming—I wonder how Noah’s father..."

Before Professor Young could finish, Renee interrupted hastily, "Auntie, it’s getting late, I need to pick Noah up."

Professor Young stood up, "Let’s go together."

The kindergarten was a five-minute walk from Renee’s neighborhood.

Renee linked arms with Professor Young as they walked and chatted.

Professor Young said, "I genuinely like Noah and truly wish to have a little one around. It livens the home up."

Renee responded, "Once your son gets married and has children, your house will be lively."

Talking about her son stirred annoyance in Professor Young, "Mentioning him makes me mad. He’s thirty and doesn’t even have a girlfriend, all he’s bothered about is his stupid company."

Renee chuckled but didn’t comment further.

From Professor Young’s words, she detected not annoyance but pride and love.

Professor Young patted Renee’s hand, "These three years I’ve been retired, aside from the occasional square dancing at night, I’m idle at home during the day. Uncle Tierney hasn’t retired yet and can’t keep me company. Helping you with Noah is actually delightful for me."

Talking, they reached the kindergarten’s entrance.

There was already a long queue, divided into three lines for small classes, middle classes, and big classes.

Renee stood at the back of the middle-class line, with Professor Young beside her.

Professor Young, a great conversationalist, soon engaged people around her in a chat.

"Which class is your grandson in?" someone next to them asked.

Professor Young replied with a smile, "Middle class, class two."

The person said, "Mine too! What’s your grandson’s name?"

Professor Young answered, "Noah Sawyer."

-

"That child is named Noah Sawyer," Kyle Sheffield raised an eyebrow, looking meaningfully at Aiden Grant.

Everyone in the room turned their gaze to Aiden Grant.

Particularly Harvey Lancaster, whose eyes were as sharp as daggers.

Aiden Grant felt uneasy under their stares, "Why are you all looking at me? Just because he has ’Grant’ in his name doesn’t mean it’s related to me, right? I had no contact with her before she split from The Third Master."

Declan Donovan asked a critical question, "What about after the separation?"

Originally seated on the couch, Aiden Grant shot up upon hearing that.

"Buddy, don’t set me up!"

Harvey Lancaster stepped right up to Aiden Grant, looming threateningly.

Aiden Grant patted Harvey’s solid arm, "Calm down, have a seat first," then turned to Kyle Sheffield, "I’ll have someone investigate everything about her time abroad over the past five years, down to the last detail, okay?"

Kyle Sheffield lit a cigarette and nodded, "I’ll leave it to you then, Mr. Grant."

Left with no choice, Aiden Grant called someone to investigate Renee Winslow, making a point to say, "Don’t let The Third Master know it was me."

But that warning was somewhat redundant.

Once he investigated, it would be impossible to conceal from Jack Yates.

Initially, when Kyle Sheffield and Declan Donovan approached him to investigate Renee, Aiden refused.

In their circle, it was widely known that for the past five years, Renee Winslow’s name had become taboo for Jack. Not to be mentioned.

A few summers ago at a gathering, Bay Area Veridian Bank’s Second Young Master inadvertently brought a web celebrity who bore a resemblance to Renee.

Everyone instinctively looked at the woman.

Seeing Jack focus on her for a few seconds, the Second Young Master believed Jack was interested and pushed her towards him, jesting, "Show your best skills to serve Third Master Yates."

Jack pressed his lit cigarette onto the Second Young Master’s shoulder, saying coldly, "Don’t ever bring a woman who looks like that again, or I’ll ruin you."

It was then that Aiden realized the depth of Jack’s feelings for Renee, love ingrained in his bones.

Because of his love, he wouldn’t permit even a woman bearing a slight resemblance to be demeaned as a mere plaything.

After the party, on the terrace, Aiden overheard Kyle asking Jack, "If you still love her so much, why not find her in Alchester?"

Jack replied, "I promised her freedom."

Kyle suggested, "Perhaps I can check if she’s still single, and if she is..."

Jack interrupted coldly, "No one is allowed to investigate her."

Whether Kyle and the others secretly investigated Renee, Aiden was unsure. But Jack never requested Aiden to investigate her during those five years.

Moreover, Jack hadn’t been to Alchester since then.

So when Kyle and Declan suddenly approached Aiden at his office to probe into Renee, he declined without a second thought.

Aiden feared confronting Jack’s wishes about it.

Unbeknownst to him, those cunning bastards set him up, inviting him to Prospect Hill tonight to play this game.

If he didn’t investigate, they’d act as if the child was his, forcing his hand.

Details of the investigation came back swiftly, Aiden reviewed them briefly, sending the findings to Kyle with another note, "Make sure not to mention I was involved."

"The child’s mother is named Rowan Sawyer," Kyle said, knitting his brows.

Again, the people in the room turned to Aiden.

Frustrated, Aiden said, "Don’t look at me like that. Firstly, I really have no dealings with Renee; even before her split from The Third Master, we never spoke privately. Once they separated, I haven’t seen her.

As for this woman named Rowan Sawyer, the findings show she gave birth to Noah Sawyer, then fell ill and left the child to Renee before she passed."

Declan speculated, "Renee Winslow, Rowan Sawyer—the names are just reversed. Coincidence? Or is the child actually Renee’s?"

Frederick Yates recalled an event from five years ago, exclaiming, "Could the child be my Third Brother’s?"
