My Life as a Farm Owner in a Thriller World-Chapter 114: Yucai Middle School 15
"So soon?" Wan Qian's eyes widened, curiosity piqued. "What position?"
The butler clasped his hands and lightly tapped them together. From the shadows of a nearby tree, a girl slowly emerged.
She was so dark that she was nearly invisible while in the shade. Standing in the sunlight, however, she became noticeable.
The girl was slender and frail, her skin an unreflective, matte black. No matter the light, it seemed to bounce off her skin without reflection.
What was even more terrifying was that she had a face without eyes. Where her eyes should have been, only smooth, flat skin remained—no sockets, nothing.
Wan Qian's gaze fell on the uniform the girl wore. She lingered for a moment, her expression turning pained, as though she couldn't bear to look.
She turned to look at the ever-smiling butler. After hesitating, she finally asked: "This outfit... you picked it for her?"
The poor girl no longer had to wear that filthy, tattered dress. But was it really necessary to dress her in a maid uniform? What kind of twisted taste was this?
Indeed, the eyeless girl standing before Wan Qian wore a black-and-white maid uniform. Even her long hair, which dragged along the ground, had been tied up with a lace headband.
At first glance, aside from her black skin and lack of eyes, she resembled a typical anime-style maid.
The butler paused, seemingly puzzled by Wan Qian's reaction.
"Is something wrong? Or do you dislike this style?"
Wan Qian's eyes lingered on the butler for a moment. Surveying his manga-esque tailcoat and white gloves, she thought: alright, got it.
Despite his age, the butler was still very much into "chūnibyō" aesthetics.
So this... is what you people call "anime aesthetics"?
"Forget it, it's nothing," Wan Qian waved her hand, unwilling to comment further.
The butler's brow furrowed slightly; he sensed Wan Qian was dissatisfied with his taste.
But—he turned his head, carefully sizing up the eyeless girl—there was nothing wrong at all. The outfit fit perfectly and looked elegant.
He said to Wan Qian: "If you have any concerns, you may raise them at any time. After all, starting today, Miss Xue Tong will be your personal secretary."
Only then did Wan Qian learn that this poor girl's name was Xue Tong. Wait—!
"She... is going to be my secretary?" Wan Qian pointed at Xue Tong, utterly incredulous. Either she had misheard, or the butler had misspoken.
Yet the butler simply smiled and said, "Yes, Ms. Wan."
Wan Qian: "..." No way, right? Having Xue Tong as her secretary—would Xue Tong be taking care of her, or would she end up taking care of Xue Tong?!
The butler told Wan Qian: "Since you personally hired her, I trust you must have full confidence in her abilities. I also believe she can fulfill this role."
Wan Qian: "...Fine."
Meanwhile, in the restroom of the teachers' office building. The two unlucky students finally stirred back to consciousness once again.
Yang Fan lay sprawled on the cold bathroom floor. His eyes opened wide, staring blankly for a long while before he finally recalled where he was.
How long had he been lying here? Yang Fan had lost all sense of time. What puzzled him most was—why was he still alive?
Weren't there countless forum posts about Yucai Middle School all saying the teachers' office restroom was a forbidden place?
So why, up until now, did it seem like he hadn't encountered any real danger?
No—that wasn't right. He must have encountered something.
Frowning, Yang Fan tried hard to remember, but it was as if his brain had switched on some kind of self-protection mechanism. No matter how he tried, he couldn't recall what exactly had happened before he lost consciousness.
Since he couldn't remember, Yang Fan simply gave up on trying.
Suddenly, he remembered that he wasn't alone—there had been another person pushed into the restroom along with him by the Dean of Students.
Yang Fan quickly reached out, feeling for He Fei's body.
Thankfully, it was still warm. Realizing He Fei was also alive, Yang Fan hurried to shake him awake.
Time might have slipped by—who knew how much—but at least the two of them were alive and unharmed.
So Yang Fan grabbed He Fei, and together they fumbled toward the bathroom door.
The darkness around them was oppressive, but by now, both of them had grown accustomed to it. It didn't take long before their hands found the door lock.
Yang Fan twisted it tentatively. To his shock, it turned easily, and the restroom door opened without resistance.
When the white light from the corridor spilled in, Yang Fan could hardly believe his eyes. Could it really be this easy... to walk out of the restroom?
Even after he mustered the courage to pull He Fei out with him, that surreal feeling of having narrowly escaped death clung to him, refusing to fade.
"Clack! Clack! Clack!" The sharp rhythm of high heels echoed down the stairs.
"You two—?"
Coming down from the staircase, Zhang Minglan suddenly came face-to-face with Yang Fan and He Fei standing in the corridor. She froze, eyes wide, filled with disbelief.
Yesterday, after pushing the two students into the restroom, Zhang Minglan had waited outside for a while. When nothing happened inside, she assumed they were already dead.
Yet here they were, alive and well, standing right in front of her.
So... all of Ms. Wan's hints yesterday were true. That thing inside—the one even the principal couldn't deal with—had really been taken care of by her.
Zhang Minglan's heart swelled with mixed feelings. The joy was that Ms. Wan's power was truly formidable. The worry was... that Ms. Wan's power was a little too formidable.
"You two, get back to class," Zhang Minglan told Yang Fan and He Fei. Without sparing them another glance, she turned and walked down the stairs toward the school gates.
The school's rules didn't only restrict students; they bound the staff and teachers as well.
By those rules, Zhang Minglan had already punished the two yesterday. Unless they made another mistake, she could do nothing more to them.
Yang Fan knew this clearly. He pulled He Fei along and rushed back to their classroom.
Only once they returned did Yang Fan realize—they had actually spent the entire night in that restroom.
When Yun Jin, who had assumed Yang Fan and He Fei were already dead, suddenly saw them return, her first reaction wasn't joy but fear.
She couldn't even be sure anymore—were these two still the same Yang Fan and He Fei who had entered the campus with her?
