My Horny Stepmom Turns Me into Her Vampire Slave-Chapter 52: Dawn of the darkest day (2)
Bronx, 7:50 a.m.
"Take... this!"
Zaira hurls a purple sphere of energy. It hits a primordial vampire straight in the head and makes it explode.
"G-Guys... now you have to tell me what the fuck is going on! What the fuck are those monsters? And more importantly... what the fuck are you?!" Officer Henry Tomson exclaims, momentarily safe behind them.
"I don’t think this is the best time for explanations, Officer Tomson!" Chris replies, cutting off one of those creatures’ heads with a clean strike of his blood katana.
Mia is just as relentless, cutting down heads one after another.
The carcasses of the primordial vampires pile up, but no matter how many they kill, they never seem to run out.
Henry tries to help as best he can.
It was pure luck that earlier a single shot to the head was enough to take down the primordial vampire about to attack him.
Normally, a simple bullet wouldn’t pierce their thick skull, but fortunately for him, that one was far more fragile than average.
Even if he can’t take them down, his nonstop gunfire slows them just enough for the others to land the killing blow.
"S-Shit... this isn’t getting us anywhere! The more we kill, the more show up! We’re just wasting energy — we need to find a way out of here!" Zaira snarls.
Turning and running would be the quickest solution, but it would expose them to attacks from behind — and, more importantly, leave Officer Tomson at the mercy of the primordial vampires. Both are risks they’d rather avoid.
Mia is the one who takes the initiative.
"I’ll make you an escape route!"
"Absolutely not! If someone has to sacrifice themselves so you can escape, it’s me!" Chris cuts in.
But as he says it, the Tear of Azkarith flares up, and a vortex of pink flames engulfs Mia.
She gives Chris a cold, confident look, with that grin that terrifies him.
"Sacrifice myself? Please. I have no intention of it. I’ll slaughter these filthy beasts, then catch up with you."
Faced with her icy eyes and that sinister, commanding tone, Chris and Zaira have no choice but to obey.
Chris hoists Officer Tomson onto his shoulders and, with Zaira, retraces the alley back to the main road.
Now Mia stands alone before an endless horde. They climb over the pile of corpses — the only thing standing between them and her.
She immediately uses the Destruction Dragon Eyes. But her incinerating gaze doesn’t target the primordial vampires about to attack her — it focuses on the mass of decapitated carcasses.
They ignite instantly like a pyre, and a tall wall of fire rises from them. Those trying to climb over it are reduced to ash, while the ones behind recoil at the sight of the flames blocking their path.
Mia immediately shuts off her divine artifact. She has no idea how long this will last, or how long her body can hold out before collapsing. So she intends to ration that power — as destructive as it is draining — as much as possible.
When Mia reaches her companions on the second floor of an abandoned building, the main road below is in ruins like never before. It looks like something straight out of a horror movie.
The explosions have almost stopped, and so have the deafening sirens, aside from a few in the distance.
The sea of people that once flooded the street is gone. Only a few hundred remain — the ones rescuers couldn’t save.
They run aimlessly, screaming and crying as they search for shelter. Completely on their own, destined to become prey for the primordial vampires.
"Officer Tomson, what exactly did your superiors tell you?" Chris asks.
"T-They told me... a large-scale terrorist attack by a foreign country was underway. They ordered me to get as many people as possible into bomb shelters — that’s it! They never mentioned those terrifying monsters! Guys, I saw you do things I’ve never even seen in the comics I read as a kid. And you clearly know those things and their weak points. I want answers — now!"
Mia is the one who answers.
"Officer, believe me without asking too many questions. There are other worlds besides this one, inhabited by creatures you think exist only in fantasy. I am one of them — a vampire. That boy is too, and she’s a demon. It may sound absurd, but it’s the truth."
"Believe me, girl, after what I’m seeing, nothing seems absurd anymore... but those — what kind of monsters are they?"
"Primordial vampires — you could call them distant ancestors of mine."
"S-So... is this terrorist attack their doing?!"
"No, those creatures are stupid and driven only by hunger. They could never plant explosives to blow up a city. Whoever is behind this isn’t a terrorist."
Beyond the window of the apartment they’ve taken refuge in, a terrible massacre unfolds.
Civilians are attacked one after another, like gazelles at the mercy of a pack of starving lions. The primordial vampires devour them ferociously, and once their hunger is satisfied, they keep hunting — but not to eat. They simply bite them and leave them on the ground.
A few minutes, they begin to writhe in inhuman spasms.
It’s the beginning of their transformation into primordial vampires, which ends about twenty minutes after the bite. The newly transformed, driven by blind hunger, join the frenzied hunt.
The horror unfolds under the terrified gaze of the four, still barricaded inside, trying to figure out what to do.
For now, their only plan is to stay hidden and wait, but they know they’ll have to leave soon.
There are almost no humans left in the streets, and the vampires are starting to swarm inside buildings.
Sooner or later they’ll be found — they know it. Staying too long would mean trapping themselves. 𝒇𝒓𝙚𝒆𝔀𝓮𝓫𝒏𝓸𝙫𝓮𝓵.𝓬𝙤𝙢
Suddenly, an idea flashes through Chris’s mind.
"Zaira, you’re the only one of us who can fly. Carry us somewhere safe!"
"What do you take me for? A plane? I can’t carry all three of you. I could take you one at a time, but as you saw on that island in Hawaii, stamina isn’t my strong suit!"
"Chris’s idea isn’t that stupid," Mia says. "You’ll fly over the city and look for a safe place. Once you find it, you’ll take us there one at a time. We don’t have any other options right now. Take Officer Tomson first."
Zaira gives a sly little smile.
"Oh, I see... you want to stay alone with Chris..."
"Zaira, this isn’t the time for jokes. Officer Tomson knows the city better than we do — he can point out a safe place. And if we’re attacked, Chris and I have better chances of surviving than one of us with him — no offense, officer."
"None taken..."
"Alright, I’ll do as you say."
Then Zaira throws open the window and grabs Henry, lifting him by the arms under his armpits.
"Hold tight, Officer Tomson. We’re taking off!"
