Chapter 99: Arrested

The tables turned. Benjamin thought he could ruin Caden’s name and people would side with him. But he didn’t expect his fake grandson to have the upper hand.

Alira’s heart continued to pound. It wasn’t because she was nervous. That feeling had been removed as soon as Gregory Allen stepped inside the room.

The silence in the room was deafening. Caden and the fake Benjamin Miller were staring at each other. The people inside were just watching and waiting for the two to exchange their statements.

Michael Cerro cleared his throat to break the silence.

He slightly smiled. "We’re glad Greg is alive. Since this is just a misunderstanding, we would like to apologize to everyone for causing trouble."

Caden laughed. "Apologize for a misunderstanding? Do you think making a public appearance will change everything? You’re all wanted criminals. Your move was so stupid and it made me think that you intentionally showed up to get arrested. And that’s what will happen today."

A team of policemen barged inside the room and stood behind Benjamin. He was still calmly staring at Caden.

"I honestly didn’t expect this. I underestimated you, my grandson. I guess, you’re more like me than Matthew and Chris."

Caden let out a sarcastic laugh. "I am not your grandson. You have no right to compare my real grandfathers to yourself."

Benjamin stared into Caden’s cold glare. "We are not blood related, but in the eyes of everyone, I am still your grandfather. I am still your mother’s father. She is still a Miller and so are you."

Then Benjamin stood up when two policemen approached him. He turned his gaze to Alira, and grinned, making her feel uncomfortable.

"Princess, do you believe that this is the end? You have no idea about the past. How can you change the future?" Benjamin chuckled. "I suggest you hold on to your title and your life because once I am behind bars, I will not stop dragging you down." He said before leaving the room.

Alira couldn’t say anything. She was confused. Benjamin’s anger turned toward her. But why? Her heart was beating loudly, but it calmed down when she felt Caden’s hand. It was warm and gentle.

Caden quickly stood up and to her surprise carried her like a princess.

"Hey. The camera." She whispered.

"Don’t mind them. I’m worried about you. You’re trembling, love." He said in a soft voice.

She didn’t realize the continuous shaking of her body. She was cold and felt so exhausted. Caden leaned his forehead against hers.

"You’re burning. You have a fever." He said.

The royal guards rushed into them, covering them from the reporters.

"What’s happening to the princess?" One of the reporters asked.

Caden nodded at Ed. "Just a slight fever. We apologize, but the Crown Prince and the Crown Princess have to leave. We will invite you again once Her Highness gets better."

Surrounded by their bodyguards, Caden strolled immediately out of the room. He was worried about Alira.

"I’ll take you home. Hang in there, my love." He said in a soft voice.

Hearing Caden’s gentle tone and feeling the warmth of his embrace, Alira felt safe and loved. Her vision was blurry and her body was burning.

It got nothing to do with the drink or the food. She was really not feeling well.

As soon as she leaned her head on Caden’s chest, she fell asleep. She still felt his movement and she could hear some distinct noises around her. She wanted to see the people inside the vehicle, but her eyes stayed shut.

"Your Highness, what’s your next plan with your grandfather?"

Alira could hear another man’s voice talking to Caden and it was unfamiliar to her. It wasn’t Ed or Rock. And it was not Elijah’s voice.

"The police took him for now, but I know he could still find a way to get out of jail. So maybe, I should just kill him." Caden chuckled.

She felt her heart pounded. Even though she knew that either Caden or Benjamin would die in the end, she was still scared. But she was more scared of knowing that Caden would kill his fake grandfather.

"Killing him would ruin your reputation. Even if you hire someone to do the job, everyone will point their fingers at you."

Caden took a deep breath. She felt his hand gently brushing her cheek.

"As long as Alira and everyone are safe, I don’t care what happens to me. I became what I am today to kill Jonathan and the Trekker Clan. I should have died three years ago. I lived because of an unfinished business."

She frowned. What was he talking about? He was alive because he wanted to live and built a family with her. Why would he say something as if he would leave her after everything was over?

She wanted to shout and get mad at Caden, but she was too dizzy. She wasn’t even sure if what she was hearing was real or if it was just because of the fever.

Her body felt so exhausted and she couldn’t stop herself from falling into a deep sleep. She flinched when she heard Caden and the other guy again.

"Do you think it will end once he’s dead?" The man asked.

Caden clicked his tongue. "No. He told my mother that it will end when he was no longer breathing, but that was a lie. Killing him would make everything worst."

"Then why do you want to do it? You already knew that something bad will happen after."

Caden sighed. "Because that would be the start of their downfall."

"Hmmm. You got a point. Then are you really going to kill him? I mean, will you pull the trigger or pierce his flesh?"

Then Caden laughed like a madman. "That would be too boring. Making him suffer and seeing him cry in pain is my dream. I would not let him die so easily."

Those were Caden’s last words before she finally let herself drown in exhaustion.
