My Demon Friends-Chapter 613 - 586: The Baozi is Blind and Deaf
In the afternoon, there was an English class.
Having to study English in college is indeed a headache.
The wine-red curtains blocked the glaring sunlight from outside, making the classroom somewhat dim and the projection screen at the front very clear. The middle-aged male teacher's deep voice, amplified by the speakers, beat against eardrums like a drum, yet some students still slept soundly.
Zhou Li sat next to Brother Nan, idly playing with his phone.
Tuanzi, having slept enough, crawled around under the desk, from Zhou Li's legs to Brother Nan's, glanced up at Baozi nearby, then turned and crawled back.
Yes, Baozi was also sitting next to them.
Perhaps her cousin's behavior earlier that day had made her feel closer to them. Or maybe she wanted to admire Lord Dumpling, or perhaps she hoped to have dinner with them again that evening. In any case, Baozi didn't sit at the front that afternoon and had joined them again.
Brother Nan wasn't sleeping; she was also playing with her phone.
She was wearing long pants today but, apparently finding them too hot, had pulled one pant leg up to her knee. It looked as if she were either deliberately showing off her long legs or preparing to transplant rice seedlings in a paddy field. With a peripheral glance, Zhou Li could see her snow-white calf, its curve slender and beautiful, still somewhat dazzling even in the dim room.
Zhou Li leaned over to look at her phone.
Brother Nan was currently looking at motorcycles.
That's right; with such a sleep-inducing English class and drowsy afternoon, only these things could keep her awake.
Zhou Li himself couldn't manage it.
Brother Nan had also rolled up her jacket sleeves. Her bent arms created a small, soft mound of flesh at the crook, which served nicely as a pillow. Zhou Li leaned in and rested his chin there, staring unblinkingly at her phone.
He had assumed Brother Nan would be into street bikes or sport bikes; in his view, street punks tended to prefer riding those types.
Brother Nan was a street punk.
This was entirely the bad impression left on him by those delinquent, scooter-riding youths of Yan City.
But unexpectedly, Brother Nan was looking at vintage bikes.
What did this tell him? It told him that not all street punks necessarily liked street bikes or sport bikes.
"Tsk..."
Hearing him click his tongue, Brother Nan looked down, her expression puzzled. Then, she suddenly lifted her elbow, jolting Zhou Li so hard his teeth clattered with a sound even Tuanzi could hear.
"Do you have any brilliant insights?"
"No..." Zhou Li instantly backed down. "I just think this bike looks really nice. Brother Nan, you have great taste."
"Naturally!"
Brother Nan nodded, pleased, and put her hand back on the desk.
Zhou Li continued to rest his chin there; it was much more comfortable than the hard desktop.
Brother Nan tacitly accepted his behavior, only lowering her head to whisper, "I was originally planning to buy the Chu Liuxiang, but after looking around, I still prefer this one. But this one won't be on the market until the end of the month, and I don't know if I'll wait."
"You could ask your stepfather for help."
"How can I trouble the old man with everything?" Brother Nan frowned. "I'd become a discarded piece if I did that."
"Oh, what's the engine displacement?"
"The Chu Liuxiang is 700cc, this one is 500cc. Too small is no fun."
"True desire is priceless."
"Wow! Well said!"
That remark really struck a chord with Brother Nan. Delighted, she impulsively lowered her head and gave Zhou Li a playful bite on the forehead.
Tuanzi watched, stunned.
Baozi subtly averted her gaze.
Zhou Li silently raised his head, wiping the saliva from his forehead as he glanced around.
Fortunately, they were in the last row with no one to their left or right, and the multimedia classroom seats had high front barriers. Fortunately, Baozi was turned away, looking at the scenery. The only other witness was a kitten obsessed with parkour.
Brother Nan covered her mouth and giggled happily, seeming to enjoy Zhou Li's embarrassment all the more.
TEE-HEE-HEE...
Zhou Li silently lowered his head again, continuing to watch her browse motorcycles, from official websites to Douyin, from specifications to reviews.
