My College Teacher is My Children's Mom-Chapter 729 Something’s Off with the Three Treasures
「Ten minutes later.」
Sanbao sat expressionlessly in Erbao’s car.
"Is it because Shao Yang brought his parents over without your permission?" Erbao asked.
Sanbao didn’t make a sound. She herself didn’t think it was a big deal, but she couldn’t figure out why she was angry. Perhaps it was because Shao Yang was indirectly pressuring her into marriage this way. This wasn’t what she wanted.
Having lived together for so many years, Erbao didn’t fully understand what Sanbao was thinking, but she could guess a thing or two. "I mean, you and Shao Yang have been together for over two years now. It’s normal for both families to meet."
"Besides, his parents are here on a work trip and just took the opportunity to visit us. That’s not so strange, right?"
"What is it? Do you not see a future with Shao Yang? Is it that you don’t like him, or...?"
Sanbao looked out the window. "Erbao, I can be with him, but I don’t want to live abroad. I want to live at home."
Erbao burst out laughing, leaning on the steering wheel to look at her. "Sanbao, I know you’re a homebody, but a girl has to grow up eventually."
Sanbao could be indestructible out in the world, but at home, she wanted to be a person surrounded by warmth.
"Let’s go home."
As she drove, Erbao said, "No matter what you decide, our family will support you. Even if you want to live at home for the rest of your life, Mom and Dad would agree."
Sanbao had always been special, even as a child. Even her siblings knew she was different. This was possibly because Sanbao had been frail since birth, so their parents gave her a great deal of attention. Although she got healthier as she grew up, her constitution was still far from being as robust as theirs. And since Sanbao had always been so well-behaved and sensible, who wouldn’t want to spoil a child like that a little more?
When they returned, the whole family was there. Sanbao’s expression was normal; she seemed fine. Only Erbao shot the family a look, signaling that her sister was in a bad mood.
Shao Yang stood up to explain himself to Sanbao.
She simply said, "I know."
Sanbao didn’t believe his explanation; his ulterior motives were obvious.
Lin Feng hadn’t gone out to eat, instead using the ingredients on hand to cook a Western-style meal. The enticing aroma attracted Shao Yang’s parents, who came over to watch.
"I heard you’re an amazing cook!"
"It smells delicious! A man who can cook is truly fantastic."
Zhang Yuxi, now a practiced hostess, entertained the guests with ease, smiling as she set the table.
Shao Yang seized the opportunity to apologize to Sanbao.
Sanbao gave a faint smile. "This isn’t your problem; it’s mine."
Language is a profound art. Shao Yang didn’t understand Sanbao’s exact meaning, but his comprehension was excellent. "Are you breaking up with me?"
Sanbao was taken aback. "Break up?"
She had been angry enough to consider it earlier, but after calming down, she felt it wasn’t necessary. He was her first love, and with no other relationships to compare him to, she couldn’t really gauge their compatibility. She thought over Shao Yang’s pros and cons. Aside from being a foreigner, she couldn’t find any real faults. In many ways, their personalities were complementary, and they always had something to talk about.
Seeing her expression, Shao Yang knew he had misunderstood. "Then what’s the problem?"
Sanbao decided it was time to have a serious talk with him.
During the Western dinner, Shao Yang’s parents couldn’t stop praising Lin Feng’s culinary skills, saying they hoped for another chance to eat his cooking. When they left, the couple gave Zhang Yuxi a generous meeting gift: a 20-carat pink diamond of very clean quality.
Similarly, they had also prepared gifts for everyone else, including Xiaobao. Dabao received a pen from a luxury brand worth over three thousand. Erbao got an exquisitely beautiful necklace with her name engraved on it. Sanbao was given a violin from a brand Lin Feng’s family knew well, which retailed for several hundred thousand. Sibao was gifted a pair of sneakers with the autograph of a certain basketball star he greatly admired. Xiaobao got an authentic princess dress from an animated film that was both exquisite and lavish.
After receiving these gifts, Lin Feng and Zhang Yuxi couldn’t help but feel that their family was far too frugal in comparison. It wasn’t exactly frugality, though; the children were all grown up and didn’t need much money spent on them. The youngest was easy to raise, had no bad habits, and could even earn her own money. Therefore, their family’s circumstances were only slightly better than average.
Shao Yang’s parents had arrived suddenly, and they left just as swiftly. They both had their own careers to manage, speaking as if they had projects worth tens of billions waiting for them. Shao Yang’s explanation was that his parents were workaholics. True workaholics who, in a 365-day year, were busy for 366 of them.
At noon, Lin Feng took Xiaobao for a nap, while Zhang Yuxi went back to work overtime. She had expected to spend the evening with Shao Yang’s parents, but they had vanished like a gust of wind.
Erbao packed her bag. "I have a meeting this afternoon, so I have to get going."
As she headed upstairs, Xiaobao said, "Dad, I can go to sleep by myself."
"Oh," Lin Feng replied. "I know. I was just saying."
Clearly, they were all giving Sanbao and Shao Yang some private space.
The weather outside was beautiful, so the two of them sat outdoors. Sanbao told him that if they were to marry in the future, she would stay in Yangcheng long-term. There was no way she would move abroad with him.
"Think about it. If you can accept that, we can continue our relationship," she said. "If you can’t, then we should break up."
Shao Yang asked, "Why are you only saying this now?"
Sanbao sighed. "I thought I could do it, but I’ve realized I can’t..."
Other than studying and taking business trips abroad, she had always lived in her home country. Back then, with her older siblings around, she thought marrying someone and moving overseas would be manageable. But now, with Dabao, Sibao, and probably even Erbao likely to settle down in Jingcheng, the thought of leaving her parents and her home was unbearable.
Shao Yang said he understood.
Sanbao gave him time to think.
After the New Year, Lin Feng started to notice something was off with Sanbao, even though she seemed the same as usual. At first, he thought there was a problem with her studio, but he learned from Erbao that Sanbao had recently landed a major commercial performance. After further observation, Lin Feng realized it was probably related to relationship troubles.
His children were all grown up now, and Lin Feng had always allowed them the freedom to date as they pleased. In his heart, he knew his children’s knowledge and talents surpassed his own. Today’s society was different from twenty years ago; times change, and he had no desire to interfere in his children’s love lives. However, seeing one of his children unhappy, Lin Feng felt it was necessary to talk with Sanbao.
He broached the topic indirectly with Erbao. Erbao was also quite worried about Sanbao. They were the only girls among the four older siblings, but with completely different personalities, Erbao didn’t know how to help.
They considered talking to their mother, Zhang Yuxi, but in their view, it was better to ask their father for help. Dad was an omnipotent superman!
So, Erbao told Lin Feng everything she knew, down to the last detail.
