My College Teacher is My Children's Mom-Chapter 728: One thing overcomes another
Da Bao took Cai Xia home.
Cai Xia’s mother invited him in for a drink of water, and Da Bao did not refuse.
As soon as he left, Cai Xia presented the gift Zhang Yuxi had given her as if showing off a treasure, as happy as a child. "Mom, look! This is the welcome gift Ah Ping’s mom gave me!"
Puzzled, Cai Xia’s mother asked, "Don’t you already have this book? Is it really worth being this excited?" Although she didn’t understand, she was infected by her daughter’s laughter and couldn’t help but laugh as well.
Cai Xia flipped to the title page. "See? The author’s autograph! An actual autograph!"
Her mother’s eyes lit up, and she smiled. "That is a nice gift, indeed. I’m glad you like it."
Cai Xia admired it for a long while before her mother pulled her over to ask how the visit went.
"Mom, actually, Ah Ping’s mom is a year older than you, but she looks so much younger."
Hearing this, Cai Xia’s mother was not pleased. "How is she younger?"
Cai Xia replied earnestly, "She looks like she’s only about thirty, and her skin is so well-maintained. And Ah Ping’s dad looks super young too, even more handsome than in photos and videos."
Cai Xia’s mother sighed. "Anything else? Doesn’t he have three younger siblings? Did you meet all of them?"
Being in Jingcheng, Cai Xia’s mother could learn about Fourth Brother’s character through many channels. As for the Second Sister, it went without saying; the Qin Family was respectable, and their children were outstanding. The girl they had their eyes on must be excellent. Not only that, but she had also discreetly inquired about the Third Sister. Everyone spoke very highly of them.
Men fear choosing the wrong profession; women fear marrying the wrong man. She wanted her daughter to marry well and have a happy future, so as a parent, she had to be vigilant.
"They’re all very nice," Cai Xia recalled, "in terms of personality and everything else."
Cai Xia’s mother smiled faintly. "If you and Ah Ping end up together, our family will be related to the Qin Family."
Cai Xia smiled back. Her first impression of Da Bao’s family was very good; they seemed quite genuine.
Da Bao’s plan was to arrange a meeting between their parents after their relationship had progressed a bit further. Da Bao and Cai Xia were both private people who led low-profile lives. Consequently, they didn’t announce their relationship with great fanfare. Their social circle already knew about it unofficially, but now it was confirmed.
When the news reached the Qin Family, Mrs. Qin remarked with sentiment, "Perhaps we’ll become relatives with the Cai Family in the future."
Mr. Qin laughed. "The Cai Family is quite good, and their daughter is their pride. Not bad at all." To put it one way, if Da Bao’s girlfriend had come from an unremarkable family in Jingcheng, they would have been quite worried.
"So it seems that only their Fourth Brother is still single."
"Our future in-law half-jokingly asked if I knew any suitable girls for their Fourth Brother and if I could make an introduction. Do you think she was being serious, or was she just joking?"
Faced with his wife’s barrage of questions, Mr. Qin was helpless. "You’re asking me? Who am I supposed to ask?"
Mrs. Qin glared at him. "Forget it. It’s pointless to ask you."
Now that the matter of meeting their future daughter-in-law was settled, the family could go back to their own busy lives. Fourth Brother returned to work, and the others went back to Yangcheng.
Third Sister mentioned to Shao Yang over the phone that Da Bao was in a relationship and that the girl had already met his parents.
To Shao Yang, this news was a bolt from the blue. He and Third Sister had been the first to make their relationship public, yet he never expected Second Sister and Da Bao to get ahead of them. Shao Yang felt his own progress was terribly slow and decided he had to do something.
Tentatively, he asked, "Should we also meet each other’s parents?" He was mainly thinking of his side.
Third Sister said nothing, knowing the implications of such a meeting.
Shao Yang fell silent for a moment, not wanting to put her in a difficult position. "It’s okay, no rush. Just think about it."
"I’ll think about it," Third Sister murmured.
Shao Yang’s disappointment was obvious on the other end of the line, and he quickly changed the subject.
The question plunged Third Sister into confusion. She had a strong sense of belonging and was deeply attached to her home. If she married Shao Yang, she would have to settle abroad. Every trip back would mean a flight of over ten hours. This was one of the main reasons for her hesitation. She told herself she was still young and that she could deal with it later, but avoiding the issue wouldn’t solve it.
On the fifteenth, Lin Feng made glutinous rice balls at home. After today, the New Year celebrations would be officially over.
However, no one could have imagined that two unexpected guests would arrive that day. They showed up without any notice at all.
The visitors were Shao Yang’s parents. Shao Yang also went by the English name Job, which he had chosen for himself.
Lin Feng reacted swiftly, composing himself before pouring them some water. Shao Yang then explained his reason for being there, emphasizing that he had brought his parents over without consulting Third Sister first.
"They were here on business, and since they were in the country anyway, I thought they could stop by and pay you a visit."
"Oh," Lin Feng said, beginning to chat with them with a smile.
Shao Yang’s father was quite handsome and had a witty and humorous way of speaking, cracking jokes from time to time. He spoke of his son with great pride. He then mentioned Third Sister, saying he had seen her once before at a fashion show he had attended. Shao Yang’s father greatly admired and liked Third Sister and supported their relationship. He added that if Lin Feng had any objections, he hoped he would grant the young people the freedom to love.
Shao Yang’s mother was a well-preserved woman who, at first glance, seemed a bit difficult to get along with. After talking with her, however, it became clear she was actually very nice and didn’t interfere in her son’s love life. As long as the woman didn’t have a messy personal life or was only after their family’s money, she was supportive.
When the moment seemed right, Lin Feng got up to call Zhang Yuxi. Zhang Yuxi was busy and had been expecting to work overtime, but now it seemed she would need to come home early. Lin Feng then informed Second Sister, and finally, he called Third Sister.
Upon hearing the news, Third Sister became furious. "Dad, I’m on my way back."
Lin Feng tried to calm his daughter. "Don’t be angry. Just talk to Shao Yang after the meeting."
"I won’t be angry," Third Sister grunted. I’ll just beat him up later. Why get angry and make myself sick over it? It’s not worth it.
Second Sister’s company was on the same floor as Third Sister’s. Upon receiving the call, she dashed over. It was the first time she had ever seen Third Sister so furious.
"Third Sister, are you alright?"
Third Sister’s strikingly beautiful face was ashen. "I’m fine."
Second Sister glanced at the mess on the floor. This is what you call ’fine’?
The one they feared most was Da Bao, perhaps due to his natural authority as the eldest. But every man meets his match, and Da Bao and the others were most afraid of an angry Third Sister. Whenever Third Sister got angry, not even Zhang Yuxi could do anything. Only Lin Feng could handle her.
"Um, can we talk?"
"Second Sister, I’m angry right now. I don’t want to talk. Give me ten minutes."
"...Oh, okay."