Brother Nan had saved up quite a bit of money over the past year or so. The on-the-road price she'd mentioned earlier for the Chu Liuxiang was already nearly equivalent to the total cost of their used car. The bike she had finally chosen for its looks probably wouldn't be much cheaper either. For a student, it was indeed a large sum of money.
Watching her, he soon grew bored and started poking Brother Nan's leg, right on the exposed upper part of her knee.
The girl's skin was delicate and soft. It dimpled slightly with a gentle press of his fingers, conveying a smooth, cool sensation. When he retracted his hand, her skin bounced back, showing excellent elasticity.
"..."
Noticing Brother Nan's gaze, he casually withdrew his hand and sat up straight, facing the podium.
"If you want to touch it, just touch it," Brother Nan said, her tone a mix of exasperation and encouragement.
Zhou Li remained composed. He simply reached out and helped her pull her pant leg down. Once past the knee, it fell naturally, completely covering her calf.
Then he continued to watch the podium.
Just then, his phone vibrated.
As he reached for his phone, Zhou Li quickly glanced at his Little Cousin out of the corner of his eye. She was focused intently on the podium, pen in hand, with a line of freshly written English sentences, the ink still wet, on her notebook. He quietly breathed a sigh of relief.
The message was a video from Yin Le.
Zhou Li pressed the volume keys a few times to ensure his phone was on silent, then adjusted it to the lowest setting before opening the video.
Hopefully, there wouldn't be any moaning sounds, right?
Just yesterday, Mianmian had tricked him, and he'd even told Brother Nan about it, intending for Brother Nan to give Mianmian a thrashing. But it had backfired.
The video Yin Le sent had a thumbnail of a small child. When he played it, the camera started shaking, gradually revealing most of Yin Le's face and a child dressed up like a little princess. It was clear Yin Le was holding the child with one arm and filming with his phone in the other.
It must be a little girl.
He heard Yin Le say, "So pretty, and so well-behaved, not noisy or fussy at all. When she grows up..."
He didn't finish his sentence, seeming to be talking to someone else.
It sounded like he was complimenting a child in front of their parents.
Hmm?
Zhou Li thought about it but couldn't figure it out, so he started typing:
Zhou Li: Your sister?
Yin Le: Guess again.
Zhou Li: Your daughter?
Yin Le: ...
Zhou Li: So who is it?
Yin Le: Mr. Jiang's daughter.
Zhou Li: Ah, I remember now.
Zhou Li: But how come you're...?
Yin Le: I went to Yi Province to handle a tricky case. It was in Jin Palace, so I dropped by to see Mr. Jiang and maintain our connection.
Zhou Li: The little girl is a Heavenly Master, right?
Yin Le: Yes.
Yin Le: I've tested her already.
Zhou Li: I see.
Yin Le: It's a pity she's so young. Her talent is definitely top-notch.
Zhou Li recalled meeting Mr. Jiang during the Lunar New Year last year. At that time, Mr. Jiang had mentioned having a daughter who was only six months old. Now she would be one and a half, about the age of the child in the video. It seemed this little girl's childhood would likely be much more delightful than theirs had been.
Then, Yin Le started talking about the case he was handling in Yi Province.
It was another one of those cases: demons and humans making secret pacts. The demons would absorb human vitality while also controlling them through these evil agreements. Once you started down that path, it was very difficult to turn back. You couldn't make an evil deal with a demon and then just go back to being a good person as if nothing happened.
Even if you could, the demons wouldn't allow it.
Situations like this were probably more common than they imagined. They were incredibly hard to detect, and even when discovered, it wasn't easy to secure a heavy punishment for the demon involved. Generally, such demons were very cautious; they would never kill and knew when to stop. At most, if caught, they'd only be detained for a while. 𝓯𝙧𝙚𝒆𝙬𝙚𝒃𝙣𝙤𝒗𝓮𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢
Now that the Celestial Master Department existed, such cases would hardly ever fall into Zhou Li's hands.
All Zhou Li could say to Yin Le was: "Let me know if you need my help with anything."
Then he reminded him to try the mutton soup in Heroes Province.
