My Demon Friends-Chapter 654 - 619 Dilemma
There's a saying in the circle: you'll never know how handsome you can be until you've worn a Flying Fish Robe.
Brother Nan had never seen such a handsome Zhou Li.
Similarly, when Brother Nan wore the Ming Dynasty Attire Hanfu, which exuded an innate scholarly lady charm, she radiated a gentle and graceful temperament, even when standing perfectly still and silent. Zhou Li had never seen such a warm and dignified Brother Nan; he found himself unable to look away.
Brother Nan sized him up and down, then blurted out, "Holy shit, no way! I want to wear what you're wearing!"
Zhou Li silently withdrew his gaze.
True to her word, Brother Nan immediately asked Hong Ran for a suitable Flying Fish Robe and hurried back to change.
Even dressed in the Ming Dynasty Attire, her spirit remained unrestrained and bold. She was no longer the sheltered lady who rarely stepped outside, but rather like the young mistress of a martial arts family from a wuxia novel, occasionally disguised as an ordinary girl. This attire was just a temporary measure. Beneath the gentle and charming clothes lay formidable martial arts skills and the heroic bearing of one who roams the pugilistic world, sword in hand.
Hong Ran watched, covering her mouth and giggling lightly.
After her laughter subsided, she turned to Zhou Li. She looked him over, tucked her short staff into her belt, and walked over to him. As she straightened his clothes, she said tenderly,
"Don't tie the belt so tight; a little looser is better."
"Make sure your hat is on straight."
"Very dashing!"
Zhou Li slightly turned his head, using the full-length mirror beside him to examine his current look.
On his way here, he had seen many men wearing Flying Fish Robes, but his outfit was different from what most of them wore.
Many people outside were wearing Flying Fish Robes, but with the Wing Good Crown on their heads. They probably just thought it looked good without giving it much thought, or perhaps they were simply following the trend without understanding. In the Ming Dynasty, the Wing Good Crown was primarily worn by the Royal Family and Princes. Zhou Li, however, wore a black hat with golden decorations on top and three peacock tail feathers.
His belt, featuring a design with two prominent ornamental sections, was also inlaid with Gold Nuggets. Each Gold Nugget bore an exquisite relief carving, distinguishing it from the belts many enthusiasts wore.
He wasn't wearing an Arm Guard. While this seemed to diminish some of his heroic air, it made the outfit look more coordinated.
Brother Nan emerged then. She strode forward, turning her head as she walked to observe herself in the full-length mirror, adjusting her posture to appear more imposing. A medium-sized cat, the Little Trash Cat, followed closely at her heels, looking up at her as it walked.
Zhou Li was dumbstruck again—
Why did Brother Nan seem even more handsome than him?
This outfit was meant for men, and Brother Nan was supposed to be slightly less good-looking than he was!
Zhou Li was very reluctant to acknowledge this fact.
Hong Ran, however, gave her evaluation quite frankly, "She looks good. A bit better than Zhou Li, even."
Brother Nan commented, "It feels like something is missing."
"Here," Hong Ran said.
Hong Ran, from somewhere, produced two Embroidered Spring Knives. She held them balanced on one snow-white hand. Her palm seemed slightly strained by their weight, but the knives remained steady, not falling.
"Now it's perfect!" Brother Nan exclaimed.
Brother Nan was the first to take a knife and began examining it.
The knife was heavy. Its sheath was made of fine wood, delicately crafted with beautiful carvings. The blade itself had a graceful curve, resembling a goose quill.
A soft scraping sound was heard.
Brother Nan gripped the handle and drew the knife. Staring at the gleaming silver blade and its edge, as thin as a cicada's wing, she froze for a moment. Then, she quickly sheathed it, glanced around to make sure no one had noticed, and only then did she visibly calm down. "Is this thing real?" she asked in a low voice.
"No one will know if you don't draw it," Hong Ran said with a nod. "Remember to return them to me afterward; they're from my collection."
"Got it..."
"Let's go."
They then re-entered the main venue, following Hong Ran as they wandered around, admiring the various costumes.
When Hong Ran saw clothes she liked, she would make a note of them. If she saw something she liked but felt didn't suit her style, she would quietly ask Zhou Li and Brother Nan if they were interested in them.
When Hong Ran walked alone, no one bothered her. But once Zhou Li and Brother Nan joined her, accompanied by the exceptionally charming Little Trash Cat, people gradually began to approach them. Some were impressed by the craftsmanship of their outfits and wanted to know their origin. Others wished to take their photos, while some simply wanted their contact information. Even refusals took up a considerable amount of time.
Hong Ran didn't seem to mind. Instead, she teased them with a smile, "Quite the charmers, aren't you?"
Before Zhou Li could reply, Huai Xu's voice came from behind them, "This outfit is indeed good-looking. If I had known, I would have worn this too... Oh, but then again, if I did, you two would be completely overshadowed by me."
Zhou Li turned his head at the sound of the voice.
An Old monster clad in Armor, chin slightly lifted, walked over.
He sighed, then continued as if he couldn't stop talking, "I was so busy over there just now; at least a whole crowd of people took photos of me. I might even get famous tomorrow..."
Zhou Li looked away, not wanting to say a single word.
Once the Old monster got closer, he sized up Zhou Li and Brother Nan, then gave an evaluation similar to Hong Ran's: "Still, Brother Nan looks a bit more dashing."
Zhou Li retorted, "You lack aesthetic sense."
Brother Nan looked at him, puzzled.
Zhou Li fell silent.
Only then did the Old monster grin and say, "See? That's what you're missing. Such a waste of your good looks..."
Zhou Li remained speechless.
Soon, Baozi and Cotton Swab also noticed them and froze in surprise.
Mianmian vigorously rubbed her eyes.
Qian Qian practically swooned.
Baozi, however, quickly raised the camera Brother Nan had returned to her before changing. She swiftly adjusted the settings and framed her shot, determined not to miss this business opportunity.
Brother Nan cooperated by holding the Embroidered Spring Knife to her chest and striking a pose.
